Ye Xiaohan had seen Luo Jingxian in pain, and it was a sight that left a deep shadow in her life.
Was it really a good thing to remember? If it was something her subconscious had chosen to forget, would it be better to let it remain forgotten, allowing her to live a happier life in the future?
These were not decisions she could make; perhaps Luo Jingxian would suddenly recall everything later on. Fortunately, with Lo Cheng by her side and returning to the familiar comforts of home surrounded by family and friends, even if the journey was tough, Ye Xiaohan believed that Luo Jingxian would find the strength to overcome it.
Under the care of Ye Xiaohan and the Imperial Physician, the Emperor sent a large quantity of medicinal herbs, tossing them at Lo Cheng without concern for cost. Most of Lo Cheng's injuries were external; although they looked severe, they would heal quickly.
Every day, he seemed to recover at a visible pace.
Liu Chancellor also came to visit the two esteemed members of royalty during this time.
"Chancellor Liu has come today as well; please take a seat," Ye Xiaohan greeted, standing up to offer Liu Chancellor her chair.
Liu Chancellor did not decline and sat down, smiling as he said, "Miss Ye truly has a miraculous touch; His Highness looks much better. I believe he will recover soon."
Ye Xiaohan thought Liu Chancellor was worried about Lo Cheng missing the audience with the Emperor and quickly reassured him, "Rest assured, sir. His Highness only needs to rest quietly; his daily activities are fine now, and he can meet with the Emperor at any time."
"That's good to hear." Liu Chancellor stayed for only a short while before leaving; as Chancellor, he had many matters awaiting his attention.
Ye Xiaohan and Gu Bei escorted him to the door, and Ye Xiaohan felt somewhat emotional.
"Liu Chancellor is so dedicated; despite being so busy, he insists on coming every day to check in. The position of Chancellor is certainly not an easy one!" The saying that a Chancellor runs until their legs break when summoned by the Emperor was indeed fitting.
Gu Bei frowned slightly, uncertain as he remarked, "I think it's not just because of the Emperor's orders. Don't you feel that Liu Chancellor shows an unusual enthusiasm for Prince Luo and Your Highness?"
Ye Xiaohan was not familiar with Liu Chancellor, but Gu Bei had worked alongside him for many years. From the information Gu Bei had gathered, Liu Chancellor was definitely not someone who displayed warmth towards others.
Even now, as Gu Bei had become a prominent figure before the Emperor, he had not seen Liu Chancellor visit him every day.
"How can you even compare yourself to the patients?" Ye Xiaohan scoffed. "They are foreign friends who were injured within Dongchuan. The Emperor must show a positive attitude, otherwise, if this blows up, it could become an international issue!"
Gu Bei, piecing together her words, realized she had a point.
Later, when Liu Chancellor arrived, Gu Bei observed closely and found that there really seemed to be no difference. He reported his findings to Ye Xiaohan, only to be met with her merciless laughter.
"It's just your imagination," Ye Xiaohan said, pulling out a translucent jade bottle from her pocket and shaking the liquid inside. With a mischievous smile directed at Gu Bei, she added, "Here, let me wash your eyes; I guarantee you'll have keen eyesight from now on!"
Gu Bei took a step back and quickly refused. "No thanks, I think it's fine as it is."
Having been caught by Ye Xiaohan before for eye and ear cleaning, Gu Bei found it far more distressing than any torture from an enemy.
Five hours passed in a flash, and it was time to meet with the Envoy Group as previously arranged. The Envoy Group had already arrived in the capital. As an important member, Lo Cheng certainly should not remain at home.
However, a major problem lay before Lo Cheng: Luo Jingxian stubbornly refused to accompany him to the Palace of the Empress, where the Emperor had arranged temporary accommodations for the Envoy Group.
"Princess, what's wrong with going with your brother?" Lo Cheng coaxed gently. "After all the hardships we've faced to finally meet, don't you want to stay with him?"
A flicker of uncertainty crossed Luo Jingxian's eyes as she gazed affectionately at Lo Cheng. But in the next moment, she shook her head.
No matter how Lo Cheng persuaded her, Luo Jingxian remained resolute. Eventually, she hid behind Ye Xiaohan, lowering her head and ignoring everyone.
