Chapter Twenty-Six: Wails and Laughter
On the Merchant Ship, the captain issued a command to steer away, and the sailors maneuvered the vessel to change direction, intending to leave.
Marcel leaned over the ship's railing, peering through a telescope at the distance, hoping to understand what was happening.
Boom, boom.
The distant sound of cannon fire echoed, and Marcel's mouth dropped open as he shouted, "They've fired! They're firing!"
"What are they targeting?"
The captain gazed into the distance, his expression puzzled.
The Merchant Ship slowly adjusted its course, gradually moving away while the captain continued to observe the situation with the Pirate Crew in the distance.
"We can't hold on much longer."
The captain assessed the declining speed of the Pirate Ship and made his judgment. At that moment, two ships began to descend on the starboard side of the Pirate Ship as it approached.
"They're trying to escape."
Marcel shouted loudly.
"Hurry, keep moving away."
The captain waved his hand but kept his gaze fixed on the horizon.
"It's Dominic and his crew." Marcel glared at those boarding the ship, his eyes filled with hatred.
Marcel wished for Dominic to sink along with the Pirate Ship, but it seemed unlikely now.
The Merchant Ship gradually drifted away, increasing the distance, while Dominic's two ships approached from this direction.
The Pirate Ship slowly sank; as the Merchant Ship receded, the Pirate Ship became less visible, and the vessels coming toward them could only be seen as vague silhouettes.
Just as Marcel lowered his telescope and prepared to leave, a loud splash echoed.
A massive shadow crashed into the ship, shattering it into pieces.
"Huh?"
Marcel stared intently through the telescope, and what he saw next was a gigantic fish emerging from the depths of the sea, swallowing a pirate whole.
"Is that a sea creature? Is it attacking them?"
Nearby, the captain raised an eyebrow at the sight.
Taking advantage of the sea creature devouring the pirate, Dominic attempted to escape on his ship, his plump figure quite conspicuous.
"Attack it, attack it!"
Marcel clenched his fists, repeatedly muttering under his breath.
Then, as if the sea creature had heard Marcel's thoughts, it charged toward Dominic and collided with his ship.
Dominic fell into the water and was soon pursued by Xiaqiu, who bit down hard on him.
"He's dead! Dominic is dead! This is wonderful!"
Marcel shouted excitedly, tears of joy glistening in the corners of his eyes.
The man who killed his father was dead, and this filled Marcel with immense excitement.
He had longed for revenge, to personally kill the one responsible, but he also understood that with his current strength, it would take him many years to achieve that.
Now that Dominic was dead, and he had witnessed the death himself, that was enough.
"Marcel, what are you doing? What happened?"
Marcel's words drew everyone's attention, and Jozef ran over, curious.
"Uncle Jozef, look over there."
Marcel pointed into the distance and handed the telescope to Jozef, who took it and gazed towards the horizon.

After killing Dominic, Xiaqiu did not stop his pursuit. He locked onto a pirate wielding twin daggers, who was sprawled on a piece of deck wood, continuously coughing up blood.
"And you."
Xiaqiu circled around and changed direction, charging toward him.
This man was Xiaqiu's hunting target; his strength was not weak and he was his second target.
"No, please!"
Leo weakly shouted, trying to escape, but the broken bones prevented him from moving.
"Ah."
With Leo's desperate scream, Xiaqiu crushed him and swallowed him whole before looking around.
The two strongest ones were devoured.
Xiaqiu looked around and saw two pirates swimming away in the distance, while three others lay on the deck, in terrible condition and barely alive.
However, the other pirates had either been eaten by their own or had been knocked overboard, falling into the sea.
"Eat them, give me a chance to escape."
Johnson quickly swam away, constantly praying that the sea creatures would target others, giving him a chance to survive.
When he saw Xiaqiu charging at him and fired a shot, he anticipated the attack and jumped into the water.
He was the only one among the twelve pirates who had not been hit by Xiaqiu and remained unharmed.
"You run fast, but your strength must not be."
From a distance, seeing another pirate get taken down by Xiaqiu, Johnson's eyes filled with despair. "Wasn't it you who shot me just now?" Xiaqiu thought as he flew closer in a hurry.
