The helicopter slowly descended onto the island under several beams of searchlights. Shen Kun, beaming with a smile, opened the cabin door and jumped down first, enthusiastically greeting the crowd of Chicken Dinner Players who had rushed to the cabin door: "Welcome to Fortune Island, where you will spend an unforgettable and enjoyable journey!"
Tang Hao'er was the first to leap out of the plane. Upon seeing the surroundings, she couldn't help but widen her eyes in amazement: "Wow, this is so cool."
Without hesitation, Tang Hao'er tossed aside her suitcase and ran towards a burly man in camouflage with a black mask, who was armed to the teeth.
The Chicken Dinner Players followed suit, grabbing their luggage as they streamed out of the cabin. They were taken aback to see that the helicopter had landed in a large courtyard surrounded by high walls, with a dozen masked men standing guard, also armed.
"Hey handsome, is that gun real?" Tang Hao'er asked, her eyes sparkling as she reached out to touch the automatic rifle held by the masked man.
The burly man blocked her hand with his own and muttered something in French: "Don't touch it casually, or you might accidentally shoot yourself in the butt."
French was no challenge for Tang Hao'er. Hearing his words made her blush slightly, and she flashed a grin at him while replying in French: "Pfft, who cares about your old gun? Isn't it just an FN000? I've shot one at the range before."
The burly man couldn't help but laugh heartily at Tang Hao'er’s response: "You think that piece of junk you shot at the range can compare to my baby? I spent over a thousand dollars getting this customized..."
Just then, a middle-aged man with blonde hair wearing a casual jacket approached and interrupted him: "Cheese, you talk too much."
The man called Cheese quickly shut his mouth upon seeing the blonde man approach.
The blonde man smiled broadly and extended his hand to Tang Hao'er: "Welcome Sister Tang to Fortune Island! I am Charlie, the president of LL International Travel Agency."
Tang Hao'er's eyes lit up as she shook Charlie's hand and asked curiously: "Mr. Charlie, how did you know my last name is Tang?"
Charlie laughed heartily: "Sister Tang is so beautiful; I only needed to glance at the information Shen Kun sent me to remember it."
Tang Hao'er giggled: "Mr. Charlie, your travel agency has organized such an innovative event; I really like it. By the way, have people from other countries arrived? When does the event officially start?"
Charlie replied with a smile: "People from other countries have mostly arrived; everyone is resting now. Once it gets bright, you'll be able to meet them. After sunrise, I'll arrange a grand welcome banquet for everyone. As for the activities, we will wait until our esteemed guests have rested well before starting."
Tang Hao'er nodded excitedly: "I can hardly wait!"
Charlie chuckled: "I feel the same way. Sister Tang, please head back for now; Shen Kun will help everyone arrange their rest."
At that moment, Shen Kun was calling the curious Chicken Dinner Players back to the group. Tang Hao'er waved cheerfully at Charlie and ran back to the team.
Charlie shot a glare at Cheese before approaching the murmuring Chinese tourists with a broad smile. "Welcome to Fortune Island! I am Charlie, the president of LL International Travel Agency. I have prepared a resting place for everyone, but please bear with us as the conditions on the island are quite basic."
Charlie's English was understood by most of the Chinese tourists, and for those who didn't quite catch it, Shen Kun was there to help translate.
Cheng Zhengxiong wrapped his arm around Su Mei's waist and said to Charlie with a grin, "Mr. Charlie, no need for formalities. After sitting on a plane for so long, we just want to relax and get some sleep."
The crowd laughed in agreement with Cheng Zhengxiong's words. Ye Tong shouted from the back, "You need to bring us something to eat first! You must have prepared some red wine; I want a bottle of Lafite!"
Charlie chuckled, "We have everything you need. Please listen to Shen Kun's arrangements. If you have any specific requests, feel free to speak directly with him. We will do our best to accommodate you."
Laughter erupted among the people as they noticed the armed men surrounding the plane and the searchlights shining down, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a battle royale.
In the crowd, Tang Hao'er excitedly told Li Wei and Zhao Jun, "This is so cool! I just asked a guy with an FN000; his gun has been modified! He spent over a thousand dollars on it!"
Hearing Tang Hao'er's words, Yang Bing froze for a moment before stepping up to her and grabbing her arm, whispering urgently, "What do you mean? The guy's gun is modified?"
Tang Hao'er looked puzzled but nodded. "Yeah, he said so himself! He spent over a thousand dollars to have it specially modified. What's wrong?"
Yang Bing's expression tightened as he glanced at Charlie and Shen Kun in front of them, then surveyed the armed men nearby. He pulled Tang Hao'er back a few steps and said quietly to Li Wei and Zhao Jun, "If these people are professional soldiers or security personnel, they wouldn't spend that much money modifying a gun."
Zhao Jun's expression changed as he stared at Yang Bing and asked softly, "Brother Yang, what do you mean?"
Yang Bing furrowed his brow and replied quietly, "As far as I know, only those who live by their weapons would spend such a large sum to modify their frequently used arms. For example..."
"Mercenaries?!" Zhao Jun's lips twitched as he voiced his suspicion.
Yang Bing nodded solemnly and said quietly, "Maybe I'm just being paranoid. However, we are on this isolated island overseas, essentially like sheep waiting to be slaughtered. Moreover..."
Zhao Jun's face darkened as he picked up Yang Bing's train of thought: "Moreover, everyone participating in this event has an extraordinary background; I'm really the only exception. If these people have any ulterior motives, then each one of us could become their prey."
Yang Bing gently squeezed Zhao Jun's arm and whispered, "Teacher Zhao, because your identity is simple, you are actually the most dangerous one."
Zhao Jun nodded, his face darkening as he replied quietly, "To kill the chicken to scare the monkey, I am that chicken."
Yang Bing nodded in agreement. Li Wei, wide-eyed, exclaimed, "Mr. Yang, you're overthinking this. It's just an event; they even brought in mercenaries! You've scared me."
Tang Hao'er’s face had turned pale as she listened to Li Wei's doubts and hurriedly nodded. It was just an event; how could it turn into a kidnapping based on what Yang Bing and Zhao Jun were implying?
Yang Bing looked at the three of them and said softly, "Whether it's a kidnapping or not will be revealed soon enough. I'll go test it out in a bit. For now, keep quiet to avoid escalating the situation. If our worst fears are confirmed, we’ll find a way to escape together. We just need to get out of here; we’ll figure out a way from there."
Tang Hao'er, her face ashen, suggested, "Then let’s hijack this helicopter and fly back."
Yang Bing shook his head firmly. "No, look around at all these bandits. If we try to seize the helicopter, it will definitely provoke them. With only thirty-two of us, I doubt many will make it onto the aircraft. Plus, we don’t know if there’s enough fuel to get us to safety. We can’t let the bandits realize we’re suspicious; that’s our only chance to find an escape route."
Hearing Yang Bing refer to the people from LL International Travel Agency as 'bandits' made Tang Hao'er tremble inside.
Perhaps it was a natural trust in military personnel that made Tang Hao'er feel that Yang Bing's suspicions might indeed be true.
At that moment, Shen Kun at the front of the crowd called for everyone to follow him to arrange accommodations. Suddenly, Yang Bing stepped out from the crowd and shouted at Shen Kun, "Shen Kun, wait a moment."
Seeing Yang Bing step forward made Zhao Jun, Li Wei, and Tang Hao'er's hearts tighten in an instant.
