“Merchant Alliance?” Some were puzzled, while others exclaimed, “Ah, Merchant Alliance, as long as Merchant Alliance promises something, they will never go back on their word. We are saved, we are saved…!”
Seeing the trust the crowd had in Merchant Alliance, Qing Luan felt a slight sense of relief. If she claimed she could bring in a batch of food every few days, no one would believe her. It would require so much silver and manpower. But with Merchant Alliance, they believed it because Merchant Alliance was known for its integrity; once they made a promise, it was unchangeable.
After calming everyone down and unloading the items from the cart, the crowd willingly helped move everything to the shed.
In front of her were two pigs that were scared and spinning in circles. Qing Luan felt a few strands of hair fall onto her forehead, and her mouth twitched in exasperation.
“Cough, cough,” seeing the expression of confusion on her face, Qin'er said somewhat sheepishly, “Uncle Ma sent them over. He said your orders came too suddenly, and he was worried that the people here wouldn’t have enough to eat. So he gathered everyone to dig up the Sweet Potatoes and potatoes from the fields and brought over two pigs to improve our meals…”
She hadn’t wanted to do it, but couldn’t resist Uncle Ma’s persuasion and ended up obediently following his instructions.
Qin'er’s explanation left Qing Luan speechless once again.
“Uncle Ma means well,” seeing Qing Luan twitching her mouth and struggling to find words, Xuanyuan Rui found it amusing and stepped in to explain.
“I know, but… how do we take care of these?” They were already struggling to feed themselves; did they really need to feed pigs too?
“Kill them,” Xuanyuan Rui said without a hint of hesitation. “The villagers haven’t had meat in a while; maybe if they eat some, they’ll have more energy!”
“…” So simple!
Qing Luan had Old Man Lin find someone to slaughter the pigs. They killed one and kept the other. The children who had been quiet suddenly surrounded the pig slaughterer, their mouths watering…
“Can these… be eaten?” The women who came to help looked at the Sweet Potatoes, their eyes filled with doubt and hesitation.
"Who knows? She said if it can be eaten, then eat it. Hurry up and get to work; the men are waiting to eat before they can start working..."
Qing Luan had someone bring sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, which did not spark any other appetites. Instead, some people questioned her motives, suggesting she brought these items to harm them.
Qing Luan prepared different meals: for the children and the elderly, she made thin porridge with sweet potatoes slowly cooked until it became thick and soft. For those working, she served whole steamed sweet potatoes and potatoes to ensure they wouldn't get hungry while laboring.
Faced with the crowd's questions, Qing Luan did not explain much. Instead, she took out a steaming sweet potato, peeled it in front of everyone, and ate it herself. Then she coldly remarked, "If you don't want to eat, then get lost. I have no obligation to help you. If you want to live or die, that's your own business!" These people really thought they could push her around.
When Qing Luan finally lost her temper, it was more frightening than Xuanyuan Rui; everyone in the town fell silent and dared not utter another word.
"How sweet!" A child secretly tasted a piece and exclaimed joyfully.
Upon hearing the child's words, everyone felt they couldn't delay any longer, fearing there would be nothing left to eat.
"Qing Luan, you really didn't have to do this," Xuanyuan Rui said, watching her work hard while being misunderstood and insulted; his heart ached for her.
"Let me lean on you for a moment," she said wearily as she nestled into his embrace, rubbing her temples. "I just want to feel at peace with myself!" Moreover, she didn't want to face Qiu Mingqi in the capital. If the things from Jade Pavilion fell into his hands, she would rather leave them for the refugees here.
"You silly girl!" He gently ruffled her hair and held her tighter.
Li Yunluo watched the two embracing from a distance, jealousy flashing in her eyes but quickly masked.
"Miss Li," Qing Luan called out cheerfully upon noticing Li Yunluo nearby.
"Miss," Li Yunluo said to her and Xuanyuan Rui, appearing quite obedient, without the sharp tongue she usually had, looking innocent and pure. "Is there anything you need?"
Seeing her innocent demeanor, Qing Luan couldn't help but scoff internally: You can keep your innocence to yourself; you seem utterly foolish in my eyes. If it weren't for wanting to uncover your intentions, I would have told you to get lost long ago.
"I'm just here to remind you that those supplies are meant to save lives. Don't make any mistakes, or you'll be the one to answer for it!" She made her purpose clear without any hesitation.
"Uh!?" Li Yunluo didn't expect her to say that. A flicker of coldness crossed her eyes, but she quickly turned to Xuanyuan Rui with a look of grievance, timidly saying, "Why would you say that? Although I haven't been with you for long, I haven't done anything wrong. I've done everything I was supposed to!"
Damn it, what does this woman mean? She followed me here solely for Xuanyuan Rui, yet this guy spends all his time with Xuanyuan Rui, leaving me with no chance at all. It's infuriating!
"Because I don't trust you!" Qing Luan's tone became even more impolite as she saw Li Yunluo acting coyly towards Xuanyuan Rui.
"If you don't trust me, then it's better for me to leave," Li Yunluo said, putting on a show of being wronged. However, it didn't reach her heart; she still looked so fake, oblivious to it herself.
"Then go ahead. I'd rather not be on edge," Qing Luan replied, trying to take a step back but regretting that she wasn't a man.
"Why do you treat me this way?" Li Yunluo asked. What kind of heart did this woman have? So kind to those refugees but so ruthless towards herself.
Xuanyuan Rui, can't you see what kind of person she is? Are you really that heartless too?
"Qin'er has been by my side for many years; we share a bond of life and death. As for you... you're nothing. So if you want to stay, you'd better keep an eye on those supplies. If anything goes wrong, you'll be the first one to pay!" Some things are better left unsaid; it's more straightforward to lay it all out there—this way, she might actually have some reservations.
"What if someone else makes a mistake?" Li Yunluo challenged.
"That's your fault too!" Qing Luan's mischievous demeanor made Xuanyuan Rui chuckle, and his gaze softened as he looked at her.
"Yes! I'll keep an eye on it, I absolutely won't make a mistake!" With no other choice, she gritted her teeth and agreed.
Seeing her agreement, Xuanyuan Rui turned to leave with Qing Luan, leaving Li Yunluo to shoot a venomous glare at Qing Luan, but she seemed completely unfazed.
" Luan'er, is this really okay?" He understood her intentions but feared that things might backfire.
"Her goal is you. If she doesn't achieve it, she won't leave, so there’s no way the food will go wrong!" She appeared very confident about this.
"What exactly does she want from me?" Xuanyuan Rui was puzzled by this question. "If she wanted to kill me, I've given her the chance, yet she's never shown any killing intent..."
Seeing Xuanyuan Rui's troubled expression, Qing Luan couldn't help but smirk at his cluelessness. This guy had completely overlooked Li Yunluo's predatory gaze, which was filled with determination; otherwise, he wouldn't be pondering like this.

Midnight... My mind is still in chaos. Everyone should take care of their health and not end up like me, feeling so dazed that I don't even know who I am.
