Chapter Thirty-Six: Ambush
Xiaqiu attacked the Fishman, left Arlong Park, and sank to the seabed, quietly waiting.
At this moment, a Heat Flow began to emerge within Xiaqiu, spreading outwards through the body.
The intensity of the Heat Flow was considerable; if one were to evaluate it, it would be roughly equivalent to the attack on the Porcupine Pirates when they took down Moor and the First Mate.
It was slightly more than what Colonel Belial could produce but less than that of Colonel Bilido.
Such a Heat Flow was already quite significant.
Just two ordinary Fishmen, who did not appear particularly robust, provided such a vast amount of energy.
It seemed this was due to the formidable nature of the Fishman race; their physical endurance was ten times that of humans, and their bodies contained even greater energy.
Within their not-so-large physiques lay immense power, growing laterally rather than vertically. This energy resembled Enhanced Energy.
Although Fishmen were generally taller than humans—like Jinbei at three meters, and the Dragon at two point six meters—the Giant Squid Fishman from the New Fish-Man Pirates could reach four meters—they still had a growth limit. Within this limit, their strength continued to increase.
Despite being Fishmen, their method of gaining strength was not vastly different from that of humans.
Xiaqiu was uncertain if there was any growth energy involved, but it was clear that most of it was Enhanced Energy.
That was already sufficient.
The energy provided by just two Ordinary Fishmen excited Xiaqiu immensely.
They were not strong, only responsible for guarding. How powerful must those strong Fish Soldiers, Officers, and even Arlong be?
They still needed to attack more Fish Soldiers and the Dragon Pirate Crew Officers.
Thinking of this, Xiaqiu looked down at the seabed, quietly waiting.
Time passed slowly, and before long, it was afternoon.
"Where are Ruijin and Peters? Why haven't they returned yet?"
In Arlong Park, Hachi stood there with six octopus arms, four of which were crossed over his chest while two scratched his head, looking somewhat irritated. "Did they go slacking off somewhere else?"
Hachi was in charge of guarding, being the second-in-command of the Dragon Park. His strength was enough to handle most threats.
"Lance, Eddie, you two go look for them and bring them back," Hachi said, glancing at the two Fishmen standing in the distance.
"Yes."
The two Fishmen immediately responded and walked out of Arlong Park toward the distance.
"Lance, where should we look?" Eddie asked curiously as he looked at the Fishman beside him.
Lance smiled and said, "Ruijin is a drunkard. After sending Arlong away, they probably sneaked off to drink. Let's first check that area in the woods."
Eddie nodded and walked with Lance toward the distance. But just then, he glanced at the harbor in the distance and frowned slightly. "Where did the Boardwalk go?"
The entire Boardwalk had disappeared except for a small section near the shore that remained.
Lance looked at the Boardwalk, puzzled, and asked, "Was it torn down by someone? Or was it knocked down by something?"
"Without the Boardwalk, it will be very inconvenient for Arlong and Lord Crooby to disembark. If they see this scene, they'll be very angry," Eddie nodded and said to Lance, "Let's not worry about Ruijin and Peters for now. We need to report this to Eight."
"Alright."
Lance and Eddie returned to Arlong Park and informed Eight about the situation, who frowned upon hearing their words.
"Who would tear down the Boardwalk? Was it those villagers?" Eight asked, his expression darkening.
"Besides them, there’s no one else," Lance said angrily. "We should go find them."
"How could it possibly be them?"
A voice came from behind, sounding somewhat childish.
"Is that Nami?"
Eight turned around to see Nami walking toward them. He curiously asked, "Why wouldn’t it be the villagers?"
Nami scoffed and replied, "Why would they do that?"
After thinking for a moment, Eight said, "To prevent the Pirate Ship from docking?"
"You idiot."
Nami said irritably, "You’re Fishmen; you can’t drown in water. The Boardwalk being damaged doesn’t affect you at all. Why would they want to provoke you like that?"
"That's true."
Ba pondered for a moment, realizing that Nami was right; the villagers had no reason to act that way.
Lance asked in confusion, "Then why did the Boardwalk disappear?"
Nami thought for a moment and replied, "It’s likely that the Boardwalk was poorly constructed, or perhaps the Pirate Ship collided with it when it set sail, or maybe it was damaged by Ruijin and his companion?"
At this point, Nami looked at Lance and asked, "Did you two go down to take a look? There should be pieces of the Boardwalk below. We can analyze whether it fell apart on its own or was damaged by external forces based on the fragments."
"No."
Lance and Eddie shook their heads. Eddie said, "We saw that the Boardwalk was broken and came to report it."
"Reporting to me is not enough; you need to investigate thoroughly. You're both useless, not even as good as Nami."
Ba snorted and said, "You two should hurry up and check it out."
"Yes."
Lance and Eddie quickly responded and ran outside together.
"Ba, aren't you going with them?" Nami asked, looking at Ba with a glimmer in her eyes.
"It's just an investigation; they can handle it," Ba shook his head.
"Yeah, that's right."
Nami smiled lightly and turned to walk toward the tower. She climbed the stairs back to her room on the fifth floor, which was piled high with thick documents.
Nami approached her desk, picked up a telescope, and looked out the window toward the distance.
The scene of the port unfolded before them.
Lance and Eddie slowly came into view.
Seeing them, Nami's lips curled into a faint smile, her eyes filled with anticipation.
...
"Isn't anyone coming down to investigate?"
Xiaqiu returned from feeding, lurking underwater and waiting.
The two Fishmen had vanished; shouldn't they have sent someone to check?
If they were going to repair the Boardwalk, someone would surely come down.
Once they arrived, Xiaqiu could ambush them, kill them, and swallow them whole.
So Xiaqiu lay in wait at the bottom of the sea, quietly biding time for the right moment to strike.
However, Xiaqiu waited until afternoon, having gone out to feed several times in between, yet no one showed up.
Could it be that they simply didn’t see?
Xiaqiu was unwilling to let this opportunity slip away; the main force of the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew had left, making it the perfect chance for an attack.
What faced him was at most an Officer.
Even if it was an Officer, under a surprise attack, there was no way they could put up a fight. Even if he couldn't win, he could always flee into the deep sea.
Wait a moment.
Xiaqiu continued to wait, hidden beneath the distant cliffs, sensing the vibrations of the surrounding Water Surface. It constantly emitted sound waves, exploring the nearby sea.
But at that moment.
Thud, thud.
Two vibrations approached, and Xiaqiu's echo location locked onto two figures.
They were coming.
Xiaqiu opened its mouth, revealing its jagged teeth.
