Chapter Seventy-Nine: A Crisis Lurking
Conqueror's Haki.
One of the three types of Haki, it is possessed by only one in a million. Unlike Armament Haki and Observation Haki, it cannot be learned; one must be born with it.
Conqueror's Haki represents the qualities of a king, and its bearer is qualified to become a formidable leader who commands respect from all.
To think that I possess Conqueror's Haki.
Xiaqiu was astonished, but after the initial shock, a wave of excitement washed over him.
Having Conqueror's Haki meant he had the potential of a ruler.
But what kind of king am I? The King of Salted Fish?
As Xiaqiu's mood began to settle, he felt puzzled about being a fish yet possessing Conqueror's Haki.
In the world of One Piece, only humans can wield Haki; no animals are known to possess it. (The Kung Fu Manatee's Haki is an original creation for the anime.)
Yet here he was, with Haki, and even Conqueror's Haki.
After the initial shock, Xiaqiu gradually regained his composure and looked towards the coast.
Moo Moo and Gray Wolf lay sprawled on the ground; the ordinary Gray Wolf was unconscious, while the Wolf King convulsed. Moo Moo's body was stiff, having reverted to its Manatee form.
Unable to get back on shore, Moo Moo realized that in order to survive, he had to wake up before them and kill them.
Now, Moo Moo was covered in scars. Although none of the wounds were deep enough to affect his insides, he was bleeding continuously, unsure if he could wake up before Wolf King.
"Wake up quickly," Xiaqiu prayed in her heart.
Time passed second by second. Moo Moo's tail twitched, and Wolf King's limbs stirred slightly.
After a while, Moo Moo's body twisted, and his pectoral fins began to flap up and down, while Wolf King's limbs curled up.
Two more minutes passed.
Boom.
Moo Moo gritted his teeth and twisted his body, managing to shift from lying on his back to lying on his stomach.
Beside him, Wolf King shook his body and moved his limbs, propping himself up.
"Awo."
The Wolf King let out a howl, staring at Moo Moo, his mouth splitting open to reveal sharp teeth that glinted ominously. He stood there, moving forward step by step, slowly approaching Moo Moo.
Seeing him awake, Moo Moo struggled violently, but it was of no use.
This was bad.
The Wolf King had woken up first.
Xiaqiu wanted to use Haki again, but realized that no matter what, he couldn't access it.
As he watched the Wolf King advance toward Moo Moo while Moo Moo could only thrash helplessly, Xiaqiu felt a deep sense of worry.
But Haki was unusable.
Even if it were available, the next to awaken would surely be the Wolf King, and even faster this time.
Moo Moo was done for.
Xiaqiu sighed, his gaze tinged with sadness. Was it true that he still couldn't save him?
The Wolf King reached Moo Moo and opened his massive jaws, aiming to bite down on Moo Moo's neck.
But in that instant, Moo Moo suddenly twisted his head and opened his giant mouth to bite at the Wolf King.
The Wolf King wanted to dodge, but its body had not recovered, and it couldn't escape.
Crack.
Moo Moo bit down on the Wolf King's neck, its sharp teeth sinking in and piercing through.
Gush.
Blood flowed from the Wolf King's mouth and neck as it struggled violently. However, Moo Moo held on tightly, and the more the Wolf King struggled, the larger the wound became.
Before long, the Wolf King slowly succumbed, its eyes filled with a hint of unwillingness.
"Huff."
Moo Moo released the lifeless body of the Wolf King and exhaled, a glint of cunning flashing in its eyes.
Xiaqiu also felt relieved.
This fellow...
Just a moment ago, Moo Moo had been writhing in place, appearing to be in pain and unable to move.
In the next moment, it had lunged forward and clamped down on the Wolf King.
Agile and alert, there was not a trace of being affected by Haki.
It seemed that the earlier act was a disguise; Moo Moo had recovered faster than the Wolf King, but his stamina was still lacking. Approaching the Wolf King to attack would only drain his energy further.
So he pretended to be incapacitated, twisting his body as he waited for the Wolf King to make a move.
Once the Wolf King stood up, fearing that Moo Moo might recover, he couldn't wait to attack.
