"You, I only let you get muddy, how come..." Ouyang Zixin wanted to reach out to pull him, but he was covered in mud from head to toe, making it impossible to grab hold of him.
Although Ning Zhiyuan had turned into a mud person, his aura remained undiminished, making it seem like being covered in mud was an honor.
"It's fine, I just happened to see a mud pit and jumped in for a roll; it actually saves trouble," Ning Zhiyuan said nonchalantly, not feeling that there was anything wrong with his actions.
"What exactly did you say to him?" Ouyang Zixin waved her hand, urging Ning Zhiyuan to come closer, and asked in a lowered voice.
"I didn't say anything."
Ouyang Zixin didn't believe him. "If you didn't say anything, why did you use Mysterious Energy to block it off?"
This A Three must have sold her out.
"Why would I lie to you? I really didn’t say anything; it’s just that I couldn’t beat him and was willing to accept defeat," Ning Zhiyuan said with a smile as he looked at Ouyang Zixin's skeptical expression. "Why are you so suspicious?"
"Of course! What if you sold me out?" Just thinking about that possibility made Ouyang Zixin feel uneasy. Earlier, she had rambled on without thinking, and she had no idea how that ice mountain would deal with her. If he found out that she had sent A Three to confront him, she feared her fate would be dire.
"Haha, Girl, even if I sold myself out, I wouldn't sell you. Besides, who would I sell you to? Yun Tianmo?" Ning Zhiyuan found Ouyang Zixin's thoughts amusing. He cherished her too much to ever consider selling her off, especially not to someone like Yun Tianmo.
"Really didn’t say anything at all?" Ouyang Zixin scrutinized Ning Zhiyuan suspiciously.
What Ning Zhiyuan had discussed with Yun Tianmo was likely known only to the two of them. After Ning Zhiyuan repeatedly assured Ouyang Zixin, she temporarily chose to believe him.
"It's getting late; we should prepare," Ning Zhiyuan said as the mud on him began to dry and fell off in clumps as he walked, creating a rather comical sight.
Ouyang Zixin then remembered that the High-Level Mystic Beasts at Lingchi Peak were active at night to absorb the essence of the moon. With the sun setting, it was indeed time to get ready.
——————————————————
"Are we just lying here?" Ouyang Zixin looked to the left. There were a few people lying there as well. "They're right next to us. What if the Mystical Beast comes out? Who gets it?"
Ning Zhiyuan was covered in mud, and lying down gave him a bit of a warrior vibe; if you didn't look closely, you wouldn't even notice there was a person there.
"Whoever moves first gets it," Ning Zhiyuan glanced in the direction Ouyang Zixin pointed. "What's wrong? Are you afraid you can't beat them?"
Ning Zhiyuan didn't know who the people on the left were, but Ouyang Zixin did. They were Zhao Feiyu, who was known to be close with Sito Rongyan. She had no idea when Zhao Feiyu had climbed to the top of Lingchi Peak, but since she didn't have a good impression of Sito Rongyan, she naturally felt the same way about Zhao Feiyu. Ouyang Zixin didn't like her either, especially since she was likely one of those who had drugged her back then.
Ouyang Zixin curled her lip in disdain. "Afraid of them? Ha! Are you joking? I just find them unpleasant."
A rustling sound suddenly broke the silence, and Ouyang Zixin instantly focused, her eyes shining as she scanned the surroundings, ready to pounce on any Mystical Beast that appeared.
"Sister Zhao."
It turned out it wasn't a Mystical Beast that had appeared; it was Sito Rongyan looking for Zhao Feiyu.
Ouyang Zixin rolled her eyes and cursed inwardly, annoyed that what she disliked had come right to her.
"Rong Yan, lie down and don't make a sound," Zhao Feiyu hadn't intentionally chosen to position herself near Ouyang Zixin; it was merely a coincidence that she was hiding there.
"Yes, Sister Zhao." Sito Rongyan initially didn't realize that the person lying on the right was Ouyang Zixin; she only frowned at how both groups were gathered together. If the Mystical Beast appeared now, it would be troublesome.
So she leaned closer to Zhao Feiyu's ear and whispered that if they could drive those people away, their side wouldn't have to worry about them competing for the Mystical Beast.
However, Zhao Feiyu dismissed her thoughts. Capturing a Mystical Beast wasn't about who arrived first or who was more skilled; besides, their side had twelve people while the other only had four. There was no need for concern.
