Zhao Jun and the others retreated further into the forest. At that moment, a gunshot echoed from the other side of the mountain, and shortly after, a helicopter appeared at the summit.
Inside the helicopter, Bian cursed as he spat out of the cabin. Just as the helicopter was about to ascend to the peak, he caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a shadow darting from behind a thicket. Without hesitation, he fired a series of bullets at the bushes. The helicopter then circled above the thicket, and Bian shot a few more rounds into it, but there was no response from within.
Bian realized he had probably just imagined it. This brief delay had given Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er a chance to regroup; otherwise, with the speed of the helicopter, they would have already been exposed to his line of sight.
Sometimes, one cannot escape fate. It was due to this twist of timing that events unfolded in two drastically different directions.
The helicopter climbed to the summit, paused briefly, and searched low over potential hiding spots. Bian fired off a few random shots again. The pirate piloting the helicopter chuckled and said to Bian, "Bian, it's getting dark. Why don't we head back? We've already found what we were looking for. We can report back to Boss after returning. Once it's light again, we can search for those rabbits; Fortune Island is so big they can't escape. You can play however you want then."
Bian exhaled and replied, "Let's go back. Damn it, I need to blow off some steam tonight."
The pilot laughed heartily, "We have so many guests on the island right now, each one tender and delicate. I doubt Boss would mind if you got a little too friendly with one of them. Who knows, you might even become someone's secret lover."
Bian chuckled as well. He had no real connection with the deceased Ren; his decision to hunt down Zhao Jun and his group was merely an outlet for his frustration.
One of his comrades had been killed by those rabbits; Bian felt he couldn't leave without taking revenge on them.
The helicopter ascended slightly higher at the peak before turning toward Bandit Nest.
Bian leaned out of the cabin door, cursing those damn rabbits below him.
As the helicopter made a turn and was about to fly directly to Bandit Nest, Bian suddenly shouted, "Slow down, Black Dog! Look over there!"
The pilot known as Black Dog followed Bian's pointing finger and spotted two black dots conspicuously resting on a rock. He turned the controls and flew back toward the black dots.
"It's a pair of shoes! Damn it! Those rabbits must be hiding nearby," Bian exclaimed excitedly.
What Bian had discovered were Ren's combat boots that had been discarded on the rock when Zhao Jun had run away earlier.
"They must be in the forest below! Black Dog, fly over there and check it out. If we can catch those rabbits and bring them back, Boss will definitely reward us with a bigger share when it comes time to divide up the spoils."
Nothing else matters; the most important thing is to get a bigger share of the money when it comes time to divide it.
The Black Dog piloted the helicopter toward the mountains, teasingly saying, "Bian, there's no way to land this thing here. I can't help you. Can you handle it alone? They have that idiot's AUG."
Bian laughed heartily, "A few rabbits? Even if they had a tank, they'd still be rabbits. I don't know how they ambushed that fool. Don't worry, I can catch them all one by one."
In the mountains, Zhao Jun and the others saw the helicopter circling at the peak now flying toward them. Li Wei, pale-faced, grabbed Zhao Jun's arm and asked, "What should we do now?"
Zhao Jun stared at the approaching helicopter with a serious expression. "What are you afraid of? If we hide here, they won't be able to spot us from the air. However, I do have an idea to take them out..."
"What idea?" Tang Hao'er asked, her eyes sparkling as she grabbed Zhao Jun's other arm.
Zhao Jun squinted and said, "We surrender to them."
"Surrender?" Tang Hao'er’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.
After finally escaping, Zhao Jun wanted them to surrender?
Zhao Jun nodded slightly. "Yes, surrender. My plan is like this..."
After hearing Zhao Jun's plan, Cheng Zhengxiong nodded vigorously. "I think it's worth the risk to take down that helicopter. Every bit we weaken their power increases our chances of winning."
Tang Hao'er jumped up excitedly. "Let me go."
"No way, that's too risky. Sister Tang, you're a girl; I'll go instead," Cheng Zhengxiong stood up and blocked Tang Hao'er.
Su Mei heard Cheng Zhengxiong was going and nervously hugged his arm, shaking it.
Tang Hao'er protested, "What's wrong with being a girl? I'm not afraid of those guys."
Zhao Jun raised his hand to stop Tang Hao'er and said sternly, "With men around, it's not your place to take risks. I came up with the idea; I'll go."
Tang Hao'er felt a warm sensation in her heart from Zhao Jun's domineering presence, but she resolutely said to him, "You absolutely cannot go. If you step outside, they might very well shoot at you. Just because I am a woman, they won't be too wary of me. Moreover, they want to extort a large sum of money from me; they would never dare to kill me. Besides, after attracting them, there is something very important that you need to do."
Cheng Zhengxiong was injured and unable to engage in strenuous activity, and as for Li Wei, Tang Hao'er didn't trust him much for this task.
Zhao Jun's lips twitched slightly, unsure how to stop Tang Hao'er. He knew she was right; she could indeed better deceive the bandits than he could.
Suddenly, Tang Hao'er shook her fist at Zhao Jun and declared, "How dare you look down on women? I will show you my strength."
Zhao Jun grinned slightly. Was he really looking down on women?
Seeing Zhao Jun's expression, Tang Hao'er couldn't help but chuckle. She suddenly tiptoed and wrapped her arms around his neck, planting a kiss on his lips with a soft 'pop.' With a serious expression, she said to him, "Zhao Jun, you are mine. If anything happens to me, you must not forget me."
Zhao Jun's mouth twitched again, but it wasn't from savoring Tang Hao'er's bold kiss.
Tang Hao'er blushed and released Zhao Jun before turning and running out.
Zhao Jun reached out but missed grabbing Tang Hao'er. He hurriedly shoved the AUG into the awkward hands of Li Wei and said in a low voice, "Wait for my command before firing."
Li Wei stammered a couple of times and quickly nodded vigorously.
As a man, he felt embarrassed for not having the courage to step up and play the role of the surrendering one; he only felt a burning shame on his face.
