"I was right after all. Pinnacle Novel," Ouyang Zixin turned to look at the uncarved small circle inside the Small Stone Box. Shouldn't it be recessed or have some kind of clasp? Otherwise, how could the Mirror Guardian be embedded in there?
She pinched the Mirror Guardian in her hand and gestured over the small circle for a while, then asked uncertainly, "Do you think this is just a coincidence?"
Nameless held the Small Stone Box, his gaze following Ouyang Zixin's gestures back and forth several times, making him feel a bit dizzy. "Where would all these coincidences come from?"
According to what Ouyang Zixin usually told Nameless, there really aren't that many coincidences in this world; all coincidences only happen in TV shows, movies, or novels, while life is actually the hardest place to encounter coincidences. So if we reason this out, the Mirror Guardian was first coincidentally discovered by Nameless, then captured by Ouyang Zixin, transforming from a large piece to a small one, and now they found that the size of the small circle on this Small Stone Box is actually the same as that of the shrunken Mirror Guardian. If none of these are coincidences, then they must be inevitable.
"Shall we give it a try?" Ouyang Zixin raised an eyebrow. They had obtained these items with little effort, so she felt quite relaxed at this moment.
"Let's give it a try." Nameless nodded in agreement; after all, trying wouldn't hurt. If it didn't fit, it wouldn't ruin anything, and if it did fit, it would be an unexpected gain.
After deciding, Ouyang Zixin took the Small Stone Box from Nameless, holding the Mirror Guardian in her other hand. She carefully placed the Mirror Guardian on top of the small circle and pressed down slightly. She didn't feel anything special. It was unclear whether it had been embedded or stuck. "Okay, I'm letting go now."
As she spoke, Ouyang Zixin gradually eased the pressure from her fingers and noticed that the Mirror Guardian didn't seem to have any tendency to fall. Slowly retracting her fingers allowed the Mirror Guardian to remain on the small circle. To confirm that it was indeed secure, Ouyang Zixin even turned the entire Small Stone Box upside down, shaking it gently at first and then shaking it harder. She found that it really wouldn’t fall off.
"Is that it?"
"That's it." Nameless knew what Ouyang Zixin wanted to say; every time they encountered treasures there would be some kind of glow or sound or something like that. But this time, as the Mirror Guardian fused with this Small Stone Box, nothing happened at all—it was completed so casually.
Damn, this is unscientific!
Where is the promised brilliance? Where is the grand atmosphere? Where is the shining light?!
It would be one thing if none of that was present. But what is going on with the Small Stone Box suddenly closing and becoming impossible to open?!
"It wasn't me who closed it!" Ouyang Zixin struggled for a long time but couldn't get the Small Stone Box open. Nameless looked at her as if to say—look at the mess you've created.
"Well, Nameless knows."
"Should I try inputting Mysterious Energy? After all, the Mirror Guardian has acknowledged me, so it should respond." Ouyang Zixin suggested dryly. Nameless remained silent, appearing indifferent, which frustrated her even more. After all, the box had suddenly become unopenable while it was in her hands.
Then, within the Underground Palace, flashes of Mysterious Energy illuminated the surroundings. However, that was all there was; there were no triumphant exclamations from Ouyang Zixin. Eventually, sighs could be heard echoing in the air.
"It seems it's not working." Ouyang Zixin's voice carried a hint of exhaustion. After multiple attempts, she felt somewhat discouraged. What kind of broken box is this that it can't be opened once closed? And she had foolishly sacrificed a Mirror Guardian for nothing.
Could this little box really be useless?
Ouyang Zixin thought to herself that after adding the Mirror Guardian, something must have changed within the Small Stone Box. Otherwise, how could it have closed automatically and remained shut despite her efforts? The question now was what exactly had changed in the Small Stone Box, and how could she reopen it? At the very least, she needed to retrieve the Mirror Guardian.
"Should we try smashing it?" Well, actually, that wasn't a good idea, but Ouyang Zixin truly couldn't think of any other effective methods.
Nameless shook his head, feeling that she was starting to give up. If the Small Stone Box could be smashed open, then the Mirror Guardian inside would likely be ruined as well.
"I'll think of something else; there must be something I've overlooked. Let me think..." Ouyang Zixin fiddled with the Small Stone Box. It wasn't that she valued the box itself; rather, she cherished the Mirror Guardian inside. It was something that could reveal what was happening elsewhere in these Millennium Ruins. With it, she might be able to see where Yun Tianmo was and what he was doing.
Sitting cross-legged on the ground in the center of the Underground Palace, Ouyang Zixin supported her head with one hand while holding the Small Stone Box with the other. She furrowed her brows, deep in thought about how to open the Small Stone Box. She even recalled all the events that occurred from the appearance of the Mirror Guardian to the moment it fused with the Small Stone Box, going over every detail in hopes of discovering some clues.
"Master, why don't you eat something first?"
Unknowingly, half a day had already passed, and Ouyang Zixin remained motionless on the ground. Nameless had already prepared food and came to wake her from her contemplation. It was understandable that she couldn't come up with a solution right away, but she still needed to eat. Without caring whether Ouyang Zixin heard him or not, he went over and pulled her up.
"Hey..." Ouyang Zixin was suddenly yanked, and her stiff and numb body uncontrollably tilted to one side. The hand holding the Small Stone Box loosened due to maintaining the same position for too long, causing the Small Stone Box to fall to the ground and roll a few times before it surprisingly rolled back under the original table.
"Master, you've been sitting too long." Nameless didn't think his actions were inappropriate at all; instead, he began to scold Ouyang Zixin. "When you stay still for so long, you should pay a bit of attention. You don't look like a cultivator at all..."
While Nameless rambled on, Ouyang Zixin quickly moved her limbs to alleviate the numbness. Once she felt better, she shook off Nameless and walked toward the stone table to retrieve the Small Stone Box while saying, "You're getting more and more talkative. Where did you learn that?"