"Girl, do they think we can't hear them talking?" Ning Zhiyuan wasn't trying to eavesdrop; it was just that those two women were being too careless. He couldn't tell if they looked down on his group's abilities or if they thought their side was strong enough not to worry about being overheard.
"The world of the Second Master is beyond your understanding." Ouyang Zixin had seen too many self-righteous people, especially in the Yuhai Continent, where they felt superior simply because of their family background and looked down on others without any surprise.
"Second Master?" Ning Zhiyuan frowned, puzzled by the term.
As he furrowed his brow, some powder fell from his forehead, along with a sizable chunk of mud that dropped with a faint sound.
"They're here." Zhao Feiyu was startled by the noise, her voice trembling with excitement.
"Miss, it's not a Mystical Beast." A guard glanced to the right, indicating to Zhao Feiyu that the sound came from that direction.
Zhao Feiyu had some cultivation but not much. Capturing a High-Level Mystic Beast was an impossible task for her, so even the slightest disturbance made her nerves tense.
"Sister Zhao, see? I told you to let them change locations, but you didn't believe me." Sito Rongyan, though willful, had slightly higher cultivation than Zhao Feiyu; she just usually restrained herself in front of her.
"You go and tell them to move." Zhao Feiyu tossed a piece of food aside in annoyance and instructed one of the guards.
After a while, the guard returned and whispered something in Zhao Feiyu's ear. Her face immediately flushed red, and her body trembled slightly as she crouched in the grass.
"Unaware of their own insignificance." Zhao Feiyu's face turned red with anger. The guard had brought back a refusal; the other party even said they would rely on their own abilities. Why should they move? If they wanted to leave, they could let Zhao Feiyu take her people away.
Zhao Feiyu was particularly furious because the guard mentioned that those refusing to leave looked like beggars covered in mud. How could someone without status or identity dare to reject her request? It was simply courting death.
"Sister Zhao, what's wrong?" Sito Rongyan cautiously asked upon seeing Zhao Feiyu so angry.
"Hmph, someone doesn't know what's good for them. If it comes to blows later, don't blame me for being ruthless," Zhao Feiyu said loudly enough for those on the right to hear.
Hmph. Courting death.
In the shadows, Yun Tianmo, who had remained unnoticed, snorted coldly and swiftly disappeared into the night.
As midnight approached, the commotion at the top of Lingchi Peak began to grow.
"Almost there," Ouyang Zixin whispered to Ning Zhiyuan, who seemed on the verge of falling asleep, determined not to make a mistake this time.
"Don't rush," Ning Zhiyuan replied casually, glancing to the left. "Some people are eager to charge in. Let's watch the show first."
Sure enough, Zhao Feiyu and Sito Rongyan's group were getting restless. It looked like they would send someone charging out as soon as a Mystical Beast appeared.
Thud, thud, thud...
A heavy sound of footsteps echoed, completely different from the sounds made by the Mystical Beasts they had heard earlier. It seemed that a big fellow was approaching.
In the Yuhai Continent, large Mystical Beasts were not unheard of, but they had become extremely rare. It was unexpected to encounter one right at the top of Lingchi Peak.
"Go!" A sharp command rang out as Zhao Feiyu, eager to capture the Mystical Beast, ordered her people to charge out before the creature even arrived.
In an instant, the top of Lingchi Peak became lively as five burly men shot out like arrows. Judging by their stance, they seemed quite capable.
"All show and no substance," Ning Zhiyuan remarked, pointing at the five men. "They're going full speed now, but once they get close to that big fellow, they might not be able to accelerate again."
"Yeah, it's more likely to win by speed against that big guy. If it comes down to strength..." Ouyang Zixin frowned. Didn't Zhao Feiyu understand? Wasn't it obvious that charging in so early sacrificed their advantage?
"Look, they've engaged." Just as they were discussing, Zhao Feiyu's team faced off against the large creature.
It was a bear-like Mystical Beast with snow-white fur that shimmered faintly orange under the moonlight. Its large eyes glowed with an eerie red light. Upon seeing the five men rushing toward it, it let out a deafening roar.
"Hiss—" One of the burly men was struck on the back by the Bear-like Mystical Beast, causing him to convulse in pain as blood sprayed out instantly. The encirclement that had formed around it was broken, leaving an opening.
