Chapter 25: A Few Dozens for Thousands
The entire hall was filled with colorful smoke, making it difficult to see the person in front of you unless you got closer. Both customers and staff had retreated outside, leaving the hall empty with tables and chairs scattered everywhere. Zhang Qiu and others tied on the damp black masks—equipment purchased during the Ancient City Battle—which served as a significant morale boost for the Hall Society brothers.
With a command from Zhang Qiu, Yang Yu, Gao Zhi, and Wang Zhengxiang raised their stools and began smashing them throughout the hall. The people on the second floor of Blue Demon Entertainment City noticed something was off as soon as the smoke appeared, but they dared not rush down. The image of evil invaders firing gas shells at our troops was deeply etched in everyone's minds; who knew what this smoke was?
Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue each grabbed a stool and smashed it against the glass, while Yang Yu picked up a bottle from the bar and threw it in all directions, the sound echoing throughout the hall.
“Damn it, charge down! Whoever catches someone gets ten thousand!” A frantic voice boomed from the second floor. With a heavy reward, some brave brothers immediately rushed into the smoke. When Zhang Qiu saw someone without a mask charging towards him, he swung his stool and shouted, “Go!”
Gao Zhi and Wang Zhengxiang immediately stopped what they were doing and ran outside. Zhang Qiu kicked away someone blocking his path and pulled Jiang Xue's hand as they rushed out. Yang Yu fished out a lighter from his pocket, ignited the last few secret weapons, and tossed them towards the second floor. Chaos erupted on the second floor as Brothers shouted, “Protect Brother Tiger!”
“Don’t worry about me! Go after them!”
Outside Blue Rose Entertainment City, the smoke began to disperse with the wind. Initially, people on the street avoided it, but soon they curiously returned to watch the smoke rising at the entrance and the sizzling balls on the ground. In that dark alley, Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, Yang Yu, Gao Zhi, and Wang Zhengxiang gathered together while Zhao Pingchuan waited here after releasing the smoke.
As the smoke cleared, Brothers from both inside and outside Blue Demon Entertainment City stood in the street, watching from a distance were vendors and pedestrians. A strong middle-aged man emerged from Blue Demon Entertainment City surrounded by Brothers; someone immediately lit a cigarette for him. The man took a deep drag and exhaled thick smoke while squinting at several lollipop-sized balls on the ground.
“Brother Tiger, here!”
Mao Tong handed one of the balls he picked up from the ground to Chen Hu. Chen Hu examined it closely; there was a two to three millimeter hole on this lollipop-sized ball where the smoke had been escaping. The packaging clearly read: Rainbow*, priced at fifty cents.
Chen Hu suddenly smashed the ball onto the ground and walked back into the store with a cold expression. Seeing this, Mao Tong hurriedly signaled his subordinates to follow him back inside. Most of the smoke inside Blue Rose Entertainment City had dissipated, leaving behind more Rainbow* balls on the ground. The hall was in disarray; tables and chairs were overturned everywhere, colorful glass shards littered the area, and the bar was completely wrecked. Equipment worth thousands on the mixing console was damaged beyond repair with buttons malfunctioning and various cables exposed to air. Chen Hu looked at all this and simply said coldly to close the door.
Mao Tong wisely helped lift a chair for Chen Hu to sit down. Once seated, two security heads knelt before Chen Hu despite being surrounded by glass shards on the floor. Chen Hu maintained a cold silence while panic showed in their eyes as they pleaded for mercy. Suddenly smirking, Chen Hu said, “You want me to spare you? Why should I? Open your eyes and take a good look at what state this place is in; is this what you call watching over?”
The kneeling head quickly explained, “Brother Tiger, I didn’t expect anyone would smash up the place! The hall suddenly filled with acrid smoke; I was afraid it was poison…”
“Yeah, Brother Tiger! This smoke is too sinister; even Brothers didn’t anticipate it.”
"Asshole! Poison gas? What a poison gas, Mao Tong!"
"Yes, Brother Tiger."
"Show them the gas canisters."
Mao Tong picked up two colored smoke bombs from the ground and held them in front of the two kneeling individuals. Chen Hu sternly said, "Open your eyes and see clearly what this is! These are toys sold at the entrance of the school for fifty cents each. It's these cheap things that scared you all away. Take a good look; this time, our losses are significant!"
"Brother Tiger, we were wrong; we know we were wrong."
The kneeling subordinates hurriedly pleaded for mercy. They were well aware of Brother Tiger's ruthlessness, and after making such a big mistake, they would either die or face severe consequences. They could only hope that Brother Tiger would show some leniency, considering they had put in some effort even if they had no achievements.
