Throughout the day, Ouyang Zixin was meditating. Ning Zhiyuan was bored and wandered alone at the top of Lingchi Peak for quite a while. He returned just as Ouyang Zixin was waking up from her meditation in the evening.
"I’ve been meditating for so long." Stretching her back, Ouyang Zixin asked Liu Ying to bring her some Azure Leaf Tea and inquired, "A Three, where are we ambushing tonight?"
Ning Zhiyuan was sitting with one leg bent under him, reclining against a large tree. He had a piece of grass he found somewhere in his mouth and said with a smile, "I found a cave. During the day, I could vaguely hear some noises coming from inside, but I didn’t go in."
To avoid having their hunt disrupted again, Ning Zhiyuan had spent the entire day scouting and finally found a concealed spot. If they ambushed there at night, they likely wouldn’t encounter anyone else.
"Everyone?" Ouyang Zixin's eyes lit up; she seemed eager to try.
"Girl, that White Bear Beast isn’t easy to come across. However, I suspect that the Mystical Beast inside that cave is probably not simple either." Ning Zhiyuan spat out the grass from his mouth. His mischievous and rogue-like demeanor seemed completely natural as he spoke. "Think about it; the Mystical Beasts at the top of Lingchi Peak are all high-level ones. Only powerful creatures can occupy such a mountain."
Ouyang Zixin felt delighted upon hearing this. She quickly jumped up from the ground, brushed off the dust on her clothes, and pulled Ning Zhiyuan along to lead the way.
Seeing her urgency made Ning Zhiyuan chuckle. "What’s the rush? You need to let me fill my stomach first so I have the energy to hunt."
"Miss, you haven’t eaten all day either. The young master is right; it’s better to eat first before going." Liu Ying and Liu Lu chimed in with smiles and quickly began preparing food.
Under Ouyang Zixin's urging, they hastily ate a few bites before setting off towards the cave that Ning Zhiyuan mentioned.
The moon hung above the treetops as Ouyang Zixin and her companions arrived near the cave.
"Don't you think the moon looks a bit strange tonight?" Ouyang Zixin looked up at the sky, feeling puzzled. No matter how she looked at it, she sensed something off about the moon. But what exactly was wrong?
Ning Zhiyuan also looked up after hearing her words, and after a moment, he shook his head and said, "The moon waxes and wanes; what's so strange about that?"
"Nameless."
—Master. Nameless felt nothing unusual either.
Could it be that she was just overthinking it?
Ouyang Zixin shook her head, trying to dismiss the strange feeling in her mind.
"Buzz—"
Something was wrong.
Seeing Ouyang Zixin's expression suddenly turn grim, Ning Zhiyuan hurried over to support her. "Girl, what's wrong?"
A warning sound.
Since they had left the secret realm, the warning in her mind had seemingly disappeared for a long time; why was it appearing now?
After holding her forehead in silence for a while, Ouyang Zixin furrowed her brows tightly, a thin layer of sweat forming on her skin. "I have a bad feeling."
Liu Ying and Liu Lu had not heard Ouyang Zixin mention this matter in years, and at that moment, they were unaware of what had happened to make the young lady's face turn so pale and unappealing in an instant.
"If you're not feeling well, we can skip the hunt and leave," Ning Zhiyuan said anxiously, unconsciously tightening his grip as his tone grew urgent.
Ouyang Zixin, being pulled along by Ning Zhiyuan, lost her balance and twisted her ankle, crying out in pain.
"What happened?" Ning Zhiyuan quickly turned to look back upon hearing her exclamation.
"I twisted my ankle."
"How did you twist your ankle when everything was fine?" Ning Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow and crouched down to check. "Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be a serious injury."
"Young lady, let me help you walk," Liu Ying and Liu Lu stepped forward, each offering their support.
Seeing the three of them so anxious, Ouyang Zixin forced a smile and said, "Could it be that my unfortunate constitution has returned?"
Only Ning Zhiyuan, who had been through the secret realm, understood this remark and chuckled. "Only you could still laugh after getting hurt."
It seemed that tonight's hunt was going to be canceled.
Ouyang Zixin sighed softly as she slowly walked back with the support of the two maidservants, puzzled about what that warning meant and why she had twisted her ankle for no apparent reason.
"Buzz—"
It came again.
Ouyang Zixin paused, making a gesture for the other three to be silent.
After sensing for a moment with her eyes closed, Ouyang Zixin looked up at the moon in the sky and finally realized what was wrong with it.
The moon was blood-red.
"We need to hurry," Ouyang Zixin said, suppressing the pain in her ankle and urging the others to quicken their pace. Something unusual was likely to happen tonight.
However, they had barely walked half a mile when a gust of wind blocked their path.
—Master.
"Is it too late?" Ouyang Zixin gritted her teeth, several thoughts flashing through her mind about how to leave this place as quickly as possible.
—Yes.
Ning Zhiyuan looked at the fierce wind ahead and extended his Mysterious Energy in an attempt to penetrate it, but the wind seemed to have a mind of its own, scattering all of his Mysterious Energy.
"This wind..." Ouyang Zixin also noticed the strange nature of the wind. There had been no breeze at Lingchi Peak until just now; this sudden gust made her feel extremely uneasy.
"Buzz—"
What are you buzzing about? Every time it buzzes without properly warning what danger lies ahead, it only makes people anxious. And now, I’ve twisted my ankle.
Ouyang Zixin was infuriated by this warning sound. There was no way back into the cave now, and with the fierce wind blocking their way forward, they could only find another place to hide for the time being.
But what exactly should they be avoiding?
"To the west, there's a small thicket over there. Let's go there," Ouyang Zixin pointed to the west, signaling everyone to move in that direction.
"Woo—whoosh—woo—"
The strong wind swept through the branches and leaves, and the howling sound of the wind grew louder. No matter how fast or slow Ouyang Zixin and the others moved, it felt as if the wind was always closely following them, neither too far nor too near.
"Damn it, is this for real? Why is the wind following us?" Ouyang Zixin glanced back, and to her shock, the fierce wind was indeed moving along with them, never leaving their side.
"Girl, it seems like there's something in that wind," Ning Zhiyuan frowned. He had been maintaining his Mysterious Energy outward all along, but he couldn't penetrate into the core of that fierce wind; he could only vaguely sense that there was something else within it.
Something in the wind?
Ouyang Zixin was focused on forging ahead and hadn't paid as much attention to the wind behind them as Ning Zhiyuan had. Hearing this now, a thought seemed to rise in her mind, but before she could grasp it, it vanished again.
"Forget it, let's just run."
So they quickened their pace and flew toward the thicket in the west. (To be continued.)
