Ouyang Zixin didn't know why she was walking back to the second floor. Perhaps it was because women shouldn't make things difficult for other women?
But that wasn't right; it had always been others making things difficult for her. She had never actively troubled anyone.
Women can't stand to see other women being bullied?
That didn't make sense either; she hadn't seen anything. Besides, what did it have to do with her if Sito Rongyan was being bullied?
Sighing, she couldn't figure out the reason, but her feet were already headed toward the second floor.
"Hey, why are you back again?" A burly man happened to walk out of a private room, wiping the sweat from his forehead, seemingly surprised by Ouyang Zixin's return.
"Officer, what's going on in there?" Ouyang Zixin wanted to peek inside but found the crowd too overwhelming, so she decided to ask directly.
"What’s the matter?" Normally, inquiries about ongoing investigations weren't something just anyone could ask about. However, given that Ouyang Zixin had cooperated with questions earlier, he didn't mind sharing some information as long as she didn't inquire about anything confidential.
"To be honest, I think I ran into someone I know," Ouyang Zixin admitted. If it weren't for that connection, no one would bother with this kind of trouble.
The burly man didn't seem surprised by Ouyang Zixin's answer at all. After all, the people in the private room were all prominent figures in the capital, former noble ladies and gentlemen. Given Ouyang Zixin's age, it was plausible that she knew them.
"I came here to apprehend a suspect, but unexpectedly, the people inside started clashing first. Now it's a complete mess," he said with noticeable impatience. These individuals with some family background were always the hardest to deal with; he couldn't just take action against them and could only wait until things escalated enough to bring them back.
"Do you know if it's a man or a woman?" He raised an eyebrow toward the private room. Knowing whether it was a man or a woman would determine Ouyang Zixin's stance; he couldn't afford to let someone go in and cause more chaos.
"She's a woman."
"Then come with me." The big man thought that women would be easier to talk to, so he intended to let Ouyang Zixin go in and persuade them to return with him.
However, ideals are always abundant, while reality is often stark.
Ouyang Zixin followed the big man and pushed through the crowd to appear at the door of the private room. Inside, Sito Rongyan screamed, "What are you doing here? You, get lost! Are you here to watch me make a fool of myself?"
The big man was taken aback at first. Then he realized what was happening and turned to look at Ouyang Zixin, whose face began to twitch slightly. He whispered, "Aren't you two acquaintances? Why the hostility?"
"Heh heh, we have a grudge," Ouyang Zixin replied awkwardly.
"..." The big man was speechless. Once again, he had miscalculated!
Ouyang Zixin composed herself and walked into the private room. There weren't many people inside—oh, excluding the Officer, there weren't many at all. One was Sito Rongyan. A man who appeared to be her husband was present, along with another woman who looked decent but whom Ouyang Zixin did not recognize. She couldn't discern her identity either.
"Young Master Xu?"
Seeing that Ouyang Zixin recognized him, the man nodded. However, his expression was not pleasant. Of course not; this was a family scandal. Now that the Officer had arrived and there were even more spectators, how could he possibly look good?
But he also knew that anyone allowed in by the Officer likely had some standing. Earlier, he had worried that this person was there to support Sito Rongyan, but now seeing her attitude towards Ouyang Zixin, he felt somewhat relieved.
"It seems you've hit your wife?" Ouyang Zixin turned to look at Sito Rongyan, whose makeup had run from crying. The current version of her was vastly different from when they had met on the street. Her makeup was nearly washed away, leaving dark circles under her eyes; it didn't seem like she had been beaten but rather looked quite unwell.
"Don't understand? I mean you hit your wife, your spouse, your partner." Ouyang Zixin looked at the man, well-dressed and seemingly decent-looking, yet it was surprising that he would hit his wife. Such people were the ones she despised the most.
"Hmph, what does it have to do with you?" The man snorted coldly, seemingly annoyed by Ouyang Zixin's interference.
Beside him, Sito Rongyan was not foolish either. Although she felt anger upon seeing Ouyang Zixin for the first time, it seemed that she truly came to support her. With her husband involved with another woman and the officers clearly unwilling to intervene in domestic matters, she had lost all support and could only rely on Ouyang Zixin.
"Ouyang Zixin, Miss Ouyang, you have to save me, otherwise, he will kill me..." Sito Rongyan cried even more pitifully, like a person adrift at sea who suddenly spots a piece of driftwood, seeing hope for survival. This desperation made her appear quite insane.
"Shut up!" Ouyang Zixin covered her ears; Sito Rongyan's voice was too shrill and uncomfortable to listen to, and more importantly, it was very loud.
At Ouyang Zixin's shout, Sito Rongyan abruptly stopped crying and shouting, only sobbing pitifully on the side.
"Who is this noble lady?" Ouyang Zixin glanced at the beautiful woman named Zi Yi, who had been standing behind Young Master Xu as if they were a couple.
"Hmph, what does it have to do with you?" The man continued to snort coldly.
"From your expression, it seems you were also thinking about family scandals just now? If I were to turn around and add some details to your story, what do you think would happen on the streets of the capital?"
"You!"
"What about me? Hitting a woman is not something to be proud of, yet you're helping a wildflower attack a family flower. Tsk tsk..."
Upon hearing Ouyang Zixin mention the wild woman outside, Sito Rongyan opened her mouth as if to protest but swallowed her words when Ouyang Zixin shot her a glare.
Young Master Xu felt worried and fearful upon hearing Ouyang Zixin's words. He was originally in the right today, but now that this commotion had arisen, it would undoubtedly affect him if it spread. He immediately fell silent.
Seeing that he understood the situation, Ouyang Zixin turned to the burly officer at the door and said, "Officer, you can take her away now."
"No, no, you can't let them take me away..." Sito Rongyan could no longer hold back and suddenly crawled to Ouyang Zixin's feet, pleading, "Please, be a good person and don't let them take me."
Ouyang Zixin was surprised to find that the so-called suspect was actually Sito Rongyan. In shock, she looked at the burly man, who remained calm and said, "We came to ask for Madam Xu, but we didn't expect to run into them. They are handling family matters..."
Well, Ouyang Zixin was also at a loss; this truly was a tangled situation...
Yun Tianmo, is this your arrangement?
"I'm sorry, I have to go home. I can't get involved in your matters," Ouyang Zixin pulled her leg away and looked coldly at Sito Rongyan.
"Why? Since you're willing to help me once, why not... Haha, I see now. You're pretending to help me, but you actually want me to be taken away by the Officer. Haha, you really are a despicable person!" Sito Rongyan began to lose her composure.
Ouyang Zixin ignored her words and instead addressed the burly man, "At least she's from a noble family; give her some face and let her maid come in to attend to her."
The burly man looked puzzled. "She treats you like this, and you still..." Although he didn't know what grievances they had before, Sito Rongyan hadn't said anything nice in that short time. The burly man was somewhat confused about Ouyang Zixin's attitude.
"Officer, if you were bitten by a dog, would you bite it back?"
Ouyang Zixin's voice drifted away as she walked off...
