Liu Susu made a grand entrance to confront Ye Xiaohan, eager to witness her panic and distress.
However, to her surprise, Ye Xiaohan remained completely composed and even fought back with sharp retorts. This left Liu Susu unable to accept the situation, and she instantly erupted in fury.
Yet, Ye Xiaohan was entirely indifferent to Liu Susu's anger.
"What's that got to do with Madam Gu?" Ye Xiaohan shot back. "If Gu Bei is willing to do something for me, that's his choice; I never forced him."
"Oh," Ye Xiaohan said, as if a thought struck her. She looked at Liu Susu with disdain and added, "Maybe Gu Bei actually enjoys this! If someone keeps pressuring him, they might just find themselves kicked out!"
Everyone knew about Liu Susu's multiple attempts to visit the General's residence only to be thrown out each time. Naturally, Liu Susu thought of this immediately, her face flushing crimson.
The deep red of her face contrasted sharply with her bright rouge, making her look as if she were about to explode.
"Ye! Xiao! Han!" Liu Susu shouted. "Now that Gu Bei is dead, no one can support you anymore. You better think twice before you speak! With my family's power, it would be a piece of cake to get rid of you!"
Ye Xiaohan elegantly gestured invitingly, provocatively gazing at Liu Susu. "I hope Madam Gu can keep her heart in check; it would be a shame if Lady Liu found out and had to spend another year in confinement!"
"That's impossible!" Liu Susu shouted defiantly. "Gu Bei is dead; how can you remain so calm?"
Ye Xiaohan sneered. "Perhaps it's because I live honestly, unlike Madam Gu, who is so twisted in mind and revels in others' misfortunes!"
Seeing Ye Xiaohan's cold demeanor, it became clear that the pain and despair she had hoped to see on her face would never materialize. Filled with rage, Liu Susu stormed off with a large group of subordinates.
She dared not cause a scene in public; if word got back to Liu Manor, she would surely face consequences.
After watching Liu Susu leave from the second-floor window for a long time, Ye Xiaohan maintained her stance, unmoving until Liu Susu's figure disappeared at the end of the road.
In the next moment, as if all the strength had been drained from her body, Ye Xiaohan nearly collapsed, leaning against the wall and slowly kneeling on the ground.
The calm demeanor she had displayed in front of Liu Susu was merely an act to conceal her inner turmoil. In truth, by the time Liu Susu had spoken halfway, she had already believed half of what was said.
The timing of Liu Susu's night raid coincided with the moment Gu Bei sent his letter.
That is to say, after finishing the letter to Ye Xiaohan, Gu Bei would officially charge into battle the very next day.

Ye Xiaohan sat on the ground in a daze for an unknown amount of time until a force began to shake her, and a voice called out to her. Gradually, she came back to her senses.
"Sister-in-law, are you okay? Wake up!"
Ye Xiaohan focused her gaze and realized it was Liu Yang who had rushed in.
Seeing Ye Xiaohan finally regain her composure, Liu Yang let out a sigh of relief. "Sister-in-law, that woman has already left. What did she say?"
What could have been said that left Ye Xiaohan so distraught?
In Liu Yang's memory, Ye Xiaohan was always vibrant and full of life; she never exhibited such unusual emotions.
It was as if Ye Xiaohan suddenly snapped back to reality. She grabbed Liu Yang urgently, her tone frantic and nearly incomprehensible. "Gu Bei! Gu Bei is in trouble!"
"What?" Liu Yang was taken aback and pressed for details. "What happened? Didn't he just send a letter a couple of days ago? How could it suddenly..."
He finally reacted, angrily saying, "Is it that woman's doing? Sister-in-law, don't believe her. She can't stand to see others happy and wants to break you apart, making you miserable too! This is all part of that woman's scheme; you mustn't trust her!"
Ye Xiaohan soon felt as if the power had been cut off, collapsing back down and murmuring to herself, "I know, I know this is true. Gu Bei... he really is in trouble!"
Ye Xiaohan had a gut feeling that this incident was indeed real. She had never felt such unease before.
Considering the timeline, it was very likely that Gu Bei had been captured the very day he was writing to her. By the time the letter reached Ye Xiaohan, Gu Bei was already undergoing severe torture at the hands of the Bandits.
