After walking a short distance with Ouyang Zixin, Yun Tianmo stopped and pointed to a nearby hillock.
The hillock appeared unremarkable, bare and lacking any noteworthy features. If Ouyang Zixin hadn't known that Yun Tianmo would never do anything unnecessary, she might have overlooked the hillock entirely.
"There's actually someone inside," Ouyang Zixin remarked. Her sensing ability was incredibly strong; as long as she focused, there was hardly anyone who could hide from her. Unfortunately, she was usually too lazy to put in the effort.
Using the hillock as cover was quite clever; who would have thought it could serve as a stronghold?
Ouyang Zixin momentarily lost her train of thought and considered whether they should set up a tunnel warfare strategy. She chuckled at the idea, drawing a sidelong glance from Yun Tianmo.
The two did not reveal themselves and quickly moved on. Along the way, Ouyang Zixin shared her tunnel warfare idea with Yun Tianmo as a joke, only to find that he was seriously contemplating its feasibility.
In the end, she muttered to the air—rude.
Then they heard a noise not far behind them, like someone had fallen from a height.
"You... your person..." Ouyang Zixin realized that the hidden individuals in the hillock were actually Yun Tianmo's subordinates, and she had just made fun of them. Feeling embarrassed, she quickly turned her gaze away, not daring to look at him.
Mocking someone's subordinates right in front of them was truly...
Fortunately, Yun Tianmo seemed unfazed; he merely glanced at her and didn't say anything further.
His intention was to inform Ouyang Zixin that he had everything arranged, but who was Ouyang Zixin? In his presence, she often acted foolishly and completely missed the point, instead thinking he wanted to take her along for action.
With great anticipation, the evening action finally arrived. There was no conversation for the entire day.
"What did you say?" Ouyang Zixin almost screamed, completely taken aback that Yun Tianmo actually wanted her to go back.
She had managed to keep her family in the dark to get here and had found a clue; all she needed to do was wait for an opportunity. But now, being asked to give up halfway, she couldn't swallow that.
The sharp tone made Yun Tianmo frown. Asking her to return was naturally for her safety. Seeing her ungrateful expression made him feel somewhat dissatisfied.
"Master." The shadow guard suddenly appeared out of nowhere, respectfully standing beside Yun Tianmo with his head bowed.
It was about time.
Turning to Ouyang Zixin, the severity in his eyes was unmistakable. It seemed she had no choice but to leave.
Feeling intimidated by Yun Tianmo's gaze, Ouyang Zixin shrank her neck. This was the first time he had looked at her like that, and it sent shivers down her spine.
Hmph, a real man doesn't suffer losses in front of him. If she had to go, then so be it.
She shot him a big eye roll, filled with reluctance. Ouyang Zixin retreated from Luoping Village, but instead of obediently returning to the capital, she stopped about five miles away from Luoping Village.
"The prince of Cloud Nation comes to Exiled Nation to meddle and even tries to drive me away. Hmph, if I listen to you, then I don't deserve the surname Ouyang!" Clenching her fists, Ouyang Zixin felt indignant. Why should she?
Weighing the possibility of sneaking back in, she realized that the chances were pitifully low. Not to mention the people Yun Tianmo brought with him; even just Yun Tianmo alone would make it impossible for her to escape his watchful eye.
But why bother with so much? It's better to act first and report later. As long as she returns, he can't really force her to leave.
The night in Luoping Village was pitch black, with no moon or stars visible in the sky, only thick, dark clouds enveloping everything. Ouyang Zixin crouched low like a thief, slowly approaching. At this moment, her senses were heightened to the extreme; on one hand, to avoid being discovered by Yun Tianmo's people, and on the other, to guard against enemies lurking in unknown places.
However, thoughts are abundant while reality is stark.
"Seriously!" Ouyang Zixin was clearly attentive to the movements behind her, yet when a gust of wind rushed toward her, she had no prior sense of it at all.
Realizing something was wrong, Ouyang Zixin knew she had encountered a master. Otherwise, how could she have completely failed to sense that person's presence?
Without daring to think too much, she lunged forward. The fierce wind swept past her back just in time for her to dodge it, but a tear was made in the clothing on her back. A chill rose up; if she wasn't careful, it wouldn't just be about her clothes anymore.
After rolling on the ground for a bit, Ouyang Zixin finally got a clear look at the person behind her—
Clad entirely in a black cloak with a hood obscuring their face, they appeared very grim. Just by seeing their outstretched hand, she could tell that the gust of wind had been unleashed by them; their bony figure showed no signs of being a master.
"Who are you?"
The person let out a strange laugh that sounded like it was forced from their throat, making it quite unpleasant to hear.
Before Ouyang Zixin could ask again, the person struck without hesitation. This time it wasn't just a gust of wind; an Azure Profound Energy rippled out from them, controlling a dark and shapeless Mystical Artifact that charged toward Ouyang Zixin.
The Azure Profound Energy created ripples in the air. Although it seemed slow at first glance, in just a breath's time, it was already right in front of Ouyang Zixin.
In a hurry, Ouyang Zixin had no choice but to channel Mysterious Energy to block the attack head-on. She never expected this person would strike without a word.
The black Mystical Artifact collided with Ouyang Zixin's arm, causing her to grunt in pain. A metallic taste surged from her chest, and she spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, which splattered onto the Mystical Artifact.
Strangely enough, after being splashed with her blood, the previously dull Mystical Artifact began to shimmer, even causing the cloaked figure to raise an eyebrow in surprise.
"Interesting," the person's voice was as unpleasant as their laughter, grating like a blunt object scraping against glass, making one feel uncomfortable all over.
In mid-air, the Mystical Artifact spun and launched another attack, this time aimed directly at Ouyang Zixin's heart.
This was an attempt to kill!
At such close range, it was already difficult for Ouyang Zixin to block one strike; now, with this sudden follow-up attack, she found herself unable to defend. She could only twist her body to avoid a direct hit to her heart, allowing the Mystical Artifact to crash into her shoulder instead.
Crack.
A sharp sound of breaking bone echoed. Ouyang Zixin realized her shoulder might be fractured or even shattered. But at that moment, she had no time to dwell on that; surviving was her primary concern.
Now, Ouyang Zixin felt a pang of regret. She shouldn't have returned out of spite; otherwise, she wouldn't have encountered this strange person.
The sounds of the fight were quite loud, and they were less than half a mile from Luoping Village. The glow of Mysterious Energy had already pierced through the night sky, yet no one came to help. This made Ouyang Zixin's heart sink... (To be continued.)
