I shook my head. "Useless."
Liao Changting glared at me. "Do you dare say you haven't been moved?"
I cleared my throat. "Am I that kind of person?"
Liao Changting rolled her eyes. "Just keep pretending."
"Anyway, Su Muqing is mine, so don't try to steal her from me."
I forced a bitter smile, unable to say anything more. How could I tell you that Su Muqing is a guy? What would you think?
After the poetry session ended, Su Muqing secretly slipped me a small note.
I opened it to find the words: "This afternoon, meet me at the academy's medical hall."
I watched Su Muqing's departing figure, clutching the note tightly in my palm.
The afternoon class was calligraphy practice.
I had always enjoyed calligraphy. The teacher often praised me, saying my style had the essence of the Tang and Song dynasties.
But today, I found myself distracted repeatedly. Su Muqing's face kept appearing in my mind. Her gaze seemed to blame me for not responding to her feelings.
Finally, I made up my mind. I decided to accept Su Muqing's invitation.
The bell for class rang.
I stealthily made my way to the academy's medical hall.
Su Muqing was already waiting for me.
She waved at me. "Lin Changzhe, over here!"
I looked around to ensure no one was watching before stepping inside.
Su Muqing smiled lightly. "Lin Changzhe, I didn't expect you to actually come."
I cleared my throat. "What’s there to be afraid of?"
"Isn't it just skipping class?"
"I'm a good student; I've never skipped a class."
Su Muqing raised an eyebrow. "Then how did you bring me out?"
I grinned. "Just watch me."
Her beautiful eyes sparkled. "Then I'll be waiting."
I surveyed the surroundings. The academy had two gates: the main gate and the back gate. It was impossible to leave through either of them. The only way out was to climb over the wall.
The academy's walls were old and covered in vines. However, last year, the academy had expanded and built a new wall. At the junction of the old and new walls, there was just enough of a gap.
Anyone with a slim build could squeeze through.
I led Su Muqing quietly to the gap. I turned sideways and slipped out first, with Su Muqing following closely behind.
I took a moment to look at her. She was dressed in the academy's uniform; although it was feminine attire, she still carried an air of elegance and confidence.
Feeling my gaze, Su Muqing blushed slightly and lowered her eyes. "Where are we going?"
I countered with a question, "Where do you want to go?"
She pondered for a moment. "Anywhere, I just want to skip class."
I frowned, "No other plans?"
Su Muqing shook her head, "None."
I was speechless. I had been wondering if she was planning something dangerous. It seemed I had overthought it.
I tentatively suggested, "How about we go back?"
Su Muqing's beautiful eyes widened, "We've already skipped class; why go back now?"
I scratched my head, "Then what should we do?" If the teacher found out I had skipped class, I would definitely be punished with a hundred pages of copying. My classmates at the academy would also point fingers at me. They would think I was getting close to Su Muqing to pursue her.
I shivered at the thought. If Liao Changting found out, I would be in serious trouble.
Noticing my hesitation, Su Muqing suddenly spoke up, "How about we go to an inn and get a room?"
I stood there in shock, unable to move. "What?"
Su Muqing looked innocent, "Is there a problem?"
I swallowed hard, "No."
In the inn room, I was astonished. "You called me out just to tutor you in your studies?"
Su Muqing looked serious, "What else would it be?"
"I thought..."
