Duan Wei was stunned, his eyes wide open.
I closed my eyes, tears streaming down my cheeks. "I know my physical condition isn't great."
"Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization might be very painful..."
"But I don't want you to have regrets."
"I want to give you a child."
"Even if there are risks, I'm willing to try."
After seeing the doctor, we learned that my health wasn't good, and I needed some time to recuperate.
The words "preparing for pregnancy" were temporarily set aside.
On the way back, I took Duan Wei to a milk tea shop.
I ordered a new drink, and he frowned slightly. "You should drink less of this kind of beverage."
"It's unhealthy."
I blinked and held the straw up to his lips. "Then you help me taste it. Is it good?"
How could Duan Wei taste it?
He pushed my hand away. "You drink it yourself."
"No way," I insisted. "You have to take a sip!"
With no other choice, Duan Wei lowered his head and took a sip from the straw.
"How is it?" I asked.
He nodded. "Not bad."
Behind us, I heard a conversation between a young couple.
"Wow, that brother and sister look so sweet."
"Really, I want to date a brother and sister too."
I turned around to glance at them and couldn't help but laugh.
Duan Wei noticed too; he pinched my cheek gently and said, "Let's go home."
Duan Wei had to go to a meeting at the company and couldn't accompany me home. He initially wanted to drive me back, but I insisted on refusing, so he had no choice but to get in his car and leave. I prepared to walk back to school by myself.
Earlier at the tea shop, I hadn't lied to Duan Wei. I genuinely wanted to have a child with him. However, my mind was in turmoil, and I needed to sort through my thoughts. As I walked along the road, feeling the breeze, my head began to clear.
Suddenly, a voice called out beside me. "Bingxin."
I stopped in my tracks and turned my head. It was Lin Yifeng.
"What do you want this time?" I asked coldly, looking at him.
He placed a large box in front of me. "These are all the things you used to give me; I've kept them..."
"Now, I'm returning them to you."
I lowered my gaze to the box. Inside lay a crystal ball, a bracelet, a diary, and a photograph. These items were all gifts I had given him during high school. Back then, my family was relatively well-off, and I often sent him various presents. But what about him? After graduating from high school, he took that money and ventured into business for himself.
He failed in his entrepreneurial efforts and ended up deep in debt. So he came to me, asking for a job.
I felt sorry for him and had Duan Wei arrange a driver position for him. Little did I expect he would repay my kindness with betrayal!
"Take it away," I said. "Don't ever show up in front of me again."
"Otherwise, I'll call the police on you."
Lin Yifeng's face turned pale. "Bingxin, I..."
"Get lost!"
Lin Yifeng was startled by my words and hurriedly ran off, clutching his box.
A security guard approached and quietly asked, "Professor Xu, are you alright?"
I shook my head. "I'm fine, thank you."
The guard left.
I watched Lin Yifeng flee in a panic, a cold smile creeping onto my lips. I knew Lin Yifeng wouldn't just appear at the school gate for no reason. This was all part of Duan Wei's scheme.
As for his intentions...
I took out my phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, is this a private detective agency?"
"I'd like to hire you to keep an eye on someone."
