"The beast thought we were doomed and hurried away, leaving the exit to the secret room unsealed. Fortunately, I was clever enough, relying on my memory to sneak out and bring back some food. We managed to survive," Li Yi concluded this segment of his recollection. 0

Perhaps in the remainder of his life, he would never be able to erase these pains until death brought him back to his family. 0

"Because Round was familiar with the house and often went out to get food, when the previous owner noticed something amiss but couldn't find Round or the secret room that Li Fu had dug out, they assumed the house was haunted. Over time, rumors of ghosts began to spread," Ye Xiaohan nodded, clarifying everything. 0

Ye Xiaohan sighed deeply: "A dog will always be a dog, but a person may not always be a person. Beasts with human faces exist in this world too. Sir, take care of yourself; if you must blame someone, blame that beast for being so good at disguising itself. Don't blame yourself; your family wouldn't want you to feel guilty." 0

"Right? You think so too, don't you, Liu Bei?" Ye Xiaohan nudged Liu Bei with her elbow, signaling him to say something comforting to the grieving old man. 0

After several nudges with no response from Liu Bei, Ye Xiaohan grew curious and turned to look at him. That glance startled her greatly. 0

Liu Bei's eyes were red, blood vessels visible in his pupils, and he clenched his back teeth tightly, struggling to contain his anger. 0

"What’s wrong with you?" Ye Xiaohan asked gently; Liu Bei's demeanor sent chills down her spine. 0

At her words, Liu Bei seemed to calm down a bit. He stood up and left without saying a word. 0

Watching Liu Bei walk away, Ye Xiaohan turned back to explain to Li Yi: "Haha, he must have been so angry upon hearing about such a beast that he reacted like that. Oh dear, Liu Bei is just someone with strong principles who can't stand injustice!" 0

Li Yi shook his head: "Liu Bei is a good person. However, his reaction likely stems from more than just feeling indignant for me; he probably empathizes deeply. Miss Ye, since you are willing to spend your life with him, you should take care of him." 0

"I'm not in that kind of relationship with him," Ye Xiaohan tried to explain. However, her straightforward explanations were often ignored over time, and she grew weary of having to clarify every time. 0

If she wanted to help Liu Bei resolve his inner turmoil, she needed to understand what that turmoil was first. Right now, she didn't even grasp what secrets Liu Bei held; she had no idea where to start. 0

Li Yi and his granddaughter Round had nowhere else to go, so Ye Xiaohan decided to let them stay temporarily. The entire Liu family agreed as well. Especially Liu Qi, who found a new playmate and followed Round around like a little shadow, bringing her treats to win her affection. 0

Childhood friendships blossomed quickly; within just a few days, the two could whisper secrets together. Round was gradually shedding the shadows of her past; her face became rounder and more cheerful as smiles appeared more frequently—each smile revealing two adorable dimples. 0

Just when Ye Xiaohan thought this peaceful life could continue and planned to enjoy the comfort of the Mansion, things took another turn. 0

On this rare occasion, Ye Xiaohan had some free time to rest at home. Leaning on the Beauty Couch in the pavilion, she was engrossed in reading Sister Sheng's Melodramatic Novel when her aunt arrived. 0

Her aunt wasn't alone; she brought along the delicate Yang Juanjuan. 0

"Li Bei, I couldn't help out when you were busy before because of some matters at home. But now that I've sorted everything out, we can stay longer this time. If anything comes up, we can look out for each other, so you kids don't have to bear everything alone," Li Wen said with a kind expression. 0

Ye Xiaohan couldn't help but applaud Li Wen's artful words. When others needed help, she would avoid them, and now that things were settled, here she was again. 0

It was quite a coincidence that her family resolved their issues just as the Li family bought a new house. It was hard to tell if she was here to help or just to enjoy the benefits. 0

Ye Xiaohan remained expressionless, while Li Bei felt awkward. He knew Ye Xiaohan disliked having unrelated people around, but it was difficult for him to outright refuse Li Wen, who had always been decent to the Li family. 0

