Tang Zisu saw a plate of pastries on the table and grabbed a Sticky Rice Cake, stuffing it into the Chief's mouth. "Chief, something big has happened! Many ancient beasts that eat people have come to Peacock Mountain. We need to move quickly; it's dangerous." It felt great to finally get all that out!
"Mmm, mmm..." The Chief was stuck with the Sticky Rice Cake, unable to open his mouth as he frantically tried to pry it loose with his hands, even getting some of his remaining whiskers caught in the mess. It was quite a chaotic scene.
At first, the Young Ones were secretly amused, but gradually they noticed the Chief's face changing. They rushed over to help him, patting his back and pounding his chest until they finally managed to get the Sticky Rice Cake out. Unfortunately, those few poor whiskers were lost!
Tang Zisu felt guilty for causing trouble and quickly handed the Chief a cup of tea as an apology.
After a while, the Chief finally caught his breath and said tremulously, "I know. The Azure Water Lotus has started to wither; the disasters recorded on the parchment have truly come. But it’s alright; you are all here. You are the hope of our Peacock Village and even of the entire world."
Wow, Chief, hope is nice, but not for us—unless you want us to be snacks for the monsters.
Tang Zisu held the Chief's hand and said solemnly, "Chief, you need to think this through. You're getting old; the monsters might find you tough to chew. We're different—we're soft-skinned, tender-fleshed, fresh-blooded, and delicious!"
"Tang Zisu, I am very clear about this. To protect the peace of Peacock Mountain, to uphold love and justice, for the sake of all people and living beings—you are the Invincible Little Heroes from Peacock Mountain."
Tang Zisu and the others stared blankly at the Chief as he stretched his arms and legs in a dramatic pose. They were all dumbfounded, especially Tang Zisu; she seemed to see something in a daze. After a moment, she held the Chief's hand and said, "Chief, I understand now; you grew up watching animated shows from Island Nation."
Little Fish looked confused. "What are you talking about? The more I listen, the more confused I get. Chief, are you sending us to fight monsters?"
The Chief instinctively reached for his beard but found nothing to grasp. He could only nod mysteriously in response.
"Really?" Little Fish exclaimed.
"Exactly," Kong Xuan said as he walked in from outside.
