Chapter Three: The World
Seeing the Naval Battleship, Xiaqiu felt something was off.
This three-masted battleship powered by sails had been completely obsolete in modern times; it could not possibly be used as a real battleship and could only exist as a model.
However, a one-to-one scale model of a Naval Battleship was something he had never even heard of, and it was unlikely anyone would be willing to create such a thing.
More importantly, a replica model could never sail on the sea or navigate between islands.
Xiaqiu sensed something was amiss and immediately swam toward the direction of the battleship.
The sailing battleship moved at a speed of about seven to ten knots, and this particular battleship had just left port; it wasn't moving quickly and was heading to Xiaqiu's left.
Thus, Xiaqiu angled his approach toward the battleship, exerting all his strength to swim as fast as he could.
He got closer.
Xiaqiu found himself only ten meters away from the battleship. Peering at the water's surface, he saw several figures on the ship.
These figures wore white hats with green lettering spelling "Navy" on them.
They were dressed in sleeveless white Navy uniforms with blue trim on the collars and blue neckerchiefs.
As for their lower bodies, from Xiaqiu's angle, he couldn't see them.
They were indeed dressed like Navy Soldiers from One Piece.
Xiaqiu attempted to get closer to the ship but found it strange that in his perception, the ship felt like water itself; it was not a ship at all.
Seastone.
Dr. Begabank placed the Seastone at the bottom of the ship, allowing the Sea Kings to perceive the Battleship as seawater, thus enabling it to traverse the Doldrums.
The function of Seastone is widely applicable; it affects not only the Sea Kings but even ordinary fish, which are also influenced by the Sea Kings.
Seastone truly exists.
Xiaqiu was filled with shock as he watched the Battleship slowly drift away, pausing for a few seconds before immediately submerging beneath the water's surface and swimming towards the harbor.
Upon entering the Harbor, Xiaqiu immediately spotted several sailboats docked within.
These sailboats were not larger than naval battleships, and some appeared quite old and worn, yet they were indeed wooden sailboats.
As a mode of transportation, they were certainly wooden sailboats.
Just like the sailboats he had seen when he first arrived in this world, these sailboats were not for commemoration or collection; they were genuinely used as means of transport.
Xiaqiu noticed that two figures were busy on one of the sailboats, so he slowly approached, hiding beneath the water's surface to listen quietly.
Fish have excellent hearing; although they lack external ears, they possess inner ears that can detect vibrations in the air to discern sounds.
Some fish can even pick up sound vibrations from several kilometers away in the sea and can distinguish their kind through sound.
The frequency at which fish receive sound is mostly similar to that of humans, with only a small portion exhibiting significant differences.
As Xiaqiu drew closer to the sailboat, he immediately heard the voices of two individuals.
"Finally left! These guys collect a hefty security fee from us every month under the guise of maintaining public order. But when it comes to pirate raids and we report them, they always arrive late."
"They always wait until after the pirates have plundered before showing up, then they defeat the pirates and claim whatever loot was taken."
"These Navy personnel are even harder to satisfy than pirates."
"That's not entirely true. With the Navy around, pirates only come occasionally and dare not kill. The Navy does have its uses."
"Have you seen today's newspaper? The Dragon People visited Goa Kingdom."
"Goa Kingdom? The most beautiful country in the East Blue. I really wish I could travel there."
"…"
Xiaqiu listened to the conversation between the two, feeling a deep shock within. The information conveyed was overwhelming, making it difficult for Xiaqiu to process everything at once.
First was the language; these people were speaking Japanese. Having studied in Sakurajima, Xiaqiu was now in their third year of university, and after spending four years there including preparatory school, their Japanese was quite proficient.
Then there was the content of their conversation. The mention of the Navy and pirates indicated that this world indeed had both. Just moments ago, the Navy had left after collecting security fees, meaning that the Naval Battleship that departed was not just a model or a display; it was a real Navy ship.
Next were Goa Kingdom and the Dragon People. Goa Kingdom was an important location in the One Piece world, where Sabo, Luffy, and Ace grew up.
The term "Dragon People" referred to the world nobles in the One Piece universe.
With the seagull and chess piece insignia of the Navy, unique battleships, and Seastone, along with Goa Kingdom and the Dragon People—these were all exclusive to the One Piece world.
All this evidence confirmed that Xiaqiu had indeed arrived in the One Piece universe.
Moreover, as a fish, their consumption rate, digestion level, and growth rate all aligned with the standards of their original world.
However, in a realm filled with enormous Sea Beasts and Sea Kings stretching over a thousand meters long, such growth rates were not particularly remarkable.
Xiaqiu had truly entered the world of One Piece.
Xiaqiu was extremely shocked, unable to believe that he had actually arrived in the world of One Piece.
However, compared to the bizarre situation of turning into a fish, entering the world of One Piece was not so hard to accept.
From their conversation, it seemed that the Dragon People were visiting Goa Kingdom.
Xiaqiu recalled that the Dragon People had visited Goa Kingdom during Sabo's departure. That year, Sabo was ten years old, Ace was ten, and Luffy was seven, which was in the year 151 of the Sea Circle Calendar.
But whether the Dragon People had visited Goa Kingdom at other times was uncertain. Given the grandeur of that welcoming ceremony and Goa Kingdom's respect for the Dragon People, it might have only happened that once.
Of course, whether this was indeed that time needed further investigation.
Xiaqiu felt very complicated about the world he found himself in.
He had turned into a fish and entered the world of One Piece.
Although One Piece was his favorite manga and he had a certain longing for such a magnificent world, if he were to be transported there, he would at least expect to have some other identity—like being Kong's adopted son, a dojo apprentice, or the son of a wealthy family.
But how did he end up as a fish?
He could evolve and grow stronger, but how strong could he really become?
It was important to remember that when Luffy first set sail, he had already defeated a Sea King.
And the Sea Beast Moo Moo, which was far larger than the Merry, stood no chance against Luffy.
Even a Nearshore Sea King was easily dealt with by Rayleigh.
In the world of One Piece, Sea Kings often serve merely as background figures.
Unless it is a Starfish summoning a deep-sea Sea King capable of dragging Noah's Ark, which is over five thousand meters long, they can compete at the highest levels of power.
However, becoming one of them is an uncertain endeavor, fraught with unknown dangers and an indeterminate amount of time required.
Xiaqiu yearned for adventure, to become part of One Piece, to explore alongside Luffy, to battle strong foes, to make a significant impact, to reach Raftel, to uncover the treasure left by Roger, and ultimately to become the strongest in the world.
But the challenges seemed insurmountable.
Perhaps it was best to let those dreams go.
Living a simple life would suffice.
Xiaqiu exhaled a stream of bubbles and slowly sank to the ocean floor.