Li Wen's gaze shifted between the two, sensing the underlying tension. However, she wasn't worried; she hadn't come unprepared. 0

"Li Bei, what's wrong? Aren't you welcoming your aunt? Am I causing you trouble? Oh, and Li Bei's wife, we forgot to inform you before coming. Please don't be mad at Li Bei," Li Wen's words sounded like a gentle reminder but were actually meant to shift Ye Xiaohan's dissatisfaction onto Li Bei, creating conflict between them. 0

Such a simple trick was unlikely to fool Ye Xiaohan. She smiled and replied, "Aunt, not at all! Li Bei treats me so well; I'm actually quite happy and would never be angry with him." 0

"That's good to hear," Li Wen nodded with a smile and turned to give orders. "Why are you still standing there? Hurry up and take the luggage inside." 0

"Excuse me, where should I take these items?" The hired porters looked confused at the pile of luggage. 0

Seeing that Li Wen was determined to stay, Li Bei stepped forward to intervene but hesitated to speak up. He turned his gaze toward Ye Xiaohan. 0

Ye Xiaohan rolled her eyes internally at the sight. At times like this, he would act all obedient—a tall man looking at her with pleading eyes like a large dog. Every time this happened, Ye Xiaohan found it hard to resist and ended up giving in to him. 0

It had been the same during Second Uncle's visit; now another aunt had come. 0

Ye Xiaohan retracted her earlier thought that perhaps her aunt could be a good person. Wasn't this obviously ill-intentioned? Well, looking at it from another angle, living a smooth-sailing life could get boring. Having someone to spar with could add some fun and spice things up. 0

"Aunt is a distinguished guest; let her stay in the best-decorated west wing guest room. It's all set up already; we can go buy some bedding later so it can be ready for use." The Li family didn't have any extra quilts anyway, and even if they did, Ye Xiaohan wouldn't want to contribute them for someone she didn't like. 0

"There's no need to be overly considerate, we're all family. Just find us a random room to stay in," Wen said with a smile. "That way, you won't have to worry about it; we can choose for ourselves." 0

Ye Xiaohan was curious to see what tricks she might pull. 0

Wen completely disregarded her, casually wandering around the house before pointing to one of the rooms and saying with satisfaction, "We won't be picky. Let's just stay here. I'll take this one, and Juanjuan can stay in the room next to mine." 0

Ye Xiaohan looked at the room she had chosen and couldn't help but laugh. "Auntie, your taste is quite good. The room you picked is my bedroom, and the one next to it belongs to Qi." 0

They really had the nerve to claim the two best rooms in the house. 0

Wen's expression shifted to surprise as she heard Ye Xiaohan's words. She pointed at another room and asked, "What about this one? Isn't this 6 Bei's room?" 0

"Yes, that room belongs to 6 Bei," Ye Xiaohan replied, not seeing any issue with it. She shot a puzzled glance at 6 Bei and 6 Yang, who were exchanging looks behind Wen. 0

Wen's face darkened immediately. "6 Bei's wife, what do you mean by that? You're living in the 6 household already; why are you still sleeping separately from 6 Bei? Are you still holding a grudge over what happened before? That's where you're wrong. The past is the past; there's no need to cling to it." 0

Ye Xiaohan finally recalled that matter but didn't feel like explaining herself to Wen. Let her think whatever she wanted; who cared about her opinions? One thing was certain: she would not give up her room. 0

"These matters are private between me and 6 Bei. As the saying goes, 'It's hard for an impartial judge to settle family affairs.' It's really not appropriate for anyone outside of us two to get involved, so please don't ask," Ye Xiaohan stated firmly, hoping to put an end to Wen's incessant questioning. 0

She continued, "As for this room, I'm already used to living here. If I were to switch rooms, I might not sleep well. If I don't sleep well, I tend to get irritable, and that would cause chaos in the house. It's better if I just keep this room." 0