"Here it comes! Damn it, why are you chasing me?"
Feeling the figure closing in behind him, Johnson turned around and shouted desperately, "Let me go! Please spare me!"
But what answered him was a gaping maw that swallowed him whole.
"I hope you can provide me with some energy."
Xiaqiu snorted and turned to devour the two pirates lying on the deck. He ignored those sinking into the water and headed toward the distant Pirate Ship.
There, seven or eight more pirates were still floating.
Xiaqiu charged towards them, showing no attempt to conceal its form.
"The sea fish is coming, run!"
The pirates were in a panic, trying to escape, but it was futile.
One, two, three.
Xiaqiu devoured the pirates one by one, swallowing them whole and revealing a satisfied expression.
Fourteen pirates.
The man wielding the machete was stronger than the Moor it had previously consumed, while Colonel Bilido was slightly weaker.
As for the one with dual blades, their strength was on par with the Moor as well.
Adding in the others,
it was a bountiful harvest.
Xiaqiu opened its mouth wide and swam towards the Merchant Ship, waiting for Heat Flow to enhance its power.
...
"All of them... all of them were eaten."
Jozef stared blankly into the distance, his expression dazed.
That sea fish had wiped out the Pirate Crew; he had never witnessed such a scene before.
"It’s that sea fish."
"Marcel shouted excitedly, 'It's the sea creature that has been following us; it attacked the Dominique Pirate Crew and killed Dominic.'"
"That's impressive," Caver couldn't help but exclaim. "I never expected it to be less than twenty meters long and still capable of sinking a ship."
"It's coming over here, swimming toward us," Marcel cheered as he spotted the sea creature approaching.
"Quick, turn left thirty degrees and sail away with the wind. We need to escape from it," the captain said, glancing at the flag on the side of the ship. The wind direction was not aligned with their course, deviating by thirty degrees. Although they could still harness some power from it, the wind was not at its strongest.
"Why do we need to get away from it?" Marcel asked in confusion.
"It might attack us next," Jozef replied softly.
"But it has been following us for so long without attacking," Marcel pointed out from a distance.
"It may not have been hungry before," the captain said with concern. "Now that it has started feeding on all those pirates, it might very well attack us. We need to move."
As the captain spoke, the ship slightly adjusted its course to catch the strongest winds and began to leave.
However, even with the increased speed, they were still slower than Xiaqiu.
Xiaqiu rushed through the water, quickly closing in on the Merchant Ship.
"Heart Collision."
The captain shouted loudly, but in the next moment, Xiaqiu stopped, raised its body, and slowed down, quietly following the ship.
Heat Flow had appeared, and they needed to wait for the enhancement to finish.
Then, following the Merchant Ship, they headed towards the next island.
"Look, it didn't attack us."
On the Merchant Ship, Marcel seemed to feel validated as he excitedly shouted, "It has no intention of harming us at all."
Jozef asked with a puzzled expression, "Strange, why isn't it attacking us? Yet it attacked the pirates who raided us?"
"Hahaha, could it be avenging us?" boomed Caver, a burly figure.
"It must be that way."
Marcel beamed with a bright smile, leaned over the side of the ship, and called down towards the large black fish below, "Mr. Sea Fish, thank you for avenging us!"
"Hmm?"
Xiaqiu heard the voice from beneath the sea and couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
Avenge you?
My attack on the Pirate Crew has nothing to do with you; I simply wanted to feed.
You are thinking too much.
Suddenly, Xiaqiu turned sideways, its massive tail swishing upward, sending a surge of water flying into the air and splashing onto the people on the ship.
Splash!
The seawater splashed over everyone above, and they looked at their wet clothes, exchanging glances.
"Hahaha."
In the next moment, laughter erupted, filled with joy, happiness, and goodwill.
Hearing the laughter, Xiaqiu felt as if her actions had gained an additional layer of meaning beyond just feeding and killing.
But soon after, Xiaqiu snorted coldly, closed the nictitating membrane over her eyes, rolled her eyes, and slowly descended.
Boring humans.
