Beneath the sea, Xiaqiu and Kaido were too exhausted to stand. They lay there, resting, trying to regain some strength before facing their enemies once more.
The two of them were in a dire state. Xiaqiu had lost sight in one eye, his left front leg was crushed, and his right hind leg was shattered. The base of his tail was severed, his scales were broken, and his dorsal fin had been smashed.
Kaido had multiple fractures throughout his body. His left arm was rendered useless, and the bones in his left leg were shattered beyond support. He had no idea how many bones he had broken; his body was covered in blood.
"My weapon."
As Kaido consumed the flesh and blood of the Sea Kings, he glanced at his mace, which now bore fine cracks on its surface.
This weapon had accompanied him for over a decade, proving effective in every battle. It was made from a hard alloy, second only to diamond in hardness but far superior in toughness.
Diamonds are brittle; powerful strikes can shatter them, but this alloy remained unscathed.
Not only that, it was resistant to wear and tear and could withstand high temperatures. Even at a thousand degrees Celsius, it retained its formidable strength.
In battles against Red-Haired, the famed sword Griffon could not break this weapon.
During his fight with Whitebeard, even Whitebeard's Child's Blade failed to shatter it.
When he subdued Queen, the latter's Black Blade combined with Armament Haki could not destroy his mace either.
A few years ago, when he attacked Wano Country—the birthplace of famous swords—not a single weapon could break his mace.
Yet now, after thirty-six hours of fighting against Xiaqiu, cracks had begun to appear on it.
"Truly tenacious."
Kaido looked at Xiaqiu in the distance and felt pressure for the first time. From confidently believing he could defeat him at the start to now feeling a flicker of doubt within his steadfast heart.
"Just a little more, just a little more."
Xiaqiu lay in the distance, continuing to gnaw on the corpse of the Sea King, swallowing mouthfuls and allowing the flesh within to transform into a surge of energy.
As the energy peaked and began to wane, Xiaqiu moved its battered legs and charged toward Kaido. The speed was not fast, but it reached Kaido and collided with him.
"Here we go again."
Kaido stood on one leg, gripping his Mace tightly, raising it high before bringing it crashing down.
But in the next moment, his arm stiffened.
Two Tentacles had wrapped around his arm, while Xiaqiu's mouth clamped down on his left side.
"Tentacles? Didn't I sever them?"
Kaido had torn Xiaqiu's Tentacles off yesterday, yet he was surprised to find they were still intact.
"But it's nothing more than this."
Kaido allowed Xiaqiu to bite him as his right arm swelled slowly before he struck down again.
The Tentacles were ripped apart, and Kaido's Mace struck Xiaqiu's head.
Crack.
The Mace in Kaido's hand shattered instantly, while Xiaqiu's skull cracked open with numerous fissures.
The immense force sent Xiaqiu's head spinning to the side, but it used that very momentum to swing its mouth fiercely to the side.
Sizzle.
Kaido's left arm was bitten off by Xiaqiu, who clamped down on the left side of Kaido's body. However, Xiaqiu could only use its back teeth to tear off Kaido's entire left arm.
Thud, thud.
Xiaqiu slowly retreated, feeling dizzy and the world around it fading to black.
I can't sleep.
Xiaqiu fought to stay awake, as waves of Evolutionary Energy surged into its body, healing some of its injuries.
Xiaqiu became a bit more alert, but the pain in its head remained intense. It mechanically backed away while chewing on Kaido's arm, letting the blood flow freely.
"It hurts."
Kaido looked at his severed left arm and then glanced at Mace, his expression tinged with regret.
His weapon was destroyed, and he had lost an arm.
In the future, his strength would undoubtedly be affected.
But as long as he could kill this guy, that was enough.
Kaido decided not to delay any longer. Losing an arm and inflicting a fatal wound on Xiaqiu was sufficient.
With his right hand, Kaido tore off his belt and used his teeth to secure his severed left arm, staunching the flow of blood.
"Must be painful, huh? You should be reaching your limit now."
Kaido watched as Xiaqiu's head swayed back and forth, dragging his injured leg toward him, a smile on his face. "Was it worth it, taking such a severe injury for just one arm?"
As Kaido approached, Xiaqiu had already swallowed Kaido's arm, stumbling backward in an attempt to evade him.
But his steps were unsteady; the dizziness in his head made it difficult to maintain his balance. The Evolutionary Energy within him was nearly depleted, barely keeping him from feeling worse.
Kaido hopped toward Xiaqiu on one leg, closing the distance between them.
Hurry up, hurry up.
Feeling Kaido's approach, Xiaqiu silently prayed.
"Die."
Kaido reached Xiaqiu and brought his right arm crashing down toward Xiaqiu's head.
"Here it comes."
Xiaqiu felt a surge of powerful energy erupting within him and charged directly at Kaido.
Boom.
Xiaqiu collided with Kaido, sending him flying while Xiaqiu himself was knocked to the ground.
"How can there still be such immense power?"
Kaido fell to the ground, spitting out blood. He tried to stand but ended up sitting back down, unable to rise.
His skull was fractured, yet he still possessed such strength.
Kaido watched from a distance as Xiaqiu lay on the ground, waiting for his strength to recover. Once he regained his power, if he struck again, there would be no doubt that Xiaqiu would perish.
Xiaqiu was sprawled on the ground, his head spinning even more, yet the energy within him continued to surge.
"Impressive. Just the power of one arm has reached such a level."
Xiaqiu felt the Enhanced Energy manifesting in his stomach, rivaling that of a Major General, and even comparable to a Vice Admiral.
This energy was enough to increase Xiaqiu's physical strength and provide him with greater power.
Thank you, Kaido, for giving me this final surge of strength that will allow me to defeat you.
Though Xiaqiu was at his last gasp, consuming Kaido's arm had granted him an additional boost in combat ability.
"Paper Drawing."
Xiaqiu released all the power within him, then pushed off lightly with both legs, allowing his body to drift with the current until he landed on the corpse of a Sea King.
He opened his mouth and began to gnaw at the Sea King's body. With each bite, pain shot through him; the movement of his jaws triggered excruciating agony throughout his entire being.
Yet he desperately chewed on the Sea King's flesh, swallowing chunks of its blood and meat. These morsels transformed into Evolutionary Energy, mending his wounds.
"How can he still move?"
Seeing this scene, Kaido's eyes narrowed in disbelief. He sat there, unable to comprehend why this giant beast's vitality was so tenacious.
Damn it.
Kaido felt the sensation of impending death for the first time, a feeling that he was just one step away from plunging into the abyss of mortality.
Yet this sensation did not instill fear in him; instead, it ignited excitement.
Come on.
If you want to kill me, then come and try.
Kaido's eyes sparkled with fierce battle intent, and the pain in his body transformed into a surge of exhilaration.
