Chapter 145: Auntie's Purpose 0

Zhang Qiu looked at the unreasonable Auntie, a mix of sorrow and anger causing him a headache. "I'm thinking of a way. I won't let her down. I will save her. I will save her." 0

Seeing Zhang Qiu in such pain, Wang Jinghan felt an inexplicable pang of heartache. In just a few seconds, reason and impulse battled in her mind. Ultimately, impulse triumphed over reason. Unable to bear seeing Zhang Qiu so upset, Wang Jinghan stood up and shouted at Auntie, "Enough! You've been complaining that Zhang Qiu hasn't done anything. I want to ask you, what have you done for Jiang Xue? Besides throwing a tantrum here, what else have you done?" 0

Auntie suddenly stood up, angrily pointing at Zhang Qiu. "My niece ended up in this situation because of him! If I don't come looking for him, who should I look for? You little brat, still defending him? He deserves the same fate!" 0

As Auntie spoke, she failed to notice a tall figure standing behind her, who coldly said, "Auntie, I respect you, but you can't keep seeking your own demise!" 0

Hearing this made Auntie's back chill; she stepped aside in shock and steadied herself before saying, "What do you want? Am I right? You're furious now, aren't you?" 0

This was too outrageous. Just as Zhang Qiu was about to confront Auntie again, Wang Jinghan suddenly stepped forward and yanked the zipper of Zhang Qiu's oversized denim jacket down, pulling it back forcefully. The baggy jacket fell away, revealing Zhang Qiu's toned muscles and the wounds wrapped in layers of gauze. 0

Wang Jinghan pointed at the reddened part of the bandage and shouted at Auntie, "Do you see this? This is from trying to save Jiang Xue! How can you still say he hasn't done anything?" 0

"He got hurt trying to find the thugs who injured Jiang Xue to seek forgiveness. He even hurt himself to ease his pain! And you? As Jiang Xue's aunt, instead of helping, all you do is cause trouble! What are your true intentions?" 0

Wang Jinghan yelled passionately, her voice tinged with a hint of tears. The air suddenly thickened at that moment; not only was Auntie stunned by Wang Jinghan's outburst, but even Zhang Qiu was left bewildered. Suddenly, He Mei let out a startled cry and collapsed straight down. 0

"Mom!" Zhang Qiu shouted in alarm and rushed over. Wang Jinghan acted quickly, catching He Mei from Zhang Qiu's arms and pressing her thumb on the pressure point between her nose. "How is she?" Zhang Zhi Hua also dragged himself over from the sofa. 0

"Auntie's fine; she just got overly frightened. It's my fault," Wang Jinghan continued pressing on the pressure point as He Mei slowly opened her eyes. The first thing He Mei did upon sitting up was check Zhang Qiu's wound. Zhang Qiu hurriedly reassured her, "Mom, don't worry. I'm fine; otherwise the doctor wouldn't have let me come back." 0

He Mei didn't believe Zhang Qiu's words and looked toward Wang Jinghan for confirmation. Zhang Qiu quickly gave Wang Jinghan a meaningful glance, and she confidently assured, "Zhang Qiu isn't lying to you; the doctor said it's nothing serious. Just take care to rest and avoid strenuous activities." 0

Hearing this from Wang Jinghan eased He Mei's worries a bit, but she still complained, "Even if it's nothing serious, I'm still worried; it's a knife wound! You child... what a calamity." 0

"Foolish child, why are you hurting yourself? Sit down, stop standing," He Mei said, feeling heartbroken as she helped Zhang Qiu sit on the sofa, her gaze lingering on his wound. 0

"Are you satisfied now? I can't stand people like you, despicable!" Wang Jinghan exclaimed, her emotions running high as harsh words slipped from her lips. 0

Auntie looked at the injured Zhang Qiu, knowing she was in the wrong, but she mumbled without saying much. 0

Zhang Zhi Hua observed for a while before saying, "Good boy, you didn't bring shame to our Zhang Family." 0

Zhang Qiu raised his head and stared at Auntie sitting across from him. "I will find a way to rescue Jiang Xue. You see, our home is quite chaotic, and it's getting late. You all should go home now, alright?" 0

Upon hearing that she should leave, Auntie couldn't easily agree and hurriedly said, "It's not urgent to leave; we still need to discuss this matter." 0

"Isn't it enough already?" Zhang Qiu glared at Auntie, feeling a dull pain radiating from his abdomen. Although his recovery was faster than normal, he had only just been injured. 0

"Of course it's not enough. Jiang Xue is your girlfriend; she ended up in prison because of you. Don't you have any reaction?" Auntie said, tilting her head back as if her nose was about to touch the ceiling. 0

"What do you mean?" Zhang Qiu suddenly realized that Auntie's visit today was probably not just about Jiang Xue. 0

Auntie slowly said, "Jiang Xue's life has been ruined by you; in my opinion, you should marry her." 0

"Don't worry about that, Auntie. I know Jiang Xue is my girlfriend, so I will definitely marry her; it's just that I'm not old enough yet." 0

"That's not a problem. If you're not old enough, you can get the marriage certificate later. Just give me the bride price." 0

"Hahahahaha!" Zhang Qiu burst into laughter. 0

"What are you laughing at?" Auntie's wary gaze scrutinized Zhang Qiu. 0

Zhang Qiu looked mockingly at Auntie, who had revealed her true colors, and said with a smile, "I laughed because I finally figured out what you were thinking. After all this time, I really thought you had a change of heart and started caring about Jiang Xue. Who would have thought that while Jiang Xue is still in prison, you would come running to sell her!" 0

Auntie curled her lip and her expression darkened. "Don't say such harsh things. What do you mean by selling? Isn't it customary to give a bride price when marrying someone?" 0

"Giving a bride price is correct, but it should go to Jiang Xue's mother. How could it go to you?" He Mei pointed out Auntie's mistake, familiar with these customs. 0

Auntie scoffed disdainfully, "Give it to her mother? If her mother cared for her, she wouldn't be living in my house." 0

"Give it!" Zhang Zhi Hua, who had been silent until now, waved his hand decisively, his single word carrying more weight than a thousand arguments. 0

Zhang Qiu looked at Zhang Zhi Hua, He Mei looked at Zhang Zhi Hua, Wang Jinghan also turned to Zhang Zhi Hua, and even Second Uncle in the corner was seriously watching him, his eyes revealing a hint of envy. 0

Auntie stared blankly; this was too sudden. She hadn't expected things to go so smoothly. She thought it would take some effort, yet Zhang Zhi Hua agreed so readily. Auntie beamed with joy and began counting on her fingers, loudly calculating: "The bride price in the village is sixty thousand; in the city, buying a house and a car is eighty thousand. Since your family doesn't have a house..." 0

"One hundred thousand." Before Auntie could finish her rambling, Zhang Zhi Hua interrupted with another shout. Adding one more word than last time made it even more imposing. Second Uncle, who was huddled in the corner, trembled at the sound. 0

"Alright then, one hundred thousand it is." Auntie stood up excitedly, her body shaking rhythmically with her laughter. Even though the money hadn't reached her hands yet, she was already planning how to spend it in her mind. First, she'd buy a branded electric vehicle for her son who was just starting middle school; then she'd get herself that down jacket she had been eyeing for a long time. Summer was approaching anyway, so she could toss aside the summer clothes bought from the street and head to the big mall in the county town to buy some nice pieces... 0
