“Kaido, we’re here to help you.”
With a shout, several figures rushed toward the prone form of Xiaqiu.
This was the Fishman Squad, responsible for reconnaissance. After suffering heavy losses from Xiaqiu's attacks, the remaining Fishmen dared not approach closely. Instead, they periodically scouted the sea and reported back to the Fleet above.
At first, they were hesitant to come near, but as time passed and the battle intensified, they gradually drew closer and discovered the condition of Kaido and the giant beast.
Kaido lay there with one arm severed, propped against the corpse of a Sea King, his body covered in wounds.
The giant beast also lay motionless, only shifting occasionally.
“Kaido is gravely injured, and the giant beast can’t move. We’ll split into two groups. Els, you come with me to lift Kaido up.”
The captain of the Fishman Squad shouted, “The rest of you attack the giant beast.”
“Yes, Lord Kalis.”
The six members immediately split up; two approached Kaido while the remaining four charged toward the giant beast.
“Kaido, we’re taking you away.”
Kalis reached Kaido and, along with Els, grasped his body.
They were Fishmen with immense strength, and both were among the stronger ones in their ranks. Even while carrying Kaido, they could still move away.
“Don’t.”
But a weak voice emerged from beneath Kaido’s lowered head. “Just go.”
“What?”
Kalis looked confused, and then Kaido's voice rang out again, "Leave, go back, let Queen leave."
"Leave?"
Kalis furrowed her brow, but as Kaido's words fell, a scream echoed from afar.
Crunch, crunch.
Two Fishmen were caught in Xiaqiu's jaws, being chewed on mercilessly.
The other two Fishmen were tightly ensnared by Tentacles, unable to break free at all.
Whoosh.
Xiaqiu did not immediately devour the two Fishmen; instead, it charged toward them.
"Kaido, we should go now."
Kalis and Els helped Kaido up, but he pushed them away forcefully, standing on one leg and shouting loudly, "You all go! Tell Queen to leave."
Boom.
Xiaqiu's head collided with Kaido's body, while Kaido pressed his right hand against Xiaqiu's upper jaw, forcing it down to the ground.
"Go now."
Kaido shouted loudly. Seeing this scene, Kalis gritted her teeth and said, "Els, you go report back. I'll help here."
"Understood."
Els immediately left, and Kalis lunged at Xiaqiu, drawing a spear from behind to stab at Xiaqiu.
Boom.
Kaido was sent flying, and then Xiaqiu bit towards Kalis.
Clang.
Kalis's spear blocked in front but was shattered instantly, and then Xiaqiu bit down on Kalis, chewing while attempting to ascend.
However, Els was incredibly fast. Xiaqiu chased for a couple of steps but couldn't catch up, landing heavily and lying still.
Crunch, crunch.
Xiaqiu devoured both Fishmen, then looked somewhat regretful as Kaido managed to convey information.
After consuming one of Kaido's arms, the situation changed over the next twenty-four hours.
In the first two hours, Kaido could still launch attacks.
But by the sixth hour, Kaido could only passively defend.
By the twelfth hour, Xiaqiu had torn off one of his legs and retreated once more.
At this point, Kaido had already lost the battle.
His death was inevitable.
Yet when Xiaqiu attacked again, the intensity did not increase; it merely knocked Kaido down to the ground once more.
For the next twelve hours, every time Kaido regained a bit of strength, he was met with an attack.
This drained all the energy Kaido had managed to recover, and his physical condition continued to deteriorate.
Meanwhile, Xiaqiu was conserving his strength. By eating, his injuries began to heal, and he regained his stamina, feeling better with each passing moment.
At first, Kaido was unsure of Xiaqiu's intentions as he observed the situation. However, as time went on, it became clear to him.
Xiaqiu did not intend to defeat him immediately.
If he killed Kaido now, his own injuries would still be unhealed, and his combat power would be diminished.
But if he waited until he fully recovered before striking down Kaido, then he could turn his attention to the Fleet above.
At that point, with his strength restored, no one in the water could stand against him. Aside from a few individuals, he could easily overwhelm anyone in his path, potentially sinking the entire Fleet.