"What is this Mystical Beast called?" Ouyang Zixin asked curiously, having never seen such a large Mystical Beast before.
“Girl, this Mystical Beast has quite a background. During the chaotic times, it once dominated a region. Although its numbers are few, its power is formidable, especially that fur of its, comparable to high-quality Mystical Artifacts,” Ning Zhiyuan explained in detail to Ouyang Zixin about the creature before them. “This one is already high-level, but judging by its appearance, it seems to have just recently advanced; otherwise, it wouldn’t have made an opening to escape.”
“Can you get to the point?” Ouyang Zixin rolled her eyes. Anyone could see how impressive that fur was.
“The point? Isn’t what I said already the point?” Ning Zhiyuan was taken aback; he thought he was being quite informative. “Also, look at the orange glow on its body; that’s something only High-Level Mystic Beasts possess. It’s similar to the Mysterious Energy used in human cultivation.”
“Name!” Ouyang Zixin could no longer tolerate it. This A Three just kept rambling without getting to the important part.
“Oh, the name! Let me think… what was it called?” Ning Zhiyuan finally realized what Ouyang Zixin was asking. “It’s been so long; I think it’s called the White-Furred Giant Bear…”
Wow, naming it based on its appearance is so typical of Ouyang Zixin.
“Look, it’s about to run away.” Ouyang Zixin's eyes were fixed ahead as she quickly noticed that the White Bear Beast was trying to flee.
The other four men swiftly repositioned themselves to cover for their injured companion. The man wouldn’t have been hurt if he hadn’t hesitated while moving behind the White Bear Beast, which allowed it to strike him directly.
“Roar—” The White Bear Beast saw itself surrounded again and let out an enraged roar, its footsteps growing louder and more intense as it charged toward the injured man, aiming to take him down first.
Beasts of this level often possess some intelligence; they understand the principle of picking on the weak.
The man with his back injured was currently trying to heal himself, his Mysterious Energy at its peak. Seeing that his companions couldn’t hold off the White Bear Beast, he panicked and coughed up blood.
The smell of blood successfully provoked the White Bear Beast further; its eyes glowed redder as it roared and swung a paw at him.
The man rolled on the ground and gathered his Mysterious Energy beneath him in an attempt to escape, but for some reason, his speed was surpassed by that of the White Bear Beast. Just as he tried to get up, he was forcefully slammed back down by the White Bear Beast's paw, half of his body sinking into the ground.
“Puff—”
The paw strike from the Mysterious Energy-imbued White Bear Beast caused the man to bleed from all seven orifices as he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Seeing the situation was critical, the other four rushed forward to save him. However, the White Bear Beast swung its other paw wildly, making them hesitate to approach.
"What should we do? Big Tiger is going to be beaten to death!" As they watched their good brother potentially facing death at the hands of the Mystical Beast, the four men couldn't help but feel anxious.
"We were careless; we can only fight back now." The four exchanged glances and simultaneously attacked the White Bear Beast.
"Wow, that Mystical Artifact is so big, and he can control it!" Ouyang Zixin exclaimed excitedly, feeling a rush of adrenaline.
"When it comes to controllers, bigger isn't always better; it can lack sensitivity," Ning Zhiyuan scoffed at the person controlling it. In his eyes, only a brute would use such a large Mystical Artifact, which looked impressive but was ineffective.
"Ouyang Zixin?" Sito Rongyan realized that the person ambushing nearby was her nemesis, causing her to lose interest in the fight ahead.
Zhao Feiyu, seeing his men about to be lost, felt anxious. Hearing Sito Rongyan still had time to care about others made him furious: "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and send someone to support them!"
Although the four were doing their best to save the guard named Big Tiger, he was already breathing weakly. They dared not act too recklessly for fear of accidentally injuring Big Tiger. Meanwhile, the White Bear Beast was driven mad by bloodlust and was momentarily at a disadvantage.
"Exactly, Miss Situ, aren't you going to send someone to save Sister Zhao's people? If they die later, it won't be good," Ouyang Zixin couldn't understand how Sito Rongyan could still provoke others at such a critical moment.
"Hmph, no need for you to say anything." Sito Rongyan initially didn't care about the guard's life or death. However, since Zhao Feiyu spoke up, she couldn't refuse and finally sent someone to help. (To be continued.)
