You Were Born a Nobleman, Chapter 28: Kill That Wolf
After finally sending away the affectionate young men, Tang Zisu felt a bit jealous: "I am also considered a beauty, why don't I see you all being so enthusiastic? When you see Xuan Xuan, it's like flies attracted to dung—no, it's more like cats drawn to fish. No, that doesn't even fit her high and aloof beauty. It's just like a customer seeing the headliner!"
Kong Xuan got up and pulled Tang Zisu to sit in a chair, handing her a cup of tea. "Tang Zisu, you must be exhausted. The people here are truly hospitable; it shows that you have done a lot for them and brought them much prosperity."
Flattered by Kong Xuan's words, Tang Zisu felt more fragrant inside than the tea she had just drunk. Her lively big eyes sparkled, and her long eyelashes revealed her joy. She patted her chest with great flair and said, "Xuan Xuan, from now on, stick with me." Tang Zisu stuck out her tongue, almost letting slip something she shouldn't have.
Kong Xuan was somewhat entranced by her demeanor. Did she resemble Light Eye? Aside from their similar faces, there was nothing of Light Eye's essence left—Light Eye always stood untainted outside the mundane world, gentle and compassionate, caring for all.
The lively atmosphere at the Shrine continued. The first to report every day was inevitably Little Fish. Softy scooped out some tender tofu from the basket with a crying face and said, "Little Fish, don’t send so much tofu; we can’t eat it all."
Little Fish had specially changed into a brand new robe. He waved his bamboo fan and said, "It’s fine; we can dry it into tofu jerky. Xuan Xuan, this tofu jerky is full of benefits; eating it will enhance your beauty..."
Tang Zisu couldn't help but mock Little Fish in her heart. When I first arrived here, who was like a little dog circling around? But I never saw anyone delivering tofu early in the morning—what a lustful man!
Tang Zisu coldly replied, "Little Fish, look at how much tofu jerky we've already dried; what if it rains and it all goes bad?"
Following Tang Zisu's finger, Little Fish indeed spotted a patch of white tofu jerky. He immediately said, "It's fine; we can make Stinky Tofu. This Stinky Tofu smells bad but tastes good..."
Stinky Tofu? I really want to smack you right now!
Kong Xuan extended a finger, resembling a green onion, and poked a hole in the tofu. He looked up at Little Fish, whose golden, crystal-clear eyes resembled the ocean where Little Fish swam. "Little Fish, you could come to play even without bringing tofu. You are the Shamaness and should always be by the High Priestess's side!"
Upon hearing this, Little Fish felt like jumping up and wrapping herself around the grinding stone, grinding out ten or eight pieces of tofu in one go. She bit her fan and pretended to be shy, almost twisting her body in a playful manner.
Tang Zisu shook his head, thinking that this was just a perpetual victim.
This continued for three days. On the morning of the fourth day, Softy had just woken up when she heard commotion outside her door. She felt somewhat displeased; these people were getting up earlier and earlier. Amidst a series of loud knocks on the door, Softy reached out to open it.
As soon as Softy opened the door, villagers armed with hoes and hatchets rushed in. Leading them was Softy's aunt, who wore a red flower in her hair. She pushed Softy aside and pointed at Lang Ye, who had just come out of the house. "Look, that wolf is right there! Quickly kill it!"
Softy raised her hand to block them. "It's not a wolf; it's just a big dog."
Lang Ye held his head high, coldly staring at the brutal villagers before him.
Aunt Mi poked Softy on the forehead with her chubby finger. "It's you, you jinx! First, you caused your parents' deaths, and now you've brought back this creature that has killed so many of our livestock. Hand it over!"
