The emperor's belief or disbelief was irrelevant; what mattered was that as long as the seed of doubt existed, a rift would form between them. The longer time passed, the wider that rift would grow.

Liu Susu suddenly smiled and leisurely said, "Oh dear, I was just chatting away and forgot to tell you something important!"
She decided to play her last card; with this revelation, Ye Xiaohan would undoubtedly feel heartbroken and disappointed, perhaps even weeping uncontrollably!
"Actually, I've never mentioned this to you," Liu Susu paused dramatically, a smug expression on her face as she feigned regret. "I had a prior engagement with Brother Gu Bei."
Liu Susu sighed and continued, "Although many things happened afterward, it was all just misfortune. We had a good relationship in the past. Miss Ye, now that you are with him, please take good care of Brother Gu Bei. After all, he has lost so much; it's truly pitiful."
She spoke as if Gu Bei were her personal possession, intending for Ye Xiaohan to hear and feel jealous of her past with Gu Bei. She hoped Ye Xiaohan would become envious and cause trouble—ideally enough to annoy Gu Bei and drive them apart!
Unfortunately, she was destined to be disappointed. Gu Bei had previously been frightened into revealing everything about his past after a confrontation with Ye Xiaohan, including his betrothal to Liu Susu.
This kind of loveless arranged marriage was something Ye Xiaohan could not accept; it simply did not align with the basic values of modern people!
So after Liu Susu finished boasting, she found no trace of gloom on Ye Xiaohan's face, only the same annoying expression that Liu Susu had come to despise.
"Why aren't you angry at all?"
Liu Susu was anxious; this was something she had worked hard to come up with. In her expectations, there was no way Ye Xiaohan could remain so calm upon hearing this news!
Ye Xiaohan shrugged. "I told you long ago that there was nothing ambiguous between us; it's all a misunderstanding on your part. Whether he has a fiancée or not has nothing to do with me."
"However," Ye Xiaohan added, "while it doesn't concern me, if others hear this, they might think that after marrying, the lady still has some unresolved issues with her previous man. That could lead to trouble!"
In this era, adultery was a serious crime, and those caught in such affairs faced severe punishment!
Liu Susu was furious. This bitch dared to speak so recklessly! Although she had indeed considered rekindling her feelings for Gu Bei, how could it be anything so sordid?
Moreover, as a noble young lady born into privilege, why should she be humiliated by a bitch like this?
"Ye Xiaohan, don’t slander me!" Liu Susu exclaimed angrily. "I have no shameful relationship with Gu Bei! On the contrary, don’t think that your clever arguments will fool me; you and Gu Bei are the ones in that kind of relationship!"
She sneered. "My father is the Chancellor. This case involving Gu Bei is under my father's jurisdiction! Ye Xiaohan, now you understand, only I can help Gu Bei; only my Liu Family can support the Gu Family! And you? You are nothing!"
Liu Susu brought up the Chancellor to try and force Ye Xiaohan to back down. What she did not expect was that instead of instilling fear in Ye Xiaohan, it only led her to question Liu Susu's intelligence.
The case involved individuals of great importance, personally entrusted and supervised by the Emperor. Liu Chancellor, as the Emperor's confidant, could not possibly favor Gu Bei for the sake of his daughter's personal feelings, unless his mind was as twisted as his daughter's.
"Is that so?" Ye Xiaohan said mockingly, her expression calm. "Women have limited experience and haven't encountered such a formidable Chancellor before. Perhaps Madam Gu should return home and discuss with your father how to become as influential as you, able to turn the tides."
Liu Susu had exhausted all her trump cards, yet Ye Xiaohan remained unassailable. She found herself out of options; staying any longer would only lead to another embarrassing defeat.
Rather than being driven away, it was better for her to leave on her own accord, preserving a shred of dignity.
"Ye Xiaohan, don't get too smug. I will make you cry and apologize to me!"
Before leaving, Liu Susu couldn't help but throw down a parting threat.
Ye Xiaohan barely had the energy to roll her eyes. Did this person truly embrace her role as the villain? Why did she always have to deliver a villainous line before departing?
Having successfully sent away a troublesome presence, Ye Xiaohan hurried back to the inner courtyard where a pile of matters awaited her attention, having already wasted precious time.
On her way back, Liu Susu changed her mind. Instead of returning to Gu Rong's residence, she instructed the coachman to head towards Liu Manor.
Upon entering, Liu Susu seized a maid and inquired about Liu Chengye's whereabouts before making a beeline for the study.
"Dad, you must stand up for your daughter!"
Before she even stepped through the door of the study, she choked up outside, stumbling inside and standing before Liu Chancellor in tears.
Liu Chancellor was reviewing the materials related to the Gu Bei case sent by various departments when he was suddenly interrupted by his daughter. He knew his daughter's temperament well; despite her dramatic tears, it was uncertain who was truly at fault.
"Stop crying and making a scene. What kind of behavior is this?" Liu Chancellor scolded. "You are already married; why are you still acting like a child? You haven't matured at all!"
"Dad! I've been bullied to this extent, and you still want to side with outsiders against me?" Liu Susu cried.
Seeing that she genuinely seemed more upset than usual, Liu Chancellor began to worry and asked, "What happened? Who upset you? Was it Gu Rong again? Did you two have another argument?"
Since his daughter got married, she often returned home after quarreling with her husband, which troubled Liu Chancellor. As a father, he hoped for his daughter to live a harmonious life.
"This time it wasn't him," Liu Susu said, quickly soaking a handkerchief with her tears before taking a new one from the maid. "This time it was his brother, Gu Bei!"
Liu Chancellor was taken aback. "How did you get involved with him? I've warned you so many times not to associate with Gu Bei! You are married to Gu Rong now; your relationship with him should only be that of an uncle and sister-in-law!"
"I didn't!" Liu Susu defended herself. "I didn't want to rekindle anything with him; I'm not that kind of shameless woman! It was Gu Bei who believed the slander from the woman he’s seeing outside. She insulted me in front of him, which is why he has an issue with me!"
Liu Chancellor said angrily, "No matter what he does outside, it has nothing to do with you anymore, and it's not something you should involve yourself in! Just promise me that you won't see Gu Bei again or have any dealings with him!"
"What about what I suffered at their hands? Should I just let it go?"
Liu Susu was unwilling; she needed those two to pay for their actions.
Liu Chancellor sighed in exasperation. "Why are you so stubborn! The Gu Bei case is serious; he's in a precarious situation right now, and anyone associated with him will be dragged into it! Do you want to be taken in for questioning by the Ministry of Justice?"
