The night was deep and quiet, the surroundings vast and desolate. None of us spoke; a heavy silence enveloped the air.
After a long pause, I suddenly laughed and asked him seriously, "Tan Feng, you can't really be falling for me, can you?"
I had asked him this before, but back then it was mostly in jest. However, at this moment, I was sincere.
Tan Feng seemed to take my question seriously as well. He paused for a moment, then shook himself out of his thoughts, rubbed the tip of his nose, and slowly replied, "Yes."
Just a few steps away, he fixed his gaze on my eyes and added, "I've liked you for a long time."
A long time? I couldn't help but chuckle. "But we've only known each other for a few days."
Tan Feng smiled lightly as he walked toward the bank and sat down by the edge of the pond. For some reason, I followed him and sat beside him.
Our arms merely brushed against each other’s clothing, yet he suddenly stood up and shifted away. Seeing my surprise, he quickly explained, "I'm wet."
Ah, that made sense.
The atmosphere fell silent again for a moment. Then he unexpectedly picked up the previous topic. "Do you think I would make myself look so disheveled over someone I've only known for a few days?"
I was at a loss for words in response to that statement. Tan Feng seemed to realize that his words were inappropriate as well.
He explained, "I've known you for a long time."
"How long?" I asked, curious.
Tan Feng looked at me, his gaze carrying a hint of complexity.
"I noticed you the first time you took a selfie in that old Santana."
I was taken aback for a moment; he wasn't wrong. At that time, I was with a male colleague from the company.
Back then, I was madly infatuated with my ex-boyfriend.
My ex was the typical pretty boy—slender and handsome—but unfortunately, he had the face of a typical pretty boy and did all the things that came with it.
He consumed my resources while sweet-talking me on the surface, but in reality, he was using my money to chase after other girls.
In the end, I caught him red-handed, and he still had the audacity to claim it was because I wouldn't let him touch him.
It was one thing for him to spend my money on other girls, but after being caught cheating, he turned it around and accused me of being a seemingly virtuous yet secretly lewd older woman.
That was something I couldn't tolerate. Me, lewd? Was that something I could admit?
In a fit of rage, I slapped him twice and ran away before he could react.
After that, I handed in my resignation and blocked all contact related to him.
But to be honest, I had never seen Tan Feng during my time at the previous company.
Logically speaking, a man as outstanding as him would leave an impression even if only seen briefly.
Yet I had no recollection of him at all.
Then Tan Feng began to tell me things I didn't know about myself.
For example...
As the CEO of a certain company, Tan Feng unexpectedly fell head over heels for a young girl in the same building. There wasn't any particular reason for it; it was simply because she always liked to check her reflection in front of his car, striking various silly yet adorable poses and occasionally showcasing her alluring figure.
I thought to myself, ... well, that’s definitely me.
I recalled my time at my previous job, driving the old clunker my family had given me to work. I discovered that in the corner of the parking lot where I loved to park, there was a Bentley. I parked there every time I went to work. The car's windows were tinted, making it impossible to see inside.
I had assumed it was just an old car belonging to some wealthy big shot who never drove it. Who would have thought that someone actually sat inside it every day?