"This..." Ye Xiaohan was at a loss for what to do; Luo Jingxian was currently struggling mentally, and no one could help her.
In the end, it was Lo Cheng who compromised.
"Miss Ye, since the Princess refuses to leave with me, she may need to stay here and trouble you a bit longer," Lo Cheng turned to Ye Xiaohan and said. "I hope you can take care of her for a few more days."
Ye Xiaohan agreed. "Don't worry; she'll be comfortable here with me."
Lo Cheng smiled, "Of course, I trust Miss Ye's careful attention to the Princess."
The emperor's envoy had been urging him, so Lo Cheng couldn't delay. After bidding farewell to everyone, especially giving specific instructions to Luo Jingxian, he set off alone for the Palace of the Empress.
Ye Xiaohan watched Lo Cheng's departing figure and then glanced at Luo Jingxian, who clearly showed signs of reluctance. She felt a bit puzzled.
"Your royal brother has already left," she said softly to Luo Jingxian. "Your Highness, didn't you get along well with him? Why don't you want to go with him?"
Luo Jingxian's feelings for Lo Cheng were deeper than anyone else's among them. Logically, she should have been eager to follow him.
When asked, Luo Jingxian merely swept her gaze over Ye Xiaohan before turning away and returning to her courtyard, sitting on her designated stool in a daze.
It seemed that no further questions would yield answers. Ye Xiaohan didn't expect Luo Jingxian to clarify everything immediately, so she didn't dwell on it.
After all, taking care of Luo Jingxian was something she and her six siblings had become quite adept at; spending a little more time on it was no problem.
Once she settled things at home, Ye Xiaohan headed to the tavern. She needed to balance the accounts first and then take a stroll to see if there were suitable shops where she could advance her plans for opening a branch.
However, before she could finish half of her calculations, an unexpected guest arrived at the tavern.
"This is the tavern? Praised to the skies, but... I thought it would be much better than this; it's nothing special."
As soon as the newcomer stepped inside, they dismissed the tavern with a 'just average' remark.
Ye Xiaohan recognized that familiar voice and felt a headache coming on.
How did Shangyang Princess end up outside? The palace is heavily guarded and doesn't allow people to come and go freely! Guards at the palace gate, your security work is seriously lacking!
These two siblings were typical brats; if it weren't for their noble status, others would have long since lost their patience and probably dealt with them harshly.
"Dear guest, what would you like to eat? Our restaurant has everything!" The waiter, having encountered many rude customers before, paid no mind to the cold remarks and immediately began recommending the restaurant's specialty dishes to the Shangyang Princess.
"Wait, you're a woman..." The eyes of the Shangyang Princess widened slightly. She had seen many palace maids, but this was her first encounter with a female waiter.
Realizing that her surprise might make her seem inexperienced and be looked down upon, the Shangyang Princess discreetly stole a glance at Ye Xiaohan, fearful that she might inadvertently reveal her astonishment.
Seeing that Ye Xiaohan had not noticed her slip of the tongue, she quickly perked up and waved her hand with an air of authority. "Bring me a portion of everything you just mentioned!"
"Guest, that's a total of twenty-eight dishes. Do you want them all?" The supporting actress looked at the Shangyang Princess's somewhat slender frame with confusion. "Are there other guests joining you?"
The Shangyang Princess raised her willow-like brows defiantly. "No! This prince can finish it all by himself! Why are you talking so much? I'm the guest; when a guest asks for food, you bring it! Hurry up!"
"Alright then!" Since the guest had made such a request, there was no reason not to fulfill it.
Ye Xiaohan had actually been listening to the entire conversation from the side. The Shangyang Princess had spoken quite loudly; even if she wanted to ignore it, she couldn't.
This brat really knew how to stir up trouble without picking a busy time. Breakfast was already over, and lunch was still far off. With so few customers in the restaurant, it hardly created the best opportunity to tarnish its reputation.
Watching the Shangyang Princess proudly touch her hair styled into a scholar's bun while waiting for her maid to wipe down the chair before sitting down made Ye Xiaohan shake her head in disbelief.
With such an obvious disguise as a man, where did she get all this confidence?
