Chapter 98: Even Black Belts Fear Crowds
Blood! There was blood! This left the group of students stunned. Normally, when they fought, it only resulted in bruises and scrapes. But today, right from the start, someone got hit on the head and bled; how hard did they hit? Zeng Fan, standing next to Liu Xiaolong, felt a chill run down his spine. Thankfully, nothing happened to him just now; if that had landed on his head... Zeng Fan cursed inwardly, "Zhang Qiu is really out of line. Who starts a fight like that? No sense of decorum at all."
Although Zhang Qiu's actions intimidated the students who came with Zeng Fan, the local thugs were not afraid of Zhang Qiu's tactics. No matter how tough he was, a few years ago, a black belt from their school had challenged the senior leader of the class and ended up in the hospital after being beaten by a group. Since then, a saying circulated in their school: even black belts fear crowds.
Liu Xiaolong's crew were usually troublemakers who relied on Wang Guodong's influence; they typically bullied others without fear. But now, in front of everyone, Brother Long was actually beaten by a rookie. This was unacceptable, and a swarm of people rushed towards Zhang Qiu.
Yang Yu didn't expect that after three years, Brother Qiu would still be this fierce. Seeing Liu Xiaolong's people closing in, Yang Yu picked up a baseball bat and held it in front of Zhang Qiu, shouting, "Protect Brother Qiu!"
Yang Yu's group quickly armed themselves with bats and pipes to shield Zhang Qiu at the center. Meanwhile, Zeng Fan and the students he brought were still frozen in shock.
The two parties faced off against each other but no one made a move. On Zhang Qiu's side, his group protected him while swinging their pipes and bats wildly to keep others at bay. Liu Xiaolong's crew stood empty-handed, fearing Yang Yu and his group's weapons; they remained back with an arrogant demeanor while cursing loudly.
Liu Xiaolong touched his head and saw it covered in blood. His eyes widened with rage as he growled, "Zhang Qiu, don’t think just because your uncle is Police Chief Wang Guodong that you can act all high and mighty. I’m telling you now, only one of us will walk away from this."
Zhang Qiu felt deeply humiliated by Liu Xiaolong’s words; he had never endured such disgrace before. In his fury, he completely forgot about his brother Liu Xiaofei’s warning not to kill.
Zhang Qiu chuckled lightly; he wasn’t afraid of someone who could get hit and bleed but still pretended to be tough.
The two parties stood about a meter apart in confrontation. The onlookers who came to socialize began to murmur after hearing Liu Xiaolong’s words. They were unaware that Liu Xiaolong’s brother-in-law had been dismissed from his position. According to Liu Xiaolong’s logic, wasn’t this person Zhang Qiu the nephew of Police Chief Wang Guodong? How could they possibly fight him without getting into trouble?
Liu Xiaolong never anticipated that his careless words would create a subtle impact; some thugs privately advised their friends to go easy during the fight and absolutely not to hurt Zhang Qiu.
Zeng Fan watched as his protagonist's spotlight was stolen by someone else, and quickly stepped forward to say, "Zhang Qiu, you barely said two words before throwing a punch. You really don't understand the rules."
Zhang Qiu bit his lip and scoffed, "Who needs to understand your rules? I'm not like you. This is between me and Liu Xiaolong. He harmed my family, so I have to deal with him. And you? What do you think you are, meddling in this? You called me out for a fight, I showed up, and now you won't even fight. What are you here for, just wasting time?"
"Damn." Zeng Fan spat angrily and raised an eyebrow, cursing, "If it's a fight you want, with just this many of you, I could send all of you to the hospital. Do you believe that?"
"Who says there are only this many of us?"
Just as Zhang Qiu tightened his grip on the iron pipe, preparing to give the arrogant Zeng Fan a taste of his own medicine, he suddenly heard a voice coming from below the ancient city and turned to look.
The atmosphere remained tense as everyone's attention was drawn to Zhang Qiu and Liu Xiaolong, with no one noticing that another group had quietly arrived at the foot of the ancient city.
As soon as the words were spoken, Song Weidong appeared on the city wall. Dressed in a loose hoodie and jeans, with his hair styled neatly, he was followed by about twenty subordinates.
Zhang Qiu looked at Song Weidong; his earlier words had already proven he was an ally rather than an enemy. Yang Yu and others made way for Song Weidong. He approached Zhang Qiu and smiled, saying, "Don't worry, I'm not here to join you; I'm just here to help."
Seeing Song Weidong's sincere smile, Zhang Qiu felt confused about why he would want to help him. Previously, Song Weidong had clearly been looking for trouble with him. It didn't make sense for him to come to his aid now. Zhang Qiu asked, "Why do you want to help me?"
Song Weidong pointed at Zeng Fan and replied, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Zhang Qiu recalled how Zhao Pingchuan had mentioned more than once that Song Weidong and Zeng Fan were not on good terms during their analysis of the situation. But what about Liu Xiaolong? Zhang Qiu still couldn't understand why Song Weidong would act this way. It seemed like doing nothing and reaping the benefits would be the best choice.
Song Weidong seemed to sense Zhang Qiu's thoughts and continued, "Your conflict has escalated too much. If Zeng Fan wins, Beilan High School will completely fall under his control. I can't just stand by; I have to help you. This is also for my own benefit, so I hope you won't let me down."
Hearing Song Weidong's explanation, Zhang Qiu felt reassured. There is no such thing as help without reason in this world; if there is, it must come from parents. Zhang Qiu extended his hand and smiled, saying, "Thank you for your participation."
Song Weidong also smiled, their strong hands clasping tightly together. Nearby, Wang Zhengxiang hurriedly took out his phone to capture the moment. Years later, Zhang Qiu would look back at this old photo to reminisce about those times.
Song Weidong's sudden appearance was unexpected for everyone, but it did not change the fact that Zhang Qiu was at a disadvantage.
Zeng Fan pointed at the suddenly appearing Song Weidong and questioned, "Wei Dong, what do you mean by coming to help him?"
Song Weidong sneered and looked expressionlessly at Zeng Fan, saying, "Zeng Fan, stop pretending. Think about the disgraceful things you've done. You people with relatives in power have never looked down on us, have you?"
"Haha..." Zeng Fan laughed loudly. "That's right, we do look down on you. Your dad is just a real estate businessman; what can he do? When something goes wrong on the construction site, isn't it just like begging for favors? To us, you're just an ATM, our dog." Zeng Fan's tone suddenly turned serious as he shouted, "But even as a dog, you better behave!"
Zeng Fan's words completely severed the already strained relationship between Song Weidong and him. Zeng Fan didn't care and continued, "Don't forget, you haven't graduated yet."
A threat, a blatant threat. Zhang Qiu watched as Song Weidong's expression changed rapidly; his brows furrowed tightly, veins bulging, and even his lips trembled from the strain.
