"Would you like to come in for a cup of tea?"
It must have been difficult for her, as she realized she had never invited anyone inside for a drink. Remembering this, she turned around to open the door to the Study and asked Liu Ying and Liu Lu to prepare some snacks.
Once they were seated, there was a moment of silence until Liu Ying and Liu Lu returned, breaking the deadlock.
"What are you doing in Exiled Nation?"
If his destination was the Imperial Capital, why did he leave first?
Ouyang Zixin's beautiful eyes shifted mischievously as she asked, "Did you just arrive, or have you been here for a while?"
Yun Tianmo picked up a cup of tea and took a light sip. The taste was acceptable, and he finally looked up with satisfaction, casually stating that he had been there since early morning.
Then he must know about what happened at the city gate.
Seeing that Yun Tianmo seemed to have given no favorable treatment to the people from Dream Nation, Ouyang Zixin speculated that this incident should have nothing to do with him.
"They arrived today." The summer breeze outside continued to blow against the window frame, accompanied by creaking sounds. Yun Tianmo frowned slightly; he wasn't worried about eavesdroppers but wondered why Ouyang Zixin always preferred to keep the window open.
The "they" he referred to naturally meant Nangong Tuo and his group.
"What does that have to do with me?" Ouyang Zixin tilted her head, her fingertips sliding over the rim of her cup.
This girl was clearly very intelligent, yet why did every conversation with her feel so exhausting?
Yun Tianmo simply set down his teacup and looked at her intently until she felt goosebumps all over before finally saying, "Have Ouyang Hao deal with them as soon as possible."
"Eh?"
Pointing at her own nose, Ouyang Zixin found it somewhat amusing and said, "Do you think I'm a messenger? Why don't you say it yourself?"
It turned out he was looking for her father, so he should have gone to the study. Why come to her Study? Besides, did she look like someone who would participate in such matters?
After thinking for a moment, Yun Tianmo figured that Ouyang Zixin must have another purpose. She straightened her posture and slightly leaned toward him, saying, "Just say what you need to say."
If he continued to be so tight-lipped, she feared she wouldn't fully understand his meaning.
Instinctively, when Ouyang Zixin suddenly leaned closer, Yun Tianmo wanted to retreat. But then she reconsidered and held her ground, not moving. "Those people's target is not you."
She had known about the commotion at the city gate that day; the intelligence received indicated that those people had planned to confront Nangong Tuo. She just didn't know why they ended up encountering Ouyang Zixin instead.
Fortunately, she was smart enough not to act recklessly and had Ning Zhiyuan invite Ouyang Hao. If Ouyang Hao hadn't intervened at that time, Ouyang Zixin would have been unable to escape the ensuing trouble.
With so many witnesses that day, if things had escalated into violence and someone got hurt or killed, she wondered if she'd ever dare meddle in others' affairs again.
"Nangong Tuo? Or Baike?" At this point, Ouyang Zixin should have understood. If not, she would truly be foolish.
No wonder those people said they were coming to the Capital of the Departed Nation; Nangong Tuo had directly given up on bringing her along. It seemed he wasn't as brainless as he usually appeared.
But why did it turn out to be her?
"Stop thinking about it. It's not aimed at your father; your appearance is merely a coincidence."
Seeing the expression on Ouyang Zixin's face as if she were about to cramp up made Yun Tianmo realize she must have misunderstood again. She picked up the teapot and poured herself another cup of tea, gently blowing on it. The tea without flowers or herbs indeed had a simpler taste.
The steam from Yun Tianmo's breath blew right onto Ouyang Zixin's face, causing her cheeks to flush slightly. Only then did she remember to sit up straight and stop leaning toward Yun Tianmo.
Yun Tianmo did not notice this scene; he was just thinking about whether it was good to tell her these things. He had been hesitant before coming here. Now seemed like a decent time, but it definitely wasn’t the best time.
However, for some reason, he found himself here as he walked.
“Did you come by a few days ago?”
Yun Tianmo was taken aback by the question. How did she know?
“You were seen by Lin Ma, and then Lin Ma gossiped about it to my mother.” It was indeed him. Ouyang Zixin felt something unusual in her heart; since he had already come once and met her father, why was he here again?
“Miss.”
Outside the door, Liu Lvy's voice rang out, causing Ouyang Zixin to momentarily forget to continue asking. She stood up and said, “Have they finished talking? How many people came?”
If her father and Ning Zhiyuan came together, it would be easier; she could just let Yun Tianmo explain himself.
“Sir went to accompany the lady.”
Only Ning Zhiyuan came?
Ouyang Zixin felt a bit troubled. She pursed her lips and winked at Yun Tianmo, saying, “Should we avoid him?”
She hadn’t thought about hiding anything from Liu Ying and Liu Lu, but Ning Zhiyuan was different. Although she wasn’t a rigid person, she didn’t want to be misunderstood as having something with Yun Tianmo.
Such situations where they met without going through the front door had happened before, but they had never been caught, so it was better to be cautious.
Without saying a word, Yun Tianmo stood up and prepared to leave. When he reached the door, he turned slightly and asked, “Do you remember?”
“Just because I say it doesn’t mean he’ll understand the reason,” Ouyang Zixin replied. She had confidence in her father; after all, someone who could reach such a position couldn’t only have cultivation matters in their head.
How much does Yun Tianmo really understand about Ouyang Hao? Ouyang Zixin has a rough idea in his heart. Recalling their conversation from that day, he believes that Ouyang Hao must have understood his meaning.
Ning Zhiyuan soon arrived. After glancing at the two teacups on the table, he shifted his gaze and smiled, "Why didn't you add any herbs today?"
Ouyang Zixin couldn't be bothered to say much. They were all smart people; the more they talked, the more mistakes they would make. He directly had Liu Ying and Liu Lu come in to clear the table and rearrange the tea set before inviting Ning Zhiyuan to sit down and enjoy some tea.
"Don't you want to ask anything?" Ning Zhiyuan looked at the calm Ouyang Zixin leisurely.
Shaking his head, Ouyang Zixin indicated that he was really not interested and continued to focus on pouring tea.
"Dream Nation was severely suppressed a few years ago." Regardless of whether Ouyang Zixin was listening, Ning Zhiyuan began speaking for himself. "This involved the Exiled Nation's Sovereign. Although you managed to avoid it at that time, Yun Tianmo..."
In earlier years, Ouyang Hao indeed retreated quite a bit due to matters concerning Ouyang Zixin. However, his retreat did not mean that things would not come back to him.
Moreover, it now also involved Ouyang Zixin.
"You’re talking about Yun Tianmo? How is he related?" Ouyang Zixin wasn't surprised to hear his name at this moment; he just thought back to how young he was during those events. Did he really team up with the Exiled Nation's Sovereign?
Seeing that Ouyang Zixin finally showed some interest, even if it wasn't because of him, Ning Zhiyuan still felt pleased. Sometimes, being overly protected isn’t necessarily a good thing. (To be continued.)
