Pushing aside the bushes, Xu Nuan was not surprised to see five simple military backpacks quietly lying in the lush green grass.
"Sure enough, they prepared backpacks for you, but the contents should be quite limited. We can replenish at the Supply Station later."
Before Xu Nuan's words could settle, several exhausted individuals, weary from walking in leather shoes or high heels for so long, rushed past her to grab a few military packs. They excitedly took them to a nearby tree, only to open them and start complaining.
"Why is there only water, compressed biscuits, and sleeping bags?"
"Aren't there any spare clothes or shoes?"
"What about basic medical supplies? There are so many mosquitoes in this jungle!"
Xu Nuan felt too drained to remind them any further.
Just then, when she turned around, she saw Gu Ze effortlessly holding a military pack in one hand, looking at her with eager eyes.
A faint memory left Xu Nuan feeling lost. Raising an eyebrow, she directly asked, "Do we know each other?"
As soon as she spoke, she noticed Gu Ze's deep brown eyes becoming more profound. His voice was warm and rich, with a hint of magnetism.
"We do."
"I haven't seen you at headquarters, nor have I been to Heng Technology," Xu Nuan replied, still puzzled.
She had changed; she was no longer the lively girl with a sweet smile from her memories. Now, she could be described as an independent and mature woman. Her face was identical, yet her eyes showed no emotion, her lips were pressed straight, and her expression was remarkably calm.
The surging memories overwhelmed Gu Ze, but he quickly emerged from them, his tone gentle and his expression unchanged, though his eyes remained fixed on Xu Nuan.
"Yes, we met a long time ago. It's perfectly normal that you don't remember."
"Is that so? Then I apologize."
Xu Nuan's words lacked sincerity; throughout one's life, one encounters countless people, and it's impossible to remember everyone who merely passes by.
Naturally, as Xu Nuan turned away, she did not see the fleeting sadness in Gu Ze's eyes. Instead, she noticed Deng Yinyin's suddenly tense demeanor.
Puzzled, Xu Nuan shrugged and walked to the other side, waiting for the others to finish their complaints before continuing on.
It was already dusk, and the jungle, which let in little light to begin with, became even darker. The quiet surroundings made the atmosphere feel more sinister; any sound of branches or leaves rustling sent chills down one's spine, and even stepping on a dry twig could make someone jump in fright.
Glancing at her companions who were constantly on guard, Xu Nuan sighed lightly. This was how it felt to be insincere.
"These tall trees that look like red banyans are called Special Trees. In each level, you need to find these trees first. Following them will lead you to the Supply Station, which means you've cleared this level."
As Xu Nuan walked, she casually introduced some basic game information to the group.
"Wow, these trees are all red! How amazing!"
"I've never seen such big trees before!"
The group immediately began to admire the Special Trees like tourists, their earlier vigilance forgotten. This only strengthened Xu Nuan's resolve to part ways with them in the next level.
After walking for over an hour, when the group could only rely on the flashlight in Xu Nuan's hand to observe their surroundings, she finally stopped.
"Let's take a break here; the jungle can be very dangerous at night."
As Xu Nuan's voice faded, several people let out a sigh of relief, dropping their military bags onto the ground. The few in formal attire began to rub their necks and stretch their backs without any regard for appearances.
Xu Nuan found a clear spot and was just about to unroll her damp-proof mat when Tang Jingshu approached her, a hint of shyness in her tone.
"Xu Nuan, could you lend us some tissues? Deng Yinyin and I really need them."
Xu Nuan said nothing and simply pulled some tissues from her bag, handing them over without glancing at Deng Yinyin, who was waiting nearby.
Two girls took the only flashlight and left, while the remaining men started chatting more freely.
Xu Nuan did not join their conversation; instead, she took out a lighter and gathered the dry twigs and leaves she had collected earlier, piling them together to start a fire.
Under the flickering light, everyone's faces appeared shadowy and indistinct. Suddenly, the voices of the men fell silent.
A heavy silence enveloped the group.
It was abruptly broken by a high-pitched, piercing scream.
"Ah! There's a monster!"