Those Bandits had defeated even the regular army several times; they certainly had their own skills. It wasn't impossible for Gu Bei to have let his guard down and been caught, not fully grasping the local situation.
"What should I do? What should I do?" It wasn't until the feeling of urgency spread throughout her body, occupying all her senses, that Ye Xiaohan realized just how much she cared for Gu Bei.
"If something really happened to him, if he could never come back... what would I do?" Tears welled up in Ye Xiaohan's eyes at the thought of such a possibility, as if a large piece of her heart had been brutally ripped out, bleeding profusely.
Six Yang had been trying to comfort her, believing this was merely Liu Susu's scheme to make Ye Xiaohan heartbroken. However, Ye Xiaohan was already deeply immersed in her pain and couldn't hear anything else.
At this point, Ye Xiaohan completely lost interest in business and hazily returned home.
"I want to be alone for a while."
Once she got home, perhaps due to the familiar surroundings calming her slightly, she gradually regained some composure. However, this clarity of mind did not ease her suffering at all.
After leaving just one sentence behind, Ye Xiaohan locked herself in her room and never opened the door again.
Six Yang leaned against the door, but there was no sound from inside.
"Second Brother, will Sister-in-law be okay?" Six Qi looked worriedly at the door. She had been frightened by Ye Xiaohan earlier; when she first came in, Ye Xiaohan's face had been terrifyingly pale.
She felt dazed, like a translucent ghost.
Liang Yang had a shadow of gloom in his eyes, but he still patted Liu Qi's head and said, "Nothing will happen!"
He couldn't believe it. His older brother was so powerful that he could defeat even the enemy's army; how could he possibly be defeated by a few bandits? There was no way he could be captured!
These were all lies concocted by Liu Susu to deceive his sister-in-law!
In order to expose Liu Susu's scheme and resolve Ye Xiaohan's worries, Liang Yang used the methods taught to him by Gu Bei and managed to contact the confidants left behind by Gu Bei.
However, the news he received from the confidants left him in shock.
"You mean... my brother really has been captured?" Liang Yang asked in disbelief, confirming it several times.
Given Gu Bei's orders, these confidants had no reason to hide anything from Liang Yang. They were willing to follow his commands and promptly shared the information they had received.
"It has been confirmed; the news is true. We are currently planning a rescue for the general." The confidants appeared busy, and after answering Liang Yang's questions, they quickly took their leave.
Liang Yang was left standing there in a daze for quite some time.
Afterward, he didn't even know how he made it back home, stumbling along aimlessly until he finally came to his senses in front of his house.
He hesitated at the door for a long time, unsure of how to convey this news to Ye Xiaohan.
As it turned out, Ye Xiaohan didn't come out until midnight, leaving Liang Yang feeling both relieved and deeply worried.
The next morning, Liang Yang waited in the dining hall with Liu Qi, who had woken up early for once, for Ye Xiaohan to arrive.
"Sister-in-law!" As soon as Ye Xiaohan approached, Liu Qi immediately twisted her body and climbed down from the chair, sticking close to Ye Xiaohan.
Ye Xiaohan reached out to pat her head and said, "Why are you up so early today, little lazybug? Are you hungry?"
Liu Qi quietly observed Ye Xiaohan's expression and noticed that the ghost-like sister-in-law from yesterday had vanished; the person before her now was the usual sister-in-law.
So she quickly cheered up. "Yes! I'm hungry! Let's eat breakfast together!"
She tugged at Ye Xiaohan's hand and walked toward the dining table.
Ye Xiaohan's demeanor was calm. Although her face was still a bit pale, overall, she seemed to be fine.
Liu Yang was somewhat surprised. What had happened overnight that allowed Ye Xiaohan to forget the sorrow of Gu Bei's capture?
The lost look from yesterday seemed to have never existed.
However, Liu Yang didn't dare to ask. He feared that if he opened his mouth, Ye Xiaohan would revert to how she was yesterday.
Yet Ye Xiaohan acted as if nothing had happened. Just like every other morning, she finished breakfast and even helped Liu Qi with her food.
It was just like any other ordinary morning.
