"Are you really surprised that the Sovereign wants to arrange a marriage for Xin'er?" Bai Su exclaimed, dropping her cup to the floor with a crash.
"Is it really that shocking?" Ouyang Hao sighed helplessly, picking up the shards from the ground before looking up. "This isn't news that's just come up; why are you so surprised?"
Nan Gong Yao had been thinking about the marriage arrangement for Ouyang Zixin, which was no secret in the Capital of the Departed Nation. Although it had been delayed for various reasons, Ouyang Hao couldn't understand what could possibly surprise Bai Su.
"You don't know, but Yun Tianmo left today. Could it be because he learned that the Sovereign intends to arrange a marriage for Xin'er and decided to back out?" Bai Su was actually worried about losing her prospective son-in-law who had already arrived at their home.
Ouyang Hao's mouth twitched upon hearing this; it turned out his wife was concerned about this. It seemed she really didn't understand the man she had already "set her sights on." He took Bai Su's hand and sat her down, patiently explaining who Yun Tianmo was. Although he didn't know him very well himself, he certainly knew more than Bai Su did.
After listening to Ouyang Hao's explanation, Bai Su was left utterly speechless. She never expected that the son-in-law she casually picked would turn out to be such an impressive figure.
Seeing Bai Su's adorable reaction, Ouyang Hao couldn't help but laugh. "Haha, are you shocked? Or are you just too happy?"
"I... I’m shocked... and also happy!" Bai Su disregarded Ouyang Hao's teasing, her shock transforming into excitement. "Yun Tianmo is so amazing; having him protect Xin'er will definitely be fine, don't you think?"
Looking at Bai Su's hopeful eyes, Ouyang Hao couldn't bear to dampen her spirits and quickly nodded in agreement. Upon returning from the palace today, he had heard Zi Yi mention what had happened at home. He was fully aware of the conversation between Madam Bai and Bai Su, so he was no longer opposed to Bai Su hastily arranging a marriage for their daughter.
The sooner they settled their daughter's affairs, the less Madam Bai could continue to manipulate Bai Su.
Ouyang Hao wasn't particularly surprised by Matriarch's behavior; someone like her could never just be a loving mother. However, he was somewhat surprised by his daughter's performance—pleasantly surprised, in fact. He hadn't expected her to be so clever and alert, not allowing herself to be deceived by Madam Bai's status as grandmother.
Having one Bai Su in the family was already enough; it would be better if their daughter didn't turn out to be as muddled as she was.
"So rest easy; Yun Tianmo won't back out," Ouyang Hao assured her. He was certain that Yun Tianmo wouldn't leave just because Nan Gong Yao wanted to arrange a marriage; if he left, it must be for another reason. In the past, if Yun Tianmo had left, it would have been no big deal, but now he felt some concern. The current situation was complex, and if Yun Tianmo stayed away too long, there might be unforeseen complications.
"Madam, you should rest first. I remember there are still some matters I need to attend to; you don't need to wait for me."
"Okay, but don't stay up too late. Your health is important."
"I know."

“Uncle Zi Yi,” Ouyang Zixin leaned against the long couch, holding an old book that had been flipped through many times. Hearing Liu Ying's voice outside, she looked up at the introduced Zi Yi and smiled sweetly at him.
Zi Yi was still dressed in gray, his face showing little expression. However, when he heard Ouyang Zixin call him "uncle," his demeanor softened slightly compared to usual.
Ouyang Zixin set down her book and walked toward the outer room, gesturing for Zi Yi to take a seat while she began to brew tea.
Before long, a floral fragrance filled the room, light and pleasant.
“Miss's skills are truly remarkable,” Zi Yi remarked lightly.
“Uncle Zi Yi is too kind,” Ouyang Zixin chuckled softly, picking up a cup of freshly brewed tea and handing it over. Glancing out the window, she asked, “Does Uncle Zi Yi not want to invite that other uncle outside to join us for tea?”
Zi Yi was taken aback by her words; there was indeed another ally outside. But how did the young lady notice that?
Seeing the puzzled look on Zi Yi's face, Ouyang Zixin did not hide it and explained candidly, “It is said that the Fortune Day in the Millennium Ruins is profound; encountering it is a blessing. I happened to gain some insights, so my perception is sharper than most.”
Although Ouyang Zixin spoke lightly, Zi Yi understood that the Fortune Day must be significant. The claim of having better perception than others likely meant that she had already investigated him. To be honest, if it weren't for their years of collaboration, he might not have even noticed the presence of the person outside.
“Since Miss says so, then let him come in,” Zi Yi finally reached out to take the teacup Ouyang Zixin offered and gestured toward the window.
Sure enough, a figure silently drifted in.
Fortunately, because Ouyang Zixin enjoyed reading and used luminous pearls for lighting in her room to prevent candlelight from flickering and affecting her vision, the sudden appearance of another person was not too strange.
“What should I call this uncle?”
“Zi Er.” The person did not speak; instead, it was Zi Yi, who was tasting tea, that answered on his behalf.
“Uncle Zi Er, please sit and have some tea.” Ouyang Zixin was friendly and offered another cup of tea with a bright smile inviting him to take a seat.
However, Zi Er did not move at all and did not reach out to take the teacup Ouyang Zixin extended.
Seeing him like this, Ouyang Zixin did not insist, as seeing Zi Er reminded her of the shadow guards around Yun Tianmo. She feared that this Uncle Zi Er had a similar role to theirs.
The purpose of summoning Zi Yi this time was to find out what her mother had discussed with Madam Bai in the morning, so Ouyang Zixin got straight to the point and asked her question.
“Madam Bai emphasized the difficulties of bearing children and the future of the Bai Clan, using these to pressure my mother. In addition, she mentioned that if the future of the Bai Clan were entrusted to Bai Zhan, my mother's life would likely be even more miserable than before.”

Zi Yi remained silent and did not speak.

“You should answer that,” Zi Yi raised an eyebrow and glanced at Zi Er.
Ouyang Zixin followed his gaze to Zi Er. This man, also dressed in gray, stood right in front of her yet was easily overlooked. If it weren't for her exceptional Mental Power now, she wouldn't have noticed him even if he were hiding outside or standing behind her.
“Interests.”
The two words spoken by Zi Er gave Ouyang Zixin a sense of “as expected.” Although she was not familiar with Zi Er compared to Zi Yi, she felt she understood the meaning behind his words—or rather, the implications of that word “interests.”
