Chapter 137: Unraveling the Heart's Knot 0

"You," Ma Zhen said, looking at him with a mix of disappointment and frustration. "I've told you many times to take your work seriously, but you never listen. Look where that got you." 0

The officer looked at Ma Zhen as if she were a savior. "Captain Ma, what should we do now?" 0

"What else can we do? Let's get down to business," Ma Zhen replied, handing a document to the officer. 0

... 0

Zhang Qiu stepped out of the police station building and saw two patrol cars driving away. Looking back at the building, he noticed only two people remained inside. It seemed they really had gone out on patrol, which made Zhang Qiu feel a bit better. 0

Standing at the entrance of the police station, Zhang Qiu hesitated. He had brought a video with him and intended to show it to He Jun first before making a decision. If it was beneficial to Jiang Xue, he would hand it over; if it was not only useless but potentially harmful to her, he would destroy it—there was no way it could leak out. Zhang Qiu knew his uncle's handling of the situation regarding Jiang Xue was beyond reproach, yet he still felt uneasy. Thinking of Jiang Xue, he ultimately overcame his inner turmoil and walked across the street after standing at the entrance for half an hour. 0

The Public Security Bureau was just across the street from the police station, but a golden railing separated the two roads, so Zhang Qiu had to cross an intersection to get there. Standing outside the main entrance of the bureau, Zhang Qiu instinctively looked up. In the center of the imposing building hung a solemn badge. On either side of the roof were large banners that read: "Maintain Stability, Combat Crime, Protect the Public, Duty-Bound." 0

Zhang Qiu suddenly remembered when he used to come here often to visit his uncle. The building was still the same; the slogans had changed numerous times, and his uncle had risen from an ordinary officer to Police Chief Wang Guodong. However, his relationship with his uncle no longer felt like it once did. With a sigh, Zhang Qiu entered through the door. The security guard recognized him and asked, "Here to see your uncle again?" 0

Zhang Qiu nodded with a smile. Old Li had been here for many years; he even gave Zhang Qiu candy when he was younger. After signing in on the register and handing over his ID to Old Li, he was allowed inside. 0

As Zhang Qiu walked through the entrance, a familiar mirror stood in the middle of the lobby reflecting people coming and going. In the lower right corner of the mirror was an inscription with a name Zhang Qiu did not recognize. He walked around the mirror and reached the staircase but suddenly stopped. Ever since his uncle became chief, he had only been to his office once, and that time his mind had been entirely on Jiang Xue. Now standing here, Zhang Qiu had no idea where his uncle's office was located. 0

Just then, as Zhang Qiu hesitated, Wang Hailong entered through the front door. Upon seeing Zhang Qiu standing at the staircase, he was first surprised but then walked over with a smile and patted Zhang Qiu on the shoulder from behind. 0

Zhang Qiu was trying hard to recall how to get there when he was startled by the pat and instinctively swung his fist around. Fortunately, Wang Hailong reacted quickly and stepped back while raising his hand to block Zhang Qiu's punch. 0

Realizing it was Wang Hailong, Zhang Qiu quickly apologized, "Sorry about that." He felt grateful towards Wang Hailong for stopping him from seeking revenge on Liu Xiaofei at the county hospital; otherwise, he might have ended up in detention himself. 0

"Here to see your uncle?" Wang Hailong asked Zhang Qiu. 0

"Yes," Zhang Qiu nodded. 0

Wang Hailong looked at Zhang Qiu and smiled, "Alright, it's all in the past. Don't hold a grudge against your uncle. He has mentioned you to me many times, apologizing for what happened. But he had no choice; being in this position means he has to act this way. You also want a fair director, and when it comes to your own situation, you can't... right?" 0

"Yeah, I understand." 0

"That's right. Let me tell you quietly, your uncle hasn't done nothing. At least he made sure your girlfriend is eating well and sleeping well in the detention center; she won't suffer. Besides, he's actively working on this matter. Your uncle has it tough, so go have a good chat with him. We're family; there's no need to be angry." 0

"Okay." Zhang Qiu smiled in agreement, and Wang Hailong's last words completely resolved the knot in Zhang Qiu's heart that had been there for days. 0

Wang Hailong noticed Zhang Qiu still hadn't moved and asked, "Hurry up and find your uncle." 0

"I forgot which office the director's is," Qiu Wan said, scratching his head awkwardly. 0

Wang Hailong laughed, "Second floor, turn left, it's the second room on the south side. The biggest one; go ahead." 0

"Thank you." Qiu Wan dashed upstairs and quickly found the room as Wang Hailong directed. Sure enough, the sign read five golden characters—Director's Office. 0

Zhang Qiu knocked on the door. "Come in!" It was his uncle's familiar voice. 0

Zhang Qiu pushed the door open and saw He Jun bent over his desk handling documents without lifting his head. Seeing his uncle work so diligently made all of Zhang Qiu's grievances disappear. 0

He Jun heard the door but didn't hear anyone speak. After finishing a sentence, he looked toward the door. Upon seeing Zhang Qiu, he quickly stopped what he was doing, personally moved a chair to place it across from his desk, and called out to Zhang Qiu, "Come over quickly." 0

"Uncle," Zhang Qiu said with a smile as he walked over. 0

Hearing Zhang Qiu call him uncle and seeing the smile on his face made He Jun feel much more at ease. Instead of sitting down, Zhang Qiu directly said to He Jun, "Uncle, I have a video here for you to watch; see if it helps with Jiang Xue." 0

He Jun looked at Zhang Qiu and replied, "Alright, bring it over." 0

Zhang Qiu pulled up the video from his phone and placed it in front of He Jun. He Jun looked at the video in surprise and asked, "You guys fought and recorded the whole thing?" 0

"It was a coincidence. I had them record it, and this is what you see." 0

He Jun continued to watch the recording, his brows furrowing deeper with each passing moment. He was secretly alarmed; are students really this crazy nowadays? A metal pipe was swung directly at someone's head, and there was someone wielding a machete. At first, they used the back of the blade, but later on, they started using the edge to slash. Even more outrageous, there were ambushers involved, and bricks and stones were flying everywhere, leaving everyone in the vicinity battered and bruised. 0

He Jun sighed, "My goodness, you students have so many tricks up your sleeves when you fight. This doesn't even look like something students would do; it's not even like a gang fight, more like a scene from an ancient battlefield in a TV drama." 0

Zhang Qiu grinned mischievously, "Isn't this happening right at the Yuan Dynasty Ancient City Ruins? It fits the theme quite well." 0

He Jun ignored Zhang Qiu and continued to focus on the video. Suddenly, Liu Xiaofei circled behind Zhang Qiu and lunged with a knife. In that critical moment, a white figure appeared on screen, holding a small fruit knife in her delicate hand, stabbing it repeatedly into Liu Xiaofei's body. Liu Xiaofei couldn't hold on any longer and collapsed into a pool of blood. 0

At that moment, Jiang Xue stood frozen in place, unsure of what to do, as blood dripped from the fruit knife in her hand. Zhang Qiu snatched the knife from Jiang Xue's grip and held her tightly in his arms. The scene descended into chaos as people scattered, and the video ended there. 0

He Jun was left speechless by the shocking footage; these were all just seventeen or eighteen-year-old kids. What could possibly drive them to such brutality? 0

Zhang Qiu was unaware of He Jun's thoughts and asked eagerly, "Uncle, can this video help Jiang Xue?" 0
