Chapter 111: Can Feelings Be Prevented?
A warm and relaxed atmosphere permeated the entire dinner. After the meal, Zhang Qiu's words left his parents in shock. Clearing his throat, Zhang Qiu said seriously, "Dad, Mom, Jiang Xue is staying at our house tonight and will leave tomorrow."
He Mei's mind buzzed, and she blurted out, "So you two..." Fortunately, He Mei quickly realized her mistake and refrained from asking if they were going to sleep together.
Zhang Zhi Hua reacted quickly and said directly, "Mei, why don't you tidy up the other room on the second floor and change the bedding? Let Jiang Xue sleep in that room."
"Okay, okay." He Mei agreed with a smile, silently praising her husband's cleverness.
That night, as Zhang Zhi Hua and He Mei lay in bed, He Mei said, "Thank goodness for your idea; otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do. With our son having Jiang Xue stay over, I instinctively thought they would sleep together."
Zhang Zhi Hua smiled slightly and replied, "I'm just giving them a choice. If the kids want to sleep together, that's their business. The room on the second floor is all theirs; how they want to sleep is up to them."
He Mei playfully punched Zhang Zhi Hua and scolded him, "Why are you so bad? The kids are still young! Besides, other parents are strictly preventing their children from dating, and here you are letting them sleep together."
"What’s wrong with that? These kids are not like we were back in the day; they know much more. Besides, can feelings really be prevented?" Zhang Zhi Hua said as he grasped He Mei's hand that was resting on his chest while his other hand mischievously moved toward her waist.
He Mei pushed Zhang Zhi Hua's hand away and said seriously, "Stop it. I want to ask you something. What do you think about the two kids?"
"I think it's pretty good," Zhang Zhi Hua replied with a smile.
He Mei tilted her head in thought. "Jiang Xue is a nice girl; she's well-behaved and is in the same class as Zhang Qiu. After the college entrance exams in June, they'll go to university together." After a pause, He Mei added, "Actually, Wang Jinghan is also a good girl; she knows how to take care of people. I initially thought our son was dating her."
Zhang Zhi Hua gently tapped He Mei on the forehead and said, "You see a girl and immediately want her to be your son's girlfriend. Let young people handle their own matters. We should worry less about it."
He Mei pouted. "These things should be considered in advance. Have you seen Aunt Three's child? He's already twenty-seven and still single."
"That's different; Aunt Three's child doesn't do anything but stay at home playing video games. Who would be foolish enough to marry someone like that?"
"That needs to be considered in advance."
"Alright, alright, I'll consider it, I'll listen to you."
...
On the second floor of Zhang Qiu's house, He Mei had already tidied up a room. There wasn't much to clean; usually, it just required some sweeping and changing to a new set of bedding. Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue sat on the bed, with Jiang Xue nestled in Zhang Qiu's arms. After a while, Jiang Xue asked Zhang Qiu, "I'm definitely going to prison. What will you do?"
"Me?" Zhang Qiu bit his lip; he had thought about this question long ago. "I will definitely have to go in too, but I believe it won't be for too long."
Jiang Xue asked again, "What about Zeng Fan and the others?"
"They all have to go in. I know Zeng Fan can't escape punishment; after all, this was caused by the two of us."
"What about the person I injured?"
"I'm not sure. They might need to recover first. His brother might also get caught. That person’s brother is the former Police Chief Wang Guodong."
Jiang Xue gently lifted her arm, her fingertips gliding across Zhang Qiu's face as she looked at him with tearful eyes. "I really don't want you to go in too."
Zhang Qiu held Jiang Xue tightly. "Everything will be alright."
Will everything really be alright?
As night fell, darkness engulfed everything. Every household turned on their lights, using limited brightness to reclaim dominance over the darkness. Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue remained nestled together. Seeing that it was getting late, Zhang Qiu whispered in Jiang Xue's ear, "Xue'er, it's getting late; you should sleep."
Just as Zhang Qiu was about to get up, he was pulled back by Jiang Xue, who looked at him with a wronged expression and softly said, "Stay with me while I sleep; I'm scared."
"Alright." Zhang Qiu nodded, "Let's go to my room."
Jiang Xue stood up and followed Zhang Qiu back to the room. Previously, they hadn't paid much attention, but now that they entered, they noticed the glaring red stain on the bedsheet. How could this happen? Wasn't the first time in the bathroom? As Zhang Qiu pondered this question, he suddenly noticed that Jiang Xue's face had turned as red as her neck, resembling a freshly steamed sweet potato, almost steaming.
Zhang Qiu awkwardly smiled, folded the bedsheet and placed it on a chair, then took Jiang Xue's hand and sat down on the bed, asking, "How about we watch a movie?"
"Um, okay." Jiang Xue just wanted to find something to ease the extremely awkward atmosphere. Although she willingly entrusted herself to Zhang Qiu, she was still a pure girl and felt incredibly shy. Zhang Qiu's clumsy actions clearly indicated that he was just as inexperienced as she was.
Zhang Qiu opened his computer and, after consulting Jiang Xue, chose "Titanic." Jack and Rose faced a life-and-death separation; how were Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue any different? A bright light awaited them that would turn into a nightmare; Zhang Qiu hoped that tomorrow would never come.
While Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue cuddled up watching the movie, in the Intensive Care Unit of Beilan County Hospital, Liu Xiaolong lay wide-eyed on the hospital bed, his body filled with various medical devices. Liu Xiaofei felt a piercing pain; beyond the physical pain, there was an even greater mental blow.
During Liu Xiaofei's coma, he had been dreaming. Jiang Xue kept stabbing him, one knife after another, showing no signs of stopping. It was simply terrifying! After experiencing this event, Liu Xiaofei seemed like a changed person; he transformed from a troubled youth into a well-behaved boy. The once arrogant Liu Xiaofei had completely disappeared from the world.
Since the patient had just escaped danger, family visits were currently prohibited. Relatives who rushed over upon hearing the news waited outside. Among them was Wang Guodong, the most powerful figure in their family. Wang Guodong received a call from his wife while he was leisurely sitting in his office chair eating sunflower seeds. Upon hearing that Liu Xiaofei had been admitted to the hospital, he abruptly stood up, put on his clothes, called for his driver, and headed out.
Wang Guodong realized that the opportunity for revenge he had been waiting for had finally arrived. This time, he would strike back fiercely!