Then Moo Moo launched a surprise attack.
Feigning death once more.
Xiaqiu recalled how he had previously attacked him, only for Moo Moo to escape by pretending to be dead, and found it somewhat amusing.
Boom.
Moo Moo bit down hard on the Wolf King, transforming into a lion as he pushed himself up, heading towards the remaining Gray Wolves.
These Gray Wolves had already awakened and were trying to regain control of their bodies.
Crunch, crunch.
All the unconscious Gray Wolves were seized by Moo Moo, who bit their necks and killed them instantly.
Heaving a sigh, Moo Moo bit down on his enemies and then collapsed, transforming back into his Sea Beast form, gasping for breath.
His stamina had reached its limit.
Moo Moo struggled to continue the fight, but he was now at the brink, unable to move.
Lying there, he took a moment to rest, turning his head toward Xiaqiu, his eyes brimming with tears and filled with gratitude.
In those final moments, as he faced death, a powerful force surged forth, knocking the Gray Wolves unconscious.
Though he too was affected, he regained consciousness first and managed to kill the Gray Wolves, achieving victory.
That force could not have come from the Gray Wolves or himself.
So it must have been his brother.
Moo Moo found himself in a desperate situation, feeling both wronged and relieved.
Seeing Moo Moo cry, Xiaqiu shook his head and swam a short distance away before suddenly flicking his tail.
Water splashed up and fell onto Moo Moo, soaking him, and his eyes brightened a little.
After resting for a while, Moo Moo turned its head and bit into a wolf, devouring it bite by bite.
But just then, Moo Moo suddenly transformed into a lion and roared towards the distant forest.
What was happening?
Xiaqiu peeked out, looking into the distance where a shadow emerged from the trees, with two glowing eyes slowly approaching.
The shadow stepped out of the forest and into the clearing in front of Moo Moo.
It was a massive tiger, striped in yellow and black, about thirty-five meters long, with a powerful body and sturdy limbs. Standing there, it exuded an overwhelming presence.
"Here again?"
Seeing the Giant Tiger, Xiaqiu's heart sank; this tiger was much larger than the Wolf King.
Now Moo Moo had reached its limit and was too exhausted to fight.
"Roar."
Moo Moo let out an angry roar, staring fiercely at the tiger.
The tiger turned its head to look at the corpse of the Gray Wolf on the ground. Upon seeing the body of the Wolf King, its eyes narrowed slightly. It then looked back at Moo Moo, its gaze filled with apprehension.
But it continued to approach, head lowered, letting out a faint growl.
"Roar."
Moo Moo roared again, its claws scraping the ground slightly in an attempt to drive it away, while Xiaqiu's heart raced.
However, the tiger moved to the side, biting onto the corpse of Wolf King, keeping a wary eye on Moo Moo as it dragged it backward.
Splash, splash, splash.
The tiger retreated with Wolf King in tow, disappearing into the jungle.
Seeing it leave, Moo Moo let out a sigh of relief. Once it was far enough away, it transformed back into its original form and lay down to eat Gray Wolf's corpse.
Before long, Moo Moo had reduced Gray Wolf to mere remnants. Its strength had recovered significantly, and the bleeding had stopped.
It transformed into a lion once more and approached a Gray Wolf nearly twenty meters long. With one bite, it dragged the wolf toward the shore.
Reaching the edge of the water, Moo Moo set Gray Wolf down and lowered its head to push forward.
The Horn pierced beneath Gray Wolf, and with a swift motion, Gray Wolf tumbled into the sea.
"Moo Moo, Moo Moo."
Moo Moo transformed back into Sea Beast, lying by the water's edge, calling out a few times while staring at Xiaqiu.
"Is this food for me?"
Xiaqiu felt a warmth in her heart. She bit down on the corpse of Gray Wolf and began to eat.
Six terrestrial mammals.
This was her first time eating a terrestrial creature.
The taste was very different from that of marine life; it wasn't particularly delicious, but since it was her first time, Xiaqiu didn't mind.
As she devoured Gray Wolf, she felt curious about what changes would occur within her after consuming it.
