"Dead?" When Baike arrived at the scene with her people, like Nameless, she only saw the aftermath of a fierce battle, blood everywhere, and the corpse of the White Bear Beast.
"Reporting to the Legitimate Young Lady, the body of the White Bear Beast is still warm, but its gallbladder has been taken." The guard who was ordered to check returned to report. Baike would not look at the bloody scene for more than a moment.
"Only took the bear's gallbladder?" Her beautiful brows furrowed tightly, and Baike's voice suddenly turned cold. "This White Bear Beast is rare nowadays; who would be so bold as to kill it and only take the gallbladder?"
"My subordinate observed that the White Bear Beast was covered in wounds. Perhaps the intruder looked down on its incomplete hide, so..."
"Hmph, looked down on it? How many people dare to say they look down on that hide after entering Lingchi Peak?" Baike snorted coldly. "Is it possible to find out who did this?"
The guard carefully explained the situation, and only then did Baike realize that despite the chaos here and seemingly numerous traces, there were actually no useful clues left behind. It seemed that the perpetrator was a very cautious person who also wanted to confuse any later arrivals.
"Investigate! I must know into whose hands that bear gallbladder has fallen." Glancing at the guard kneeling on one knee, Baike instructed, "You act alone for now. Report any news immediately."
Taking the remaining four guards with her, Baike retraced her steps; she had lost all interest in hunting tonight.
As she passed by the spot where she had encountered Ouyang Zixin earlier, Baike stopped and thoughtfully surveyed the area.
"Legitimate Young Lady?" The four guards did not understand why she wanted to linger here. If they were not going to hunt tonight, it would be better to return to their lodging quickly. Otherwise, if they encountered a powerful Mystical Beast drawn by the essence of the moon, they would be unprepared and likely unable to cope.
"Look around; can you still see signs of someone lingering here for a long time?" Baike clearly remembered seeing many footprints on the ground earlier, made by Ouyang Zixin and her companions during their stay. But now it seemed different. The footprints were still there; she just felt something was off.
Upon hearing Baike's words, the guards began to examine their surroundings. After a moment, they reported that there was nothing suspicious about these footprints. It was clear that they had only come this far and lingered for a moment. Then there was an encounter between two groups of people, and after Baike left, they did not continue forward but instead changed direction and left.
"Changed direction." Baike lowered her head in contemplation. Her eyes were still not focused on the footprints on the ground when she suddenly recalled something that Ouyang Zixin had said during their chance encounter. Clenching her fists, a flash of anger crossed her eyes. "Good job, Ouyang Zixin. You got your hands dirty and pretended to let me chase that White Bear Beast."
The reason Ouyang Zixin hadn't brought anyone to see the fight was that she was afraid of being seen and misunderstood as the one behind it. However, unexpectedly, even without going, she was still misinterpreted, and this misunderstanding later brought her significant trouble.

"When does the essence of this month last until?" Ouyang Zixin followed Ning Zhiyuan around Lingchi Peak but didn't encounter a single Mystical Beast. Was this night going to be wasted?
Mud fell from Ning Zhiyuan's face as he spat out some mud water and grinned, "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"You say it's easygoing, but can we afford to be relaxed? Didn't you see Baike? She clearly isn't simple; if I run into her tonight, who knows if she'll pin the White Bear incident on me." Ouyang Zixin casually mentioned this without realizing that she had already grasped the truth at that moment.
"Hey? Speaking of Baike, she's the one you mentioned last time, the consort of the Ink King? How do you know that?" Ning Zhiyuan suddenly darted over to Ouyang Zixin's side with an eager expression of wanting to know.
Ouyang Zixin unceremoniously slapped him on the face and forcefully pushed him away. "Why are you so curious? Don't you know that curiosity killed the cat?"
"Haha, I don't know about curiosity killing cats, but I certainly don't think much of a few mice." Ning Zhiyuan suddenly burst into laughter, but his laughter sounded devoid of joy and instead filled with a threatening undertone.
Were these people here to hunt or to ambush? Why were they always following him? Just as one group left, another arrived; couldn't they let someone be curious in peace for a moment?
"Ouyang Zixin, you dare come back!" A few people indeed jumped out from the nearby woods.
Leading them was none other than Zhao Feiyu, and standing beside her was none other than Sito Rongyan.
Unbeknownst to a few of them, they had circled back to the place where they first encountered the White Bear Beast. It was unexpected that these two individuals still had the audacity to linger in this area.
"Haha, so it's you two. What, still lying in wait here?" Ning Zhiyuan found it somewhat amusing to see them. They had been lying in ambush for an entire night, lost five guards, and yet hadn’t even caught a glimpse of the White Bear's dark hide.
"This is none of your business, get lost!" Zhao Feiyu glared at him. She was there to find Ouyang Zixin and completely disregarded this beggar.
"Miss Zhao, are you this arrogant? Do your parents know?" Ouyang Zixin looked at Zhao Feiyu, who no longer had any guards with her, and truly couldn’t understand why she could still be so domineering.
"Ouyang Zixin, stop with the nonsense! It’s you who deceived me and caused me to lose five guards. I want your life in return!" Her eyes were filled with bloodshot rage as she stared intensely at Ouyang Zixin.
"Sister Zhao, don’t be too upset; be careful not to hurt yourself," Sito Rongyan said with concern from the side, her worried expression truly made one admire their sisterhood.
"Miss Zhao, you’re wronging me. I did warn you at that time; after a moment..." Ouyang Zixin completely rejected Zhao Feiyu's accusations. She had kindly advised them to give up, but they refused. Now that people were dead, they turned around and blamed her.
"Ouyang Zixin, how can you say such irresponsible things? Those were five lives!" Sito Rongyan seemed to be provoked by Ouyang Zixin's words; her eyes reddened as tears began to fall, continuing to accuse Ouyang Zixin of being heartless.
Seeing this, Zhao Feiyu could no longer contain her anger and was about to charge at Ouyang Zixin when she was held back by Sito Rongyan.
"Let go! I must seek justice for those guards!" Zhao Feiyu had lost her rationality at this point; all she could think about was causing trouble for Ouyang Zixin, completely unaware that she was now alone and unarmed.
"Come if you dare!" Ouyang Zixin scoffed at Zhao Feiyu's frantic barking like a stray dog. If she wanted to fight, then let her come. (To be continued.)