Chen Hu coldly watched the two subordinates bowing their heads until he saw blood flowing from their foreheads before he waved his hand to stop them, leaving behind a cold remark: "Find out who did this!"
The two subordinates watched Brother Tiger's figure as he went upstairs, finally feeling relieved as their hearts settled. Their clothes were already soaked with sweat. The nearby brothers helped them up, and they immediately began issuing orders: "Investigate; we must find out who did this."
"Yes!" Several subordinates immediately left.
"Go check the surveillance footage; pull up the recordings."
The two subordinates who had just been kneeling heard Mao Tong's suggestion and quickly agreed. They took out cigarettes and lit one for Mao Tong, chuckling as they said, "Brother Tong, we didn't handle this well in front of Brother Tiger; you need to say a few good words for us."
Mao Tong laughed heartily, "Sure, why would we need to do that among brothers? Just remember not to always bully me when playing cards in the future."
"Definitely, definitely."
Mao Tong followed the two leaders to the surveillance room. The footage they extracted left them astonished. In the short span of ten minutes during the incident, the footage in the hall was actually a repeat of the previous ten minutes! The two leaders immediately panicked, and one of them directly expressed his concern: "Who exactly have we offended?"
"Who else could it be but the enemy! You all stay here; I will report to Brother Tiger." Mao Tong said as he hurried off to find Chen Hu. Upon hearing that there was an issue with the surveillance footage, Chen Hu immediately realized that the situation was more serious than he had imagined. Who could have the audacity to cause such a ruckus and tamper with the footage in his establishment?
Surrounded by his subordinates, Chen Hu arrived at the monitoring room. The two heads responsible for the mistake quickly stepped aside to give Chen Hu space, greeting him with both respect and trepidation. Chen Hu merely nodded slightly, his expression serious as he sat down in a chair and said, "Show me the footage."
The technician replayed the footage, and Chen Hu said, "Play it again."
The technician complied and replayed it once more. Chen Hu furrowed his brows and remarked, "This is not simple; not simple at all."
Mao Tong leaned in and asked, "Brother Tiger, what do you mean?"
"This group is not ordinary. Before the footage malfunctioned, everything in the store was normal. What does that imply?" Chen Hu paused before continuing, "It means they had premeditated plans and were well-prepared. They took out our surveillance before causing any trouble. I just can't figure out who would go to such lengths against us."
Mao Tong suggested, "Brother Tiger, we did smash up the Stone Dagger Gang's place; could this be retaliation from them?"
"Weren't you the one who told me it was that rich second-generation heir they were after?"
"That's right, Brother Tiger."
Chen Hu thought for a moment and shook his head. "If that were the case, they would definitely start their investigation from him. Even if they eventually traced it back to us, it wouldn't be this quick. The brothers we sent are all new faces unless..."
"Unless what?"
Chen Hu stared at Mao Tong and said, "Unless they recognized you!"
Mao Tong was momentarily speechless.
Chen Hu ordered the technician, "Rewind the footage again and set it to half an hour ago; I want to see who was in the store."
"Yes." The technician operated the equipment, and the screen returned to forty minutes ago. At that time, in Blue Rose Entertainment City, the atmosphere was lively with dancing and singing. Waiters dressed in bikinis moved back and forth, while laser lights from the ceiling cast colorful beams on them, adding an extra layer of allure to the already seductive scene.
"Stop!"
Mao Tong suddenly shouted, and the technician instinctively pressed the pause button, freezing the image of a man and a woman entering the hall. Chen Hu looked at the shouting Mao Tong and realized there was a clue. He quickly asked, "What did you find?"
"It's him, Brother Tiger! It's him, Zhang Qiu! He did it, it must be him!" Mao Tong excitedly pointed at the screen, his finger trembling with excitement.
"Are you sure you didn't mistake him?" Chen Hu looked at the man and woman on the surveillance screen. Due to the lighting, the image wasn't very clear, but it was evident that both appeared to be students.
"I can't be mistaken about Brother Tiger; I'm too familiar with this guy. It's definitely him." Mao Tong's voice was filled with uncontrollable excitement, a mix of anger and impulsiveness. He was angry that Zhang Qiu kept crossing him and impulsive about wanting to seek revenge.
"Zhang Qiu, that leopard really is someone to watch out for!" Chen Hu's eyes flashed with a fierce light. He had heard about Stone Dagger Gang's second-in-command gathering a group of students; at that time, he didn't understand it. Now he saw that this Zhang Qiu indeed had his strengths.
Just as Chen Hu was pondering over Zhang Qiu, the door to the surveillance room was pushed open from the outside. A brother rushed in in a panic. Chen Hu glared at him and shouted, "What's wrong? Why are you so flustered?"
"Brother Tiger, it's bad! The police are here!"
