A sudden kick to her back sent Ye Xiaohan's hefty body tumbling forward, losing balance. As her eyes caught sight of a large rock nearby, panic surged through her, and she instinctively reached out to grab the person beside her, hoping to avoid disaster.

Seeing her stir, the person whipping her only intensified their assault, cursing as they did so. "You filthy wench! Why aren't you playing dead? How dare you steal from me? I'll make sure you don't survive today!"
With each word, the force of the blows grew stronger.
Ye Xiaohan knew all too well that her body was in terrible shape, and it felt like blood was still flowing from her head. The overwhelming metallic scent made her nauseous. She lifted her head slightly to survey her surroundings, hoping for help from those nearby. However, the bizarrely dressed onlookers merely laughed at her without making any move to assist.

The beating suddenly stopped, and Ye Xiaohan thought her suffering had finally come to an end. But then, the man crouched down and yanked her wrist.
When Ye Xiaohan woke up, she realized she was holding something in her hand. The drastic change left her no time to see what it was. As the man reached for it, she instinctively tightened her grip.
In response, she received a brutal beating and a barrage of insults. Ye Xiaohan's frail body couldn't withstand the strength of the hulking man, and the item in her hand was quickly snatched away.
A flash of malice crossed the man's eyes. He was known as the Butcher Master in these parts, and no one dared to offend him. This bitch had the audacity to steal from him; he would make sure she understood just how dangerous he could be.
He shoved the item he had taken from Ye Xiaohan into her mouth and stomped down hard on it.
"You filthy whore, if you like stealing food so much, I'll make sure you eat well—until it kills you!"
Hearing the Butcher Master's curses, Ye Xiaohan regretted her actions deeply. What had possessed her to steal a bun? Now she was being beaten without even understanding the situation.
It seemed that the Butcher Master had no intention of letting her go; he wanted to keep her around for his amusement. He picked up a whip nearby, preparing to strike her again.
Ye Xiaohan's body was already battered beyond repair. If this continued, she would surely die.
But at that moment, she had no strength left to fight back; all she could do was endure the beating.
Just as the whip was about to come down on her, a steady male voice interrupted the Butcher Master's actions.
"Wait..."
Ye Xiaohan looked up in the direction of the voice and saw a tall young man. His bronze skin glistened under the sunlight, and his chiseled features would have been strikingly handsome if it weren't for the large, ugly scar on his face. Ye Xiaohan thought that this man must be very attractive.
The Butcher Master, who had been whipping her, turned to the newcomer and said, "Lu Family Brothers, this woman isn't following you anymore. Why bother with her? Let me beat her to death for you; it will save you from getting your hands dirty."
Lu Bei glanced at the Butcher Master, subtly distancing himself from him, and replied coldly, "She stole your buns; it's worth at most three coins. Here’s a handful of money as compensation."
A handful of coins was roughly eight coins, enough to buy three meat buns without issue. Seeing Lu Bei's insistence, the Butcher Master chose not to argue further. He released Ye Xiaohan, took the money, and turned to leave.

Lu Bei halted and turned to look down at the pitiful Ye Xiaohan on the ground. This vain woman had tried to flirt with another man after he had sold her off. When that man's wife came to confront him, he had no choice but to write her a divorce letter and give her some silver coins to send her away.
He had thought he would never see her again in this lifetime, but today at the market, seeing her being beaten stirred something within him, prompting him to intervene.

Ye Xiaohan slightly lifted herself and reached for the prescription on the table. It had a faintly pungent smell, but she was surprised that the village doctor had prescribed accurate medicine.
In the 21st century, she was a genius healer; whether it was traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine, she could handle both with ease.
She decided to stay here for a few days, taking care of herself until she felt better before making any plans.
However, it seemed that everything could not go according to Ye Xiaohan's wishes.
Just as she set down the prescription and prepared to lie down for a rest, she heard a loud commotion coming from the courtyard, followed by a woman's curses.
"Ye, you shameless woman, you little fox spirit, get out here!"
Before Ye Xiaohan could react to what was happening, the door to her room was kicked open with force, and a shadow rushed toward her.

Ye Xiaohan wearily defended herself; this woman not only had great strength but also a foul mouth. She kept cursing incessantly, and the spittle flying from her lips nearly suffocated Ye Xiaohan.
She thought that if this continued, she would either be beaten to death by this woman or suffocate from holding her breath.
Just when Ye Xiaohan felt she could no longer hold on and was ready to fight for her life, a loud shout suddenly echoed through the room, bringing instant silence.
"What are you doing?"