Realizing this, Kaido understood Xiaqiu's plan and grew anxious to relay this information.
When the Fishman Reconnaissance Team drew near, he seized the opportunity to send out the message.
For Xiaqiu, this was a missed opportunity.
His current level of recovery was beyond what Kaido had anticipated. With Kaido's arm weakened, Xiaqiu held the advantage.
The leg he provided allowed him to surpass Kaido further. Coupled with twenty-four hours of eating and Kaido's increasing weakness, there was no chance for Kaido to inflict further injury on him.
This was akin to having fully recovered after twenty-four hours of eating; at least two twisted legs had regained their mobility.
The reason for this strategy was to ensure that Kaido's subordinates were left behind, particularly Flood from the Disasters.
Kaido was already within reach, but now it seemed impossible to achieve that.
What a pity.
Xiaqiu slowly stood up when the warmth provided by the Fishman appeared and walked up to Kaido.
"Goodbye, Kaido."
Xiaqiu looked down at Kaido and said softly, "You are a worthy opponent, but now, you must die."
"Enough with the nonsense."
Kaido roared, rising on one leg and lunging toward Xiaqiu.
"Die."
Xiaqiu opened his mouth wide, rows of sharp teeth gleaming ominously as he slowly closed it.
...
"You let them escape, Kaido?"
Ken stared coldly at Els in front of him. "He even lost an arm and a leg? How is that possible?"
"Is yours real?" Queen frowned as he looked at the other man.
"Mine is real."
"Els said, 'Kaido is over there, unable to move. Captain Kali and I are going to take Kaido away while the other four attack the beast. In the end, Kaido let us escape and even allowed you all to leave. By the time I came to my senses, that beast was already charging at us. Kaido and Kalis held it off while I came to deliver the news.'
'How could Kaido lose?'
Ken's expression turned guilty as his right hand transformed into a serpent's tail, striking towards Els in an instant.
Clang.
Queen blocked his tail with her sword and coldly said, 'Ken, stop it.'
'He's talking nonsense! He must be colluding with the enemy!' Ken shouted.
'Colluding with the enemy?'
Queen sighed. 'Six went out, and only one returned. Do you really think he could manage that? One against five?'
'And there's that beast as well,' Ken quickly added.
'If Kaido had the upper hand,'
Queen shook her head. 'Could he just stand by and watch as five of his subordinates are killed? Even if it ended in a stalemate, Kaido wouldn't allow those five to die.'
'But...'
Ken opened his mouth at Queen's words but couldn't find a rebuttal.
'So it's very likely that what he said is true; Kaido might really be in danger,' Queen said sadly.
Ken asked, 'What should we do then?'"
“Almost all the Fishman Squad is dead.”
Queen said with concern, “There’s no one left to fight underwater. And the enemy’s strength is formidable. If they attack us, aside from the Flying Troops, no one will escape.”
At this point, Queen gently added, “It’s time to leave here.”
“Queen.”
Ken couldn’t help but ask, “Are you going to betray Kaido?”
“I’m just following his orders.”
Queen replied coldly, “The Beast Pirates are Kaido’s legacy. He wants us to leave; we cannot sink here.”
“I want to stay and fight until the end.”
Ken shouted, standing up. “Who wants to stay here and wait for Kaido’s return with me?”
“We do.”
Members of the Pirate Crew around him stood up one by one, all the Combat Team Leaders rising together.
“You all…”
Seeing this scene, Queen’s expression softened slightly.
“If you want to go, then go.”
Ken looked at Queen and said, “We will stay here. Even if we die, we will die fighting for Kaido.”
"Is that so?"
Queen smiled bitterly and said, "Since that's the case, I might as well stay here. I want to preserve Kaido's efforts, but if you all die here, then there's no reason for me to leave."
"Alright then."
Ken, with a joyful expression, stood up and said, "We'll wait on this island to welcome Kaido. If that giant beast comes up, we'll fight it here."
"Kaido."
Queen sat there, gazing into the distance with a lonely expression and said, "Although this isn't the outcome you wanted, to die in battle for you is an immense honor for us."
"Please allow us to defy your orders just this once."
Queen gently said, raising her wine bowl and downing it in one gulp.
