"Is that it?" Nameless stood by, watching as Ouyang Zixin produced a small mirror in her hand, glancing up to see that the originally large mirror beneath the table had vanished. Was it really that simple to subdue it? No, the real question was, what exactly did she do to claim such a Mystical Artifact for herself?
Yun Tianmo was not particularly concerned about this; rather, he was intrigued by the strange words Ouyang Zixin had spoken while subduing the Mirror Guardian. Since he would never know what the mirror had said to her, it was difficult to deduce the details from her words alone.
Ouyang Zixin, however, was completely oblivious to their astonishment. Her attention was entirely captivated by the tiny mirror before her. After shrinking, the Mirror Guardian flew automatically into her palm. A layer of fluorescence swirled across its surface, and the previously rippling mirror surface had calmed down. Yet upon closer inspection, one could still sense that there was more to this mirror than met the eye.
The lighting in the Underground Palace was limited, and it was unclear where it came from. However, as Ouyang Zixin examined the Mirror Guardian closely, she noticed it refracted a beam of light that pointed directly toward the Deep Pool from her perspective. Keeping her palm tilted at an angle and too afraid to move herself, she asked Nameless to check if there was anything special at the point where the light beam refracted.
"Master, there seems to be a hole at the bottom of the pool." When Nameless floated down to the bottom of the Deep Pool, the beam of light had become less distinct, leaving only a nearly invisible dot on the pool's floor. He crouched down and tried to block the beam with his palm, oddly discovering that the light did not reflect on his hand. When he raised his hand too high and looked down, he found that the seemingly light-refracted dot still existed.
This phenomenon was clearly illogical; thus, it suggested that the beam of light was merely some sort of indication or a visual illusion. Only upon reaching the bottom of the pool did he realize that regardless of whether there was a refracted beam or not, that little dot would still be present. Just as Nameless prepared to look up and share this discovery with Ouyang Zixin, he noticed a hidden hole in the wall of the Deep Pool.
The location of this hole was peculiar; it lay directly beneath the Pavilion, right below a protruding stone platform. Even standing above in the Deep Pool and looking over, one would not see this hole's existence. Moreover, it seemed unlikely anyone would pay attention to a hole in the Deep Pool.
"Is there something inside?" Ouyang Zixin had also seen Nameless blocking the beam with his hand and no longer acted cautiously; she simply clenched her fist around the mirror and walked over to the edge of the Deep Pool. Crouching down, she asked.
Nameless had already approached the entrance of the hole; it was dark and somewhat eerie. He supported himself against its edge while leaning halfway inside. Visibility was nearly nonexistent here, so Nameless extended his spiritual sense—
The space inside was not very large; it could barely accommodate an adult curled up. The interior walls were made of stone like those throughout the Underground Palace but were rougher and uneven compared to outside. Aside from that, nothing else could be seen within; just as Nameless intended to retract his spiritual sense, he suddenly spotted a very small particle on the ground at the back of the hole that resembled Dust—about half the size of a grain of rice.
"Nameless?!" Ouyang Zixin waited above for quite some time without hearing a response from Nameless and grew worried, calling out again.
"He should be unable to hear." Yun Tianmo stood beside Ouyang Zixin. From his observation, it seemed that once Nameless had leaned into that hole, he was cut off from everything.
Ouyang Zixin looked up at Yun Tianmo, somewhat confused. What did he mean by "he should be unable to hear"? How could he not hear at such a short distance? Besides, Nameless could communicate directly with her through their consciousness. Looking up at Yun Tianmo, she suddenly noticed that his jawline was quite handsome; although the contours were not particularly soft, they gave off a striking and spirited impression.
"Lost in thought again." Yun Tianmo sighed. While it was flattering that she seemed captivated by him, she should also pay attention to the situation. They still didn't know whether the Mirror Guardian had fully recovered, and now there was this beam of light and the hole at the bottom of the pool. Couldn't she focus on the important matters for a moment?
Coughing lightly, Ouyang Zixin quickly lowered her head and stopped looking at him, her ears slightly reddening as she felt embarrassed for losing composure every time she looked at him.
"Thud—"
Huh? It's back?
Yun Tianmo and Ouyang Zixin exchanged glances; it was clear they both heard it. This time, the sound came from Ouyang Zixin's palm, where that small mirror had emitted another noise.
Yun Tianmo gestured for her to stand up first and then glanced at her palm. Ouyang Zixin nodded, turning her palm upward and slowly opening it. The previously calm surface of the Mirror Guardian rippled once again. Even though the mirror's surface had shrunk significantly, the ripples were still quite evident.
"Is that sweat?"
Next to the Mirror Guardian, they could see beads of sweat on Ouyang Zixin's palm. Perhaps after being caught stealing glances at Yun Tianmo earlier, she was nervous and started to sweat. The corners of Yun Tianmo's mouth curled slightly; he kindly refrained from teasing her at that moment and reached out to dab a bit of her fragrant sweat onto the mirror's surface...
Thud—
Just as expected.
"It determined that you were tired, so it activated Guardian Mode to replenish your energy." The activation criteria for the Mirror Guardian were surprisingly low, which caught him off guard. This made him doubt whether the Mirror Guardian truly possessed the powerful protective abilities as legend suggested.
"Huh?" Activate Guardian Mode? What does that mean?
Ouyang Zixin spread her palms and looked again, but she didn't notice any activation of Guardian Mode. In fact, she didn't even feel the sensation of her Mysterious Energy being replenished or her stamina recovering. "Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
At this moment, Yun Tianmo was also puzzled by the Mirror Guardian, so he remained silent regarding Ouyang Zixin's words. Whether it was a mistake or not, he chose not to comment. After all, the Mirror Guardian was tamed by her; as its master, why was she asking him?
Just as Ouyang Zixin was about to press further, Nameless suddenly floated up. Seeing that both of them were by the pond yet had not responded to his complaints, he wondered if they were bickering again and ignoring him.
"You said you were talking to us down there?" Ouyang Zixin looked at Nameless suspiciously, then glanced at Yun Tianmo. How did he know that Nameless couldn't hear them? And now that Nameless had come up claiming no one responded to him, it seemed too strange.
"Yes, I explained the situation in the cave and asked for your opinions, but since you didn’t respond, I came up myself," Nameless nodded, affirming that he was telling the truth. (To be continued.)
