"How about I call you Nameless? Many heroes are called Nameless," Ouyang Zixin casually said. "We can't keep calling you 'you' or 'hey' all the time."
"That's fine." Nameless (Ouyang Gu Liang, you're just terrible at naming, Nameless, only you could consider this a good name to give someone.) didn't mind the title at all. If Ouyang Zixin wanted to call him that, so be it.
"Nameless, how did you end up in this Peach Blossom Spring within the secret realm?" They say you rely on friends when you go out, and now that there's a Nameless living here, Ouyang Zixin naturally wanted to inquire further; it was better than guessing blindly.
"Peach Blossom Spring in the secret realm? Is that what Miss Ouyang is referring to?" Nameless seemed confused about why he was there as well. "I don't know why I'm here either."
Huh? He doesn't know why he's here.
Is he joking? Ouyang Zixin felt a sense of helplessness in wanting to retort.
"Miss Ouyang, is that 'This Is a Humble Abode, Only My Virtue Is Fragrant' still around?" Nameless had somehow floated over and sat down at the table.
"Oh, you mean The Humble Room Inscription? Yes, do you want to hear it?" Ouyang Zixin initially thought that Nameless was quite rude for taking the only chair without inviting the guest to sit. But then she reconsidered; how could one expect manners from someone who didn't even have a name?
"I want to."
"Ahem, since you want to hear it, I'll recite it for you." Ouyang Zixin cleared her throat and mimicked the mannerisms of an old scholar as she recited:
"The Mountain Is Not High, There Are Immortals Who Make It Famous. Water Is Not Deep, There Are Dragons Who Make It Spiritual. This Is a Humble Abode, Only My Virtue Is Fragrant. Moss Green on the Steps, Grass Color Enters the Curtain Blue. Talk and Laugh with Great Scholars, No Commoners Among Us. You Can Have Qin of Simplicity, Golden Classics. No Clamor of Strings and Bamboo, No Burden of Official Documents. Nanyang Zhuge Cottage, Xichu Ziyun Pavilion. Confucius said: What is there to be ashamed of?"
After Ouyang Zixin finished reciting, she noticed that Nameless appeared deep in thought. For a moment, there was silence in the wooden house, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
He wouldn't want me to explain, would he? Ouyang Zixin thought. This is the crystallization of ancient wisdom; it's one thing to recite it, but explaining it might be a bit difficult.
"Indeed, it is a fine work. I didn't expect Miss Ouyang at such a young age to have such accomplishments," Nameless said.
Ouyang Zixin felt a bit embarrassed as she heard Nameless praise her. Although every person who has traveled through time has committed acts of plagiarism, this was her first time, and receiving compliments made her feel quite ashamed.
"However, this small room of yours does not deserve the 'Humble Room Inscription.' Miss Ouyang, you flatter me." Perhaps recalling the praise for this "humble room" in the poem, Nameless's voice sounded somewhat shy.
"Alright, alright, Nameless, let's stop flattering each other. Quickly tell me, do you really not know why you are here? And how did this small room come to be? Also, how do you live here all alone?" Ouyang Zixin worried that Nameless would continue discussing the plagiarized famous lines and bombarded him with questions.
"…"
Ouyang Zixin stared at Nameless, waiting for him to respond. Nameless also "looked" at Ouyang Zixin, his hazy face obscuring any expression. The two faced each other in silence for a while until Ouyang Zixin finally gave up on her questioning.
That night, Ouyang Zixin simply rested in the small room, while its owner, Nameless, seemed to have vanished without a trace.
By noon the next day, Nameless reappeared, bringing some food that looked unrecognizable and clear water from somewhere.
"Nameless, what are these things?" Ouyang Zixin asked as she held something that looked very much like broad beans, unsure if she should really eat it.
"Non-toxic and edible," Nameless replied. His sleeve brushed over a wooden tea bowl on the table; it was unclear what container he used for the water, but after his sleeve swept across it, one of the tea bowls was filled with clear water.
Pushing the tea bowl in front of Ouyang Zixin, Nameless added, "Stream water."
Ouyang Zixin tossed the broad beans into the air and opened her mouth to catch them. The taste was soft and sticky, completely different from the crispness of the broad beans; it resembled a cake made from glutinous rice.
"Did you make this? It's sweet. Why isn't there this kind of cake in the Yuhai Continent?" Ouyang Zixin asked while eating.
"I picked it," Nameless replied, unsure of what a cake was, "the fruit from the Azure Wood down the slope."
Azure Wood? Could it be those plants with colorful leaves she had seen?
"Why are the leaves colorful?" Since Nameless had picked the fruit from that plant, he should know about it, Ouyang Zixin quickly inquired.
Nameless was taken aback and asked in return, "Why are they colorful? What should they look like?"
Uh?
This question left Ouyang Zixin dumbfounded as well.
Before arriving at the Yuhai Continent, all the leaves she had seen were green. After coming to the Yuhai Continent, she had encountered purple bamboo leaves and red Bloodleaf Trees, which had become quite ordinary after a while.
Now that she was in this secret realm and saw the colorful leaves, it didn't seem strange at all.
"No, it's nothing. It should be like that," Ouyang Zixin said, pouting slightly and scolding herself for being so easily surprised.
After randomly eating some of the fruits that Nameless had brought, Ouyang Zixin pulled Nameless along to see the plant called Azure Wood.
The two of them walked towards Azure Wood, one in front and the other behind. From a distance, the colorful leaves shimmered under the sunlight, reflecting beams of light that resembled small rainbows suspended above Azure Wood.
Ouyang Zixin was completely captivated by this beautiful sight. Up close, Azure Wood was truly marvelous, a feast for the eyes.
Nameless, unlike Ouyang Zixin, seemed to have long been immune to the beauty of Azure Wood. Watching Ouyang Zixin gaze at it almost obsessively, he asked in confusion, "Is it really that beautiful?"
Ouyang Zixin murmured about how beautiful it was, which Nameless overheard. He then asked, "Doesn't the Yuhai Continent mentioned by Miss Ouyang have Azure Wood?"
For Nameless, Azure Wood was just an ordinary plant that bore fruit. It was beautiful, yes, but it was merely food.
"It's beautiful, so beautiful. I've never seen such a plant before; even in books, I've never seen anyone mention it," Ouyang Zixin said. Whether as an adult woman in her past life or as a little girl in the Yuhai Continent, she had an irresistible fondness for beautiful things.
Upon hearing this, Nameless fell silent. He wasn't curious about the Yuhai Continent that Ouyang Zixin spoke of; he simply hadn't expected such allure from something as ordinary as Azure Wood.
After watching for a while longer, Ouyang Zixin turned around to ask Nameless if she could pick a leaf to keep as a memento. After all, she didn't know how long she could stay in this Peach Blossom Land.
"You... your face..." Ouyang Zixin's expression of fascination froze when she looked at Nameless. Her voice trembled slightly as she said, "I can see your face clearly now..."
"My face?" Nameless looked at Ouyang Zixin in confusion. "Miss Ouyang can see my face?"
"Yes, I can see it clearly. What exactly are you?"
