Chapter Twenty: Determination
If I can't avoid it, then I won't hide.
Facing the giant mouth of the opponent, Xiaqiu's gaze was cold and unyielding. Instead of retreating, he intensified his force and charged upward, colliding head-on.
Bang.
Xiaqiu's massive forehead collided with the Coelacanth's upper jaw.
Crack.
A fissure appeared on Xiaqiu's forehead, while the Coelacanth's upper jaw shattered completely.
Though the Coelacanth was large and powerful, its sudden turn to attack meant it hadn't built up enough momentum, and it had opened its mouth, focusing its strength on biting down.
In contrast, Xiaqiu charged directly into the attack with tremendous force.
Using his forehead as a battering ram, which had undergone several evolutions and grown immensely large, he struck with all his might.
The Coelacanth's upper jaw was relatively fragile.
With that blow, Xiaqiu shattered the Coelacanth's upper jaw, halting its offensive.
In that moment, both fish paused. Enduring the pain, Xiaqiu sprang into action. He rolled over sharply and dove downward like an airplane executing a barrel roll.
Then he surged forward beneath the Coelacanth and bit down hard on its Pectoral Fin.
Sizzle.
The Pectoral Fin on the left was bitten off by Xiaqiu and swallowed whole.
Without your fins, how can you escape?
At that moment, Xiaqiu noticed the Coelacanth's Pectoral Fin, where the fin connected to the Fish Body, had hard bones inside.
Crunch.
Xiaqiu crushed the Pectoral Fin. The Coelacanth turned to attack, but its body tilted slightly, unable to stabilize itself.
Xiaqiu flipped again and came to the other side of the Coelacanth, biting off its other Pectoral Fin.
With both Pectoral Fins gone, the fish would lose its balance.
The role of the Pectoral Fin was significant; it provided propulsion, helped balance and steer with other fins, and supported the head.
The Coelacanth tried to turn its body, but it swayed unsteadily from side to side, unable to maintain its form or launch an attack against Xiaqiu.
Crunch.
Xiaqiu bit directly into the Coelacanth's abdomen, tearing at it bite by bite.
The Coelacanth's body trembled as it tried to evade Xiaqiu's attacks, but it was helpless.
Blood flowed increasingly.
In an instant, a massive gaping wound appeared in the Coelacanth's abdomen.
Plop.
The Coelacanth once again struggled to stabilize itself, flipping sideways and plummeting into the depths of the water.
Thud.
The massive fish body of the Coelacanth crashed onto the seabed, stirring up clouds of sediment.
Xiaqiu nestled beside its body, gnawing at it, continuing to feast.
Now, this meal was at least over a ton, and it could consume up to two tons of food at once.
The weight of the Naval Colonel was far too light to fill its belly.
Xiaqiu swallowed large chunks of fish flesh, feeling a sense of fullness as it hollowed out the upper side of the Coelacanth.
That’s enough.
Xiaqiu stopped eating and glanced at the Coelacanth, a hint of mockery in its eyes.
You want to hunt me? You can only become my prey.
Xiaqiu chuckled coldly to itself as it swam away into the distance.
As Xiaqiu's figure disappeared, nearby fish slowly approached, gathering around the Coelacanth's carcass to feast on it.
...
It hurts so much.
Xiaqiu lay on the seabed, feeling the heat flow within its body altering its state, causing painful spasms.
If it were just Enhanced Energy, Xiaqiu could still endure it.
However, the Evolutionary Energy brought by the Coelacanth was equally powerful.
When the two types of energy manifested together, the pain doubled, making Xiaqiu feel as if his body was being torn apart.
The injured areas, especially the head, were engulfed in immense agony.
Xiaqiu knew that this transformation would ultimately make him stronger, so he gritted his teeth and endured the suffering.
After two hours, the Heat Flow finally dissipated.
He took a deep breath.
Xiaqiu slowly swam upward, but he noticed that the movements of his Pectoral Fin and Pelvic Fin were not very responsive.
What was happening?
In the past, when he controlled his Pectoral Fin, it would move effortlessly.
Now it felt as if there was an extension between his Pectoral Fin and his body.
Xiaqiu tried hard to fold his body, forming a semicircle, and from the side, he could see his Pelvic Fin clearly.
He noticed that between his Pelvic Fin and Fish Body, a chunk of muscle had grown, resembling limbs—thick but short, covered with layers of scales.
What was this?
Seeing the change in his Pectoral Fin, Xiaqiu realized it resembled the Pelvic Fin of the Coelacanth; however, this part of the Coelacanth was much longer than his own.
Had he consumed his own Pectoral Fin, devouring its flesh and blood, only to grow it back himself?
Xiaqiu felt no conflict regarding this part of his body.
The Lobed Fin Fish Class had relied on this very part of their anatomy to ascend to land and evolve into amphibians.
Could he continue to grow and eventually reach land?
That seemed unlikely.
His size and weight were too great; he could not support his body with fish fins alone. Even if he were to find other Coelacanths, growing ten times larger would still not provide the necessary support for such a body.
Moreover, he was continuously growing heavier, and the rapid pace of his growth would only make things more difficult in the future.
Relying on this newly developed slender limb to reach land was not very realistic.
However, the muscles that had developed at the base of his fins had changed Xiaqiu's control over them.
With muscular support from hard bones, he could now freely manipulate his fins, moving them forward and backward.
Previously, he had to directly control the fins by flapping them up and down; if he wanted to strike someone, he needed to turn and rotate his body to generate force.
Now, he could directly control this part of his body to move the fins up and down while simultaneously striking, although the force was still limited.
This new limb was still too short for his liking.
Xiaqiu was dissatisfied with its length.
He remembered that he had also shed the Pelvic Fin and both upper and lower lobes of the tail fin along with the Pectoral Fin.
Xiaqiu hurried toward the location of the Coelacanth, his mind filled with speculation about whether the group of fish had left anything for him.
Swish.
As Xiaqiu approached the Coelacanth, he noticed that many fish were tangled together, attacking one another nearby.
A multitude of fish had been drawn here to feed; some were consuming the Coelacanth, while others were lured into attacking each other.
Once the Coelacanth was completely devoured, the remaining fish began to turn on one another.
Xiaqiu's arrival startled these fish, and upon seeing his massive form, they scattered in all directions.
The largest fish was nearly ten meters long. Without him around, there would be few enemies left in this sea.
Watching the fish disperse, Xiaqiu felt a surge of power for the first time. He charged forward and bit down on the largest sea fish, crushing its rear half and swallowing it whole.
The upper body of the sea fish still twitched, but Xiaqiu had no intention of attacking further. Instead, he slowly dove down to search for its fins.
Some of the muscle at the base of the fins had been consumed, but the fins themselves remained intact, with two fins still completely whole.
Xiaqiu quickly moved in and crushed all the fins, swallowing them along with the tail fin.
It tasted terrible.
Xiaqiu muttered under his breath as he finished off the piece of sea fish he had bitten earlier. Feeling full, he decided to leave this place.
Not only did he intend to move away from the area, but Xiaqiu also planned to depart from Narl Village altogether.
He had killed two members of the Navy, one of whom was a colonel.
The previous Navy officer was dead; they had come here to hunt themselves.
With that Colonel dead, how could they allow themselves to leave?
Who would be the next to come here to hunt them down?
A Commodore? A Major General?
Even if it were just a Colonel from headquarters, they would still be nothing more than prey.
I must leave.
Xiaqiu made up their mind and began to think about the route for escape.
