Leaving the Royal Palace
"Master Xuan, the White Maiden has already recovered, but I don't know why she hasn't woken up yet." The physician had been by Baike's side for several days, trying every method possible, yet there were no signs of her awakening. When facing Ouyang Hao, he felt as if he wanted to dig a hole and hide in it, feeling unworthy of the title of the Exiled Nation's top physician.
Ouyang Hao furrowed his brows; several days had passed, and Baike showed no response at all. It was strange not only to the physician but also to Ouyang Hao himself, who had personally checked her condition. There were no issues with her body, not even any hidden injuries.
He waved his hand, signaling the physician to leave. Only two maidservants remained in the room. He instructed them, "Take good care of her and report any situation immediately."
As he walked out of the room, Ouyang Hao looked up at the setting sun; another day had passed.
"Master Xuan, the Sovereign requests your presence." A guard appeared around the corner and approached Ouyang Hao to convey Nangong Yao's orders.
"Understood." Ouyang Hao concealed his fatigue and turned toward the Main Hall. Every day before leaving the palace, he had to meet with Nangong Yao to report on Baike's condition and discuss how to deal with the Alien Manifestation.
Speaking of the Alien Manifestation was quite peculiar; since its appearance that night, it had completely vanished, which did not align with the legends. Furthermore, there had been no news from the mysterious figure mentioned in those legends, leaving Nangong Yao feeling unsettled.
As Nangong Yao felt uneasy, Ouyang Hao naturally did not fare any better during his daily visits to the palace.
"Is your daughter really not the Legitimate Daughter of the Bai Clan?" This had become a daily routine; Nangong Yao seemed to have obtained information from somewhere. He speculated that the Alien Manifestation might be related to the Legitimate Daughter of the Bai Clan. As one of the few in-the-know individuals, Nangong Yao would not miss any opportunity to inquire about it.
However, Ouyang Hao remained tight-lipped, not only because this matter concerned his daughter but also because he sincerely hoped she would not become known as the Legitimate Daughter of the Bai Clan.
Ouyang Hao shot a glance at Nangong Yao, showing no intention of answering him and instead began discussing Baike's condition. This left Nangong Yao feeling frustrated. This was typical of Ouyang Hao; anyone else would dare not treat a Sovereign this way.
"Ouyang Hao, I say you..."
"What about me?" Ouyang Hao raised an eyebrow. He knew that while Nangong Yao was concerned about the Alien Manifestation, he was more interested in gossip. It was quite unusual for a Sovereign to behave like this; it would be embarrassing if word got out.
"Forget it, get lost!" Nan Gong Yao shouted angrily. "I've never seen someone so thick-headed!"
Although the Legitimate Daughter of the Bai Clan was not as prominent as before, if the Bai Clan still had some foundation, it would actually be a good thing for Ouyang Hao's family. However, Nan Gong Yao couldn't understand why Ouyang Hao was so resistant. He had heard some things about Bai Su in the past, but that was so long ago. What was there to argue about now?
Well, even if there was something to argue about, it would be simple. Just elevate Ouyang Zixin to the position of Legitimate Daughter and then deal with Bai Zhan directly. What else would be difficult after that?
"By the way, what about Tuoer's marriage..."
Bang!
The door to the hall slammed shut, and Nangong Tuo's figure disappeared from his sight.
"Ouyang Hao!"
Nan Gong Yao trembled with anger; how many times had Ouyang Hao ignored him now?
Li Feng stood by, struggling to contain himself, his whole body shaking, his face turning a deep red as if he might faint at any moment.
"Shake, shake!" Nan Gong Yao turned around and saw Li Feng trying not to laugh. He immediately vented his anger: "You go outside and shake; don't stop until you've shaken for twelve hours!"
With that, he quickly left.
——————————————
"Father, Father..."
Nan Gong Yao had just returned to his chamber when he heard Nangong Tuo's voice outside, and he suddenly felt a headache coming on.
"Go tell him that I want to rest..."
"Father, I knew you would come back." Nangong Tuo pushed the door open and saw his father, Nan Gong Yao, preparing to enter the hall. He quickly walked over and said eagerly, "Father, are you tired? Let me get you a glass of water."
"No need." Nan Gong Yao thought to himself that as long as Nangong Tuo didn't come every day to inquire about news, it would be fine. He had just faced a setback with Ouyang Hao and now had to confront his son, which made him feel suddenly exhausted.
Nangong Tuo, who had come in with enthusiasm, instantly understood his father's demeanor. It seemed that today would likely yield no results again, and he felt as if all his strength had been drained away, collapsing into a chair.
"You..." Nan Gong Yao was filled with frustration. Look at him! Just look at what he has become!
It's just a woman!
"Father, I take my leave," Nangong Tuo said, not wanting to listen to Nan Gong Yao's ramblings. He forced himself to stand and bow but was grabbed back by Nan Gong Yao and thrown into the chair.
"Ouch!"
"Hmph, why the hurry? You want to leave as soon as you've spoken? I haven't finished yet," Nan Gong Yao said irritably, looking at his son who was grimacing in pain. No wonder people say children come to collect debts; it truly seems to be the case. Whether you're a beggar or a Sovereign, when it comes to your own children, there's nothing you can do.
"Have you seen Baike in the palace?"
"I have," Nangong Tuo replied lazily.
"I think she has a decent appearance and status; she might even be the Legitimate Daughter of the Bai Clan. You..."
"I don't want her!" Nangong Tuo jumped up suddenly. Aside from Ouyang Zixin, he looked down on everyone else. Moreover, he knew that Baike once tried to kill Ouyang Zixin. There was absolutely no way he would agree to give up Ouyang Zixin for such a venomous woman.
"You don't want her? Hmph, Ouyang Zixin might not even look at you," Nan Gong Yao said with some bitterness. It was quite embarrassing for the son of a Sovereign to be repeatedly rejected by a minister's daughter. The reason he considered Baike was also to see if it could provoke Ouyang Hao a bit; Ouyang Hao had issues with the Bai Clan. If Exiled Nation were to have a Bai Clan Consort of the Third Prince or even a national mother in the future, would he still hold firm?
Nangong Tuo's face turned red and pale from his father's words. He knew that Ouyang Zixin didn't think highly of him, but why did his father have to say such things?
Some things are better left unsaid!
It hurts...
"Can't speak anymore?" Nangong Yao glanced at his son, Zi Yi. He didn't mean to say it like that; his son simply lacked ambition. If saying this could ignite his fighting spirit, then it wasn't a bad thing.
"What should I say? That I'm stronger than Yun Tianmo? Hmph, that's just self-deception." Nangong Tuo's tone was somewhat sorrowful. Why was it Yun Tianmo? If it were anyone else, he would have the heart to compete, but unfortunately...
"Then do you want to consider Bai..."
"No!"
Bang—
The heavy door of the palace was slammed shut.
Again with the door.
This scene felt so familiar...
"Ah, being Sovereign isn't easy," Nangong Yao shook his head and sighed. (To be continued.)
