At that moment, Cheng Zhengxiong, Li Wei, and Su Mei had already reached the wreckage of the helicopter.
Su Mei, still shaken, clung tightly to Cheng Zhengxiong's arm. It was more accurate to say that he was supporting her rather than the other way around.
Cheng Zhengxiong looked at Zhao Jun, who was rummaging through the helicopter's interior, and excitedly shouted, "Teacher Zhao, you really did it! I can't believe you actually brought down the helicopter. Seeing how you fought earlier, I seriously suspect you used to be in a special forces unit..."
Zhao Jun didn't have time for idle chatter with Cheng Zhengxiong. He turned to Li Wei, who had also crawled into the cabin, and commanded, "Grab everything useful and hurry up! Those bandits have another helicopter. If they hear any noise, they might come to reinforce."
Li Wei was startled and quickly bent down to search through the scattered items for anything useful.
Zhao Jun crouched down and pried a large Desert Eagle from the hand of the dead black dog, shoving it into his waistband without hesitation as he rummaged through the pockets of the corpse.
Zhao Jun didn't even realize that he was no longer afraid of dead bodies. The fear and uncertainty that followed close combat had vanished; it seemed that some primal instinct within him had been awakened during the fight. When he killed the black dog just moments ago, he hadn't hesitated at all. Even when he shot at Bian's corpse while rushing over, he felt no sense of wrongdoing.
Wasn't this how it was portrayed on television? After watching so many movies and shows, in certain situations, people naturally mimic the successful actions of those characters.
Hearing Zhao Jun mention that the bandits might come for support, Cheng Zhengxiong quickly shouted into the cabin, "I'll go up to the mountaintop to keep watch."
"You’re injured; let me go instead. I can run fast." Tang Hao'er, outside the cabin and reluctant to let go of her AUG, quickly interrupted Cheng Zhengxiong. Without waiting for anyone else to respond, she grabbed her gun and dashed off toward the mountaintop.
The mountaintop of this half-moon-shaped island served as a vantage point. From there, one could vaguely monitor the bandit nest at the foot of the mountain. If a helicopter tried to escape, it would surely not escape the eyes of someone on watch from above.
Cheng Zhengxiong couldn't catch up with Tang Hao'er and shook his head helplessly. "Sister Tang is really... quite impulsive."
Initially thinking of Tang Hao'er as a tough girl, he changed his words at the last moment to something more palatable.
"I found it!" Zhao Jun exclaimed joyfully from inside the cabin as he pulled out a first aid kit marked with a red cross from a pile of debris. He opened it briefly before closing it again and handed it back to Li Wei. "Take this; it will be very useful for us."
Cheng Zhengxiong had been injured in his shoulder, and with the bullet still lodged inside, he needed urgent treatment. There was no way they could manage without medical supplies, especially since these items might prove valuable later on.
Li Wei hurriedly took the medical kit from Zhao Jun's hands and passed it to Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei, who were preparing to join in the cleanup of the battlefield.
Cheng Zhengxiong received the medical kit and thanked Zhao Jun, who was still rummaging through things inside the cabin. He knew that Zhao Jun was likely looking for the medical kit, as evidenced by his exclamation of "Found it!" after locating it. The main reason for Zhao Jun's search was probably to tend to his own injuries.
Zhao Jun seemed not to have heard Cheng Zhengxiong's thanks; he was focused on pulling a canvas backpack out from the clutter.
After extracting the backpack, Zhao Jun glanced inside briefly before handing it over to Li Wei. He instructed, "Put all the useful items in here. We need to leave quickly."
Li Wei acknowledged and began searching for useful items, but the cabin was a chaotic mess, making it difficult for him to discern what was truly valuable.
The helicopter had flipped over, and everything inside had fallen to one side, resembling a junkyard. It took considerable effort to sift through the debris.
Zhao Jun tossed a few empty water bottles to Li Wei. "Pack these up."
Li Wei looked at the empty bottles rolling at his feet and exclaimed, "What the hell? Why are we picking up this junk? Do you think I'm a scavenger?"
"Stop talking nonsense. What will you use to carry water without these?" Zhao Jun snapped, turning back to search for other useful items.
Li Wei grinned slightly; without those empty bottles, there really wasn't anything else to hold water. He quickly picked up the empty water bottles that Zhao Jun had thrown at his feet and stuffed them into the backpack.
About ten minutes later, Zhao Jun and Li Wei crawled out through the shattered front window of the helicopter. Li Wei carried a bulging canvas backpack while Zhao Jun had a large bundle made from a blanket slung over his shoulder.
Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei helped them out of the wreckage. Not seeing Tang Hao'er around, Zhao Jun asked where she was. Cheng Zhengxiong pointed towards the mountaintop where Tang Hao'er was looking over at them. "She's over there."
Standing up, Zhao Jun spotted Tang Hao'er holding her gun with a serious expression on her face at the mountaintop. He waved at her and cupped his hands around his mouth, shouting loudly, "Hao'er, come back!"
Though Tang Hao'er couldn't clearly hear what Zhao Jun was saying, she understood his gesture. After glancing one last time at Bandit Nest below, she turned and ran toward Zhao Jun and the others.
When Tang Hao'er reached Zhao Jun's side, he was inspecting Bian's body, stuffing any useful items into his pockets.
Tang Hao'er couldn't bring herself to look at Bian's corpse. She stared at Zhao Jun's face, panting as she said, "Zhao Jun, I saw a boat docked in the bay. Can't we take that boat and escape?"
Zhao Jun stood up, stuffing the items he had taken from Bian into his pockets. He grabbed Tang Hao'er's arm and strode toward Cheng Zhengxiong and the others, saying, "We should discuss this later. No matter how fast the boat is, it can't outrun a plane. Once we're on the water, we'll become live targets for the enemy. If we can't deal with their other helicopter, taking the boat would be too dangerous..."
Tang Hao'er let out a soft "oh," her eyes shining as she looked at Zhao Jun's profile and asked, "Zhao Jun, how do you know so much?"
Zhao Jun naturally reached out and ruffled Tang Hao'er's hair. "I don't really know; I just feel that it would be dangerous to do that."
Tang Hao'er wrinkled her nose at Zhao Jun's playful gesture. "Hmph, I don't believe you. You must have had extraordinary experiences before."
Zhao Jun smiled slightly and took a few steps forward to grab the large bundle that Cheng Zhengxiong was holding. "We need to leave here; it's getting dark. We have to find a suitable hiding place before nightfall."
Cheng Zhengxiong stepped back slightly and said, "Teacher Zhao, I can carry it."
Zhao Jun chuckled as he snatched the bundle from Cheng Zhengxiong's hands and slung it over his back. He then pulled out a large Desert Eagle from his waist and handed it to Cheng Zhengxiong with a smile. "Mr. Cheng, you're injured; just take this. Alright, let's hurry up."
Cheng Zhengxiong gratefully accepted the Desert Eagle from Zhao Jun and nodded in acknowledgment.
Tang Hao'er adjusted the AUG she had been holding onto her shoulder and playfully linked her arm with Zhao Jun's, tilting her head as she said, "Zhao Jun, let me have this gun; I'm really good at shooting..."
By using the word 'have,' Tang Hao'er subconsciously regarded Zhao Jun as the leader of their group.
