"Here we are."
The sound of flowing water was not far away, and Yun Tianmo quickened his pace to end the boring conversation between the two behind him.
"So fast?" Ning Zhiyuan thought, surprised that they had arrived before Ouyang Zixin could even call out "brother." Although he had been lagging behind, he reached the riverbank before Ouyang Zixin.
The secret realm was indeed extraordinary; while the outside world was shrouded in wind and rain, here it was filled with the vibrant colors of spring, lush green grass, and the sweet sounds of birds and flowers. Although there were no small bridges, the water was clear enough to see the bottom. Not far away, there was a grove of trees, each bearing numerous round, colorful fruits.
A gentle breeze stirred the surface of the river, creating shimmering ripples. A little fish unexpectedly leaped out of the water with a splash before diving back in.
"Wow, there's a fish!" Ouyang Zixin, being small in stature, had fallen behind the two teenagers but finally made it to the riverbank just in time to see the jumping fish.
"What's wrong? Do you like fish?" Ning Zhiyuan turned around gracefully. The sunlight shone from behind him, enveloping him in a halo, while his somewhat seductive smile remained hidden in shadow. "Haven't you ever seen a river without fish? Or do you feel hungry just seeing one?"
"I have indeed seen rivers without fish. Listening to your question makes me wonder if the Third Prince has been cooped up in the capital all day and missed out on experiences. Besides, people are made of iron and rice is steel; even if one is hungry, what can be done? Could it be that despite your noble status, you have never tasted fresh fish? How rare!" Ouyang Zixin couldn't quite discern how much teasing lay behind his alluring smile, but that didn't stop her from firing back.
Not wanting to engage further with Ning Zhiyuan—who was mistakenly identified as the Third Prince—Ouyang Zixin squatted down by the river, splashing her small hands in the cool water. It felt refreshing not to face the endless expanse of white land every day.
"You..." Ning Zhiyuan hadn't expected that just one comment from him would lead to Ouyang Zixin's barrage of words, subtly implying that he was narrow-minded.
"Yun Mo Wang, I thought it was said that this girl is usually quiet; why is she talking so much? Quite impressive!" He almost misnamed her again. Seeing that Ouyang Zixin was too busy playing with the water to pay him any mind, he turned to complain to Yun Tianmo instead.
"When dealing with different people, one should use appropriate ways and attitudes. It's called speaking human language to humans and ghost language to ghosts. How come the Third Prince has never heard of this?" Before Yun Tianmo could respond, Ouyang Zixin shook off her hands and stood up again, laughing lightly as she spoke.
Yuhai Continent is not like the world of my previous life, which was filled with pollution. Back then, my favorite activity was swimming. Unfortunately, the seas, rivers, and streams were all nearly polluted, and swimming pools were overcrowded. Ouyang Zixin had to give up her preference.
Now, seeing the crystal-clear river and the little fish swimming in it, she couldn't help but feel delighted. Ning Zhiyuan teased her about being childlike, but Ouyang Zixin was not going to let him have an easy victory; even a verbal retort was necessary to ensure his defeat.
Hmph, you’re the one losing out! Third Prince.
Yun Tianmo originally did not want to pay attention to Ning Zhiyuan. This man appeared gentle and refined on the surface, but Yun Tianmo knew very well what kind of person he truly was.
However, upon hearing Ouyang Zixin say “talk to people as if they were people, and talk to ghosts as if they were ghosts,” her eyebrows raised slightly in interest as she glanced at her. It was easy to understand that one should use different methods with different people; as a member of the royal family, who didn’t live like this?
“That’s quite a fresh perspective.” Based on her understanding, Ouyang Zixin must have read it in some ancient text since she had been well-read since childhood. Yun Tianmo rarely praised anyone, but any slight dissatisfaction that had arisen from their previous murmurs had long since dissipated.
Having known Yun Tianmo for at least over a decade, was he actually complimenting Ouyang Zixin?
Ning Zhiyuan had only intended to make a joke; he never expected Ouyang Zixin to jump up as if someone had stepped on her tail. He didn’t know much about Ouyang Zixin, perhaps he had said something inappropriate, but what was going on with Yun Tianmo?
Stunned, Ning Zhiyuan suddenly felt his brain wasn’t keeping up; what was happening? Could it be that Yun Jiu, this kid, actually...
“Thank you for the compliment,” Ouyang Zixin said with a smile while squinting at Yun Tianmo.
The three of them wandered around for a moment to get a general understanding of their surroundings.
Although there was plenty of water near the small river and many fruits in the forest, there wasn't a proper cave. It would be fine to cultivate during the day, but at night, lacking shelter would be inconvenient. Moreover, it was uncertain whether it would rain in this secret realm; encountering rain would make things even more troublesome.
“Stay in the forest?!” Ouyang Zixin was startled by Yun Tianmo's decision. How could they stay in the forest? Sleep in trees? She certainly didn’t have the skill to ensure she wouldn’t fall while sleeping.
Looking at Ouyang Zixin's tearful face, Yun Tianmo and Ning Zhiyuan exchanged glances, not understanding why her reaction was so intense. Was it really that strange to live in the woods?
Come on, even if she was only six years old, she was still a girl! What was the big deal about living in the woods with two grown men?
"Isn't there anything prepared besides caves and the woods? No tents or anything?" Ouyang Zixin couldn't bring herself to say things like "men and women shouldn't be too close" or "men and women of different ages shouldn't share a seat," but living in the woods was really hard to accept.
What is a tent?
Seeing Ning Zhiyuan looking at her, Yun Tianmo shook his head, indicating he also didn't know what Ouyang Zixin meant by a tent.
"Forget it, forget it. It's pointless to talk to you guys. I'm going to pick some fruit." Ouyang Zixin sulkily fell silent, thinking that there probably wouldn't be any houses in this secret realm. Sigh...
"Does she usually have so many unfamiliar terms? I've never heard of them," Ning Zhiyuan said, watching Ouyang Zixin walk away with curiosity.
"Just ask her yourself." Yun Tianmo was also curious, but unfortunately, when they were at Rong Yi's place, Ouyang Zixin always avoided him, so they hadn't interacted much. Therefore, Yun Tianmo didn't want to answer Ning Zhiyuan's question and couldn't either.
"Ah..."
A scream came from somewhere nearby. The two who were practicing by the river suddenly opened their eyes and almost simultaneously moved toward the direction of the sound.
At that moment, Ouyang Zixin was lying face down on the ground, with a patch of bright red beside her...
