Liu Yang was both angry and a bit sad. "Aunt, why did you do this? If you had been straightforward from the beginning, how could we not help? Why are you secretly eyeing the Liu family? Aren't we family?"
Liu Wen, caught in her deception, quickly tried to salvage the situation. "Liu Yang, Liu Bei, please let me explain. I never intended to take the Liu family's property. Your uncle's business failed, and we were being chased by creditors at home. We had no choice but to come to your house. We were afraid you would look down on us, so we kept it a secret."
Her words sounded sincere, but Liu Yang quickly exposed her lies.
"Aunt, even now you’re still deceiving us! I've heard from others that you’re in cahoots with those debt collectors. Once you get your hands on the Liu family's assets, you'll pay them back! You came to our house with ulterior motives!"
Liu Yang unreservedly laid bare Liu Wen's intentions.
He could not let anyone who posed a threat to the Liu family go unpunished. This family was his most treasured possession, and he would never allow anyone to destroy it!
Ye Xiaohan patted Liu Yang's head. This fool had genuinely thought of Liu Wen as a kind aunt; now that he knew the truth, he was more hurt than anyone else.
With things escalating like this and Liu Wen and her husband’s intentions laid bare, they could no longer argue against the evidence. Yet no matter how coldly the Liu family treated them, they insisted on staying.
"Liu Bei, have some pity on us! If we go back like this, those people will never let us go! They are ruthless; last time they threatened that if we didn't pay up soon, they would cut off one of your uncle's fingers! You can't just stand by and watch your uncle get harmed!"
Liu Wen clung tightly to Liu Bei. She could see that among them, only Liu Bei still had a soft heart; Liu Yang had already grown to hate them. As for Ye Xiaohan, she would be more than happy to see them meet a grim fate!
Ye Xiaohan watched the drama unfold. Liu Wen was quite something; even in such dire circumstances, she still shamelessly wanted to stay. Wouldn't she feel uncomfortable if she actually managed to stay?
Liu Wen and her husband continued pleading with Liu Bei. "We know we were wrong; we shouldn't have plotted against the Liu family's property. Liu Bei, please believe us; we truly regret it. If you let us stay for a little while longer to avoid those debt collectors, we will leave immediately afterward!"
To show their supposed remorse, Liu Wen and her husband personally sent the sobbing Yang Juanjuan back home in a carriage, paying the fare and instructing the driver to take her home safely.
With their desperate pleas, Liu Bei found it hard to maintain his stern demeanor and decided to leave everything to Ye Xiaohan. As long as she deemed it appropriate, he could accept it.
With no other choice, Liu Wen and her husband had to swallow their anger and plead with Ye Xiaohan. Her original intention was for Liu Bei to see these relatives' true colors; as long as he understood their nature, she wouldn't push them too far and would give him some face.
"Since Aunt and Uncle are in this situation, our family won't turn a blind eye. You can stay with us temporarily. However, let me make it clear: this is just a temporary arrangement. We're family after all; we won’t charge you rent. Uncle should quickly find a new job and pay off your debts."
Ye Xiaohan took this opportunity to shut down any potential arguments from Liu Wen later on. She planned for a maximum of one month; if by then Yang Hua still hadn't managed to gather enough money to repay his debts, she would help them cover some interest to buy more time—but they absolutely could not remain in the Liu household.
In addition, there was another house. Originally, Liu Wen and her husband had chosen a house next to Liu Bei, which shared a courtyard with Ye Xiaohan. Now, she proposed that Liu Wen and her husband move to the southern wing.
The southern wing was quite nice, but compared to the others, it still had some shortcomings. At the time, the Liu family was small and did not plan to live there, so they did not put much effort into renovations; they only cleaned it up a bit.
Ye Xiaohan's reasoning was sound: "Our courtyard is too cramped. Uncle Li's side has a round area, and the children are noisy, which disturbs Aunt and Uncle's rest. The south side is better—it's quiet and perfect for cultivating peace of mind."
Liu Wen gritted her teeth in anger but still had to show gratitude on her face. "It's fine for us to live in the south; I like it there."
And so the matter was settled. Although the outcome was not as perfect as Ye Xiaohan had hoped, it still achieved the effect she wanted, so she let it go.
After Liu Wen and her husband were exposed, they could no longer maintain an air of superiority. Yang Hua could only go out to find work, but he wasn't particularly capable, making it difficult for him to find a job. Liu Wen had little skill herself and could only take on some sewing jobs to bring home for extra income.
Sometimes, seeing Liu Wen and her husband unable to act high and mighty anymore, even having to smile ingratiatingly, made Ye Xiaohan's previous grievances dissipate.
She no longer sought to make things difficult for Liu Wen and her husband but also stopped paying attention to them. She just hoped that after a month had passed, they would leave for good.

Now she hated not only Ye Xiaohan but also the entire Liu family. The Liu family was finished; they had been bewitched by that vixen Ye Xiaohan. If they continued to let the Liu family remain under Liu Bei's control, sooner or later they would be swallowed by Ye Xiaohan. It would be better if everything were in her hands!
Liu Wen found herself a justification that increasingly felt like truth until she firmly believed it herself.

To thoroughly ruin Ye Xiaohan, it would be difficult for just the two of them. They needed a powerful ally, someone who also harbored hatred towards Ye Xiaohan and had enough strength to carry out the attack.
Wen recalled what Yang Juanjuan had told her earlier and came up with an idea. "Husband, I heard from Juanjuan that Ye Xiaohan has some sort of ambiguous relationship with the county magistrate's son, Liu Yuan. Ye Xiaohan first secretly got involved with Liu Yuan while still being with Bei, and she refuses to give up the inheritance from the Liu family. Living in the Liu household while keeping Liu Yuan hanging, it's likely that Liu Yuan feels resentful towards her as well."
Yang Hua nodded in agreement. "That's right, my lady. What man would be happy to see his woman flirting with other men? Only that coward Bei would dare to tolerate it! But Liu Yuan is not like Bei; he must hate Ye Xiaohan deeply! I think this plan could work."
Indeed, Wen had a certain cleverness about her; if only that intelligence were not directed towards harming others, she might have lived a better life.
They were not wrong in their assumption—Liu Yuan certainly hated Ye Xiaohan. It wasn't just hatred; there was also the bitterness of rejection. Being overshadowed by a man like Bei, whom he considered insignificant, only added to Liu Yuan's sense of irony.
While Wen and her husband racked their brains trying to destroy Ye Xiaohan, Liu Yuan was also contemplating how to vent the pent-up frustration he had been feeling for so long.
Unbeknownst to all of this, Ye Xiaohan was blissfully unaware and enjoying life now that her worries had dissipated. Especially after Bei had been deceived by relatives time and again, he had grown wary of them and no longer allowed them to manipulate him as easily as before.
As long as Bei learned his lesson, everything that happened before could be considered tuition paid—a worthwhile experience.
Ye Xiaohan sipped the tea brewed by Bei and took a bite of the snack that Qi handed to her.
Such days were indeed the most pleasant.
