Chapter Ninety-Seven: New Grudges and Old Hatreds 0

The wind grew stronger, branches swayed, dust flew, and yellow sand swept in from the east like soldiers attacking a city, passing through the crowd. Under the Yuan Dynasty Ancient City Ruins, Zeng Fan strode confidently at the front, followed by a large group of followers, exuding an imposing presence. As a sandstorm hit, everyone hurriedly covered their eyes and tightly closed their mouths. 0

Zhang Qiu felt a surge of anger and an inexplicable sense of unease in his heart, quickly steadying his mind. 0

Zeng Fan led the group out of the sandstorm and up to the ancient city. With Zeng Fan's large number of followers, Zhang Qiu's Hall Society was clearly at a disadvantage. Apart from the students, those with dyed hair and shaved heads were all over twenty years old, clearly outsiders brought in by Zeng Fan. 0

Zhang Qiu called Yang Yu over and asked, "Do you recognize those with dyed hair and shaved heads?" 0

Yang Yu scanned the crowd and whispered, "Brother Qiu, the guy in the plaid shirt on the left is Zhang Fan; he's from our school." 0

Zhang Qiu sneered, "It seems Zeng Fan really wants to escalate things. Having so many people isn't enough; he has to bring in others to join this commotion." 0

Zhang Fan noticed Yang Yu's gaze and was slightly surprised as he walked over. Zhang Qiu watched him leave his group and stand in front of Yang Yu, his expression devoid of anger and even somewhat friendly. Zhang Fan looked at Yang Yu with surprise and asked, "Yang Yu?" 0

Not one to strike a smiling face, Yang Yu replied with a smile, "Yeah." 0

Zhang Fan glanced at Zhang Qiu and asked Yang Yu, "Are you here to help him?" 0

"Yes, he’s my older brother." 0

Zhang Fan scrutinized Zhang Qiu with disbelief. Zhang Qiu merely smiled back at him without saying a word. 0

After Zhang Fan left, Yang Yu whispered, "Brother Qiu, we know each other well enough. If it comes to a fight later, he and his people won't really go all out." 0

Zhang Qiu paused for a moment before nodding, quietly noting down that name in his mind. 0

It's common for students to run into acquaintances during fights; usually, disputes lead them to find familiar "big brothers." The more people they find, the more likely they are to encounter someone they know. A little negotiation often resolves matters without escalating further. But this time was different; there was no possibility of reconciliation between both parties; only fate would decide who would emerge victorious between Zhang Qiu and Zeng Fan! 0

Zhang Qiu felt Jiang Xue trembling slightly beside him. He gently touched her head and looked at her with affectionate eyes, saying, "Don't be afraid; I'm here." 0

Jiang Xue nodded vigorously, her smile radiant, and her slightly pale face was filled with happiness. 0

"When the fight starts, you stay back and don't get hurt, understood?" Zhang Qiu instructed Jiang Xue. Seeing her nod, Zhang Qiu called over Wang Zhengxiang and said, "When the fight starts, you protect her well. If anything happens, I'll hold you responsible." 0

"Don't worry, boss. I'll make sure to protect Sister-in-law," Wang Zhengxiang assured, patting his chest. 0

As soon as Wang Zhengxiang finished speaking, Jiang Xue's face flushed, and she tightly grasped Zhang Qiu's shirt. Zhang Qiu didn't sense anything amiss and patted Wang Zhengxiang on the shoulder, saying, "Make sure to protect yourself too." 0

Wang Zhengxiang nodded and signaled two of his brothers to stand beside Jiang Xue. In a fight, things could escalate quickly; no one could predict it, so they had to be prepared in advance. 0

"Wow, bringing a woman to a fight?" 0

Zhang Qiu looked over to see Zeng Fan looking at him with disdain. Ignoring the comment, Zhang Qiu directly asked, "What are you talking about? Are we fighting or not?" 0

"Of course we're fighting, but we need to wait a bit longer." 0

"Wait for what?" 0

"To wait for an old friend of yours," Zeng Fan replied before bursting into laughter. 0

Seeing Zeng Fan so arrogant, Yang Yu stepped forward and pointed at him angrily, shouting, "What nonsense are you talking? You're the one here to fight; if you're not going to fight, are you even a man?" 0

Being called less than a man was something no one could tolerate. Just a second ago, Zeng Fan was laughing heartily; now his expression darkened as he snapped back, "Who do you think you are to talk?" 0

"What are you? My brother Zhang Qiu can say whatever he wants; who cares about you?" 0

Qiu Wan picked up a metal pipe and was ready to strike. Zeng Fan's group also began to stir restlessly. Just as both parties were on the verge of confrontation, several piercing cries drew everyone's attention. 0

At the foot of Yuan Dynasty Ancient City, Liu Xiaolong led a group roaring in on motorcycles from afar. Zhang Qiu watched as someone familiar sat behind Liu Xiaolong. He suddenly smiled; wasn't that Liu Xiaofei who had threatened to kill him? This must be the old friend Zeng Fan mentioned. Now that they were all gathered together, great! They could settle everything at once and be done with it. 0

Although Zhang Qiu thought this way, his worries grew heavier. Zeng Fan already had a large number of people, and with so many more joining in, winning against him would come at an extremely heavy cost. If things went wrong, he and his brothers might end up in the hospital. It wouldn’t matter if he got hurt, but dragging so many brothers into it went against his intention to protect them. Zhang Qiu sighed; there was no other way but to endure, and everything would be fine eventually. 0

Liu Xiaolong walked into the ancient city, glaring fiercely at Zhang Qiu before heading straight towards Zeng Fan. Upon seeing Liu Xiaolong approach, Zeng Fan greeted him warmly. Meanwhile, Liu Xiaofei fixed a piercing gaze on Zhang Qiu and suddenly shouted, “Zhang Qiu, weren’t you with Wang Jinghan? Who is this woman?” 0

Zhang Qiu looked at Jiang Xue, who maintained a smile while tightly holding onto him, but there was an unmistakable awkwardness in her expression. 0

After targeting Zhang Qiu, Liu Xiaofei turned his attention to Jiang Xue and mockingly asked, “Do you know he has another woman?” 0

“I’m willing; what does it have to do with you?” Jiang Xue replied proudly, putting Liu Xiaofei in his place with a single sentence, though it left Zhang Qiu feeling uneasy. 0

Liu Xiaofei was fuming with anger; he couldn’t understand what was so great about Zhang Qiu that girls were willing to surround him. Seeing his brother humiliated while chatting with Zeng Fan, Liu Xiaolong couldn’t let Zhang Qiu off the hook and pointed at him, cursing, “Still pretending? I’ll make you call me ‘dad’ later.” 0

Zhang Qiu’s eyes widened in anger as all his strength concentrated in the arm gripping the iron pipe. Liu Xiaolong’s words struck a nerve; their father had been injured by Liu Xiaolong before, yet he had escaped punishment. Now that they were facing each other again, old grudges resurfaced alongside new ones. 0

Zhang Qiu took two steps forward and swung the iron pipe down at Liu Xiaolong’s head. Before the fight started, Zhang Qiu had reminded his men not to hit vital spots, but when it came down to it, who would care about that? 0

Liu Xiaolong never expected Zhang Qiu to strike first in front of so many people. Caught off guard, he took the blow directly to the head, blood immediately streaming down. Liu Xiaolong felt a buzzing in his brain and took a moment to process what happened before wincing in pain and gasping for air. 0
