Chapter Five: The Secret of Director Zhao 0

Zhang Qiu didn't wait for the usual time and went to school early, leaving the hospital ahead of schedule. Upon returning home, he went straight to his room, picked up his phone, and dialed a familiar number. Unfortunately, no one answered, so Zhang Qiu had to hang up and head to school. Normally, he wouldn't carry his phone with him because the school had a strict no-phone policy. But today, he decided to break that rule just this once. 0

Throughout the entire class, Zhang Qiu was distracted. His deskmate, Wang Zhengxiang, noticed something was off and asked him, "What's wrong? You look like you're not all here." 0

"Really? Maybe I just didn't rest well during lunch," Zhang Qiu replied vaguely, not wanting to share his concerns. Seeing that Zhang Qiu didn't want to talk, Wang Zhengxiang dropped the subject and continued to pay attention in class. However, Zhang Qiu still couldn't focus on the blackboard. 0

As soon as class ended, Zhang Qiu headed straight for the playground. Beiluan No. 1 High School's playground was surrounded by ancient city ruins, with lush trees and dense grass growing over the site. In the gap between the gymnasium and the ancient city walls, it was possible to avoid the numerous cameras. It was also very quiet here, free from interruptions—an ideal spot for couples to meet or for making secret phone calls. 0

Yang Yu was a classmate of Zhang Qiu's from middle school. Back then, a few of them were caught up in gang activities and impulsively formed a group together; however, it wasn't as violent as it sounded—they mostly just played around. Eventually, they drifted apart, but the bond between the two brothers remained strong. After graduating from middle school, Yang Yu went to a vocational school where fights were common, and gradually he gathered a group of people around him. Zhang Qiu called him hoping he could find out who had injured his father. Being in that circle, Yang Yu should have some insight. 0

The call connected, and a familiar voice came through: "Brother Qiu, what's up? Shouldn't you be at school right now?" 0

"Yeah, I'm at school," Zhang Qiu replied. "I need your help with something." 0

"Sure thing," Yang Yu responded readily. 0

"My dad got beaten up; can you find out who did it?" Zhang Qiu added at the end, "It was someone from the Relocation Office—his brother-in-law is our county's Police Chief Wang Guodong." 0

"Your uncle got beaten up? That's not good; once we find out who did it, we'll deal with them," Yang Yu's tone turned serious. "Since he's Police Chief Wang Guodong's nephew, I can probably guess who it is." 0

"Who is it?" 0

"Liu Xiaolong, it might be him. Brother Qiu, don't worry, this is easy to check. I have a brother whose dad is in charge of the relocation work. I'll have him go home tonight to find out and let you know." 0

"Alright, thanks, brother," Zhang Qiu replied. 0

"Don't mention it. You helped me out on the third day of the new year. I call you big brother, and you'll always be my big brother. Now it's my turn to help you," Yang Yu said with a smile. 0

Zhang Qiu felt warmth in his heart; such touching words could only come from brothers. 0

After hanging up the phone, Zhang Qiu returned to the classroom. As he passed by the gymnasium, he suddenly heard some sounds. He stopped to listen carefully; it sounded like a woman's voice. Zhang Qiu glanced back and felt goosebumps rise on his skin. The Yuan Dynasty Ancient City was lush with trees, and the five-meter-high gymnasium was hidden beneath their cover. Since few people came here, it felt even more eerie. Most importantly, he remembered that during the Enge period, a principal had hanged himself from a certain tree. 0

No way, am I going to encounter a ghost? Zhang Qiu felt fear creeping in but was also very curious. After some internal debate, curiosity won over fear, and he stealthily approached the source of the sound. When he reached the entrance of the gymnasium, he found the door ajar and quietly slipped inside. In the left-side duty room, Zhang Qiu saw a woman with her clothes lifted riding on top of a man, writhing around while the man comfortably leaned against a chair. The woman's smooth back faced Zhang Qiu, making it hard to identify her. But that man—Zhang Qiu recognized him; wasn't that Director Zhao from Senior Year? 0

Zhang Qiu was startled and wanted to leave. Suddenly, he hesitated and pulled back his footstep, taking out his phone to activate the camera function. About a minute later, Zhang Qiu quietly left the gymnasium and ran away as if flying. 0

Back in the classroom, Zhang Qiu's heart was still racing. He had inadvertently discovered Director Zhao's secret and recorded it. Zhang Qiu understood that this video could be quite valuable. 0

He turned off his phone and paused at the door for a moment before calling out "Report." This class happened to be Zhao Guohong's lesson, and he heard Zhao Guohong say, "Come in!" 0

Zhang Qiu pushed the door open. Zhao Guohong looked at him and asked, "How's it going?" 0

"Not bad, thank you for your concern, teacher," Zhang Qiu nodded and returned to his seat. Before entering, he had been thinking about what excuse to make for being late. However, Zhao Guohong didn't realize that Zhang Qiu had been here since the first class; he thought Zhang Qiu had just arrived. 0

As soon as Zhang Qiu sat back down at his desk, his deskmate Wang Zhengxiang asked, "What does our homeroom teacher mean?" 0

Zhang Qiu smiled slyly and said, "It's a secret." 0

"Everyone be quiet, class is starting!" Zhao Guohong glared at Zhang Qiu, who quickly lowered his head and focused on the textbook. 0

Although Zhang Qiu was thinking about history, the lesson was incredibly dull. The teacher was reading from the textbook, making everyone feel drowsy. Unable to resist, Zhang Qiu stealthily pulled out a copy of "The Case of the Missing Corpse" from his desk and laid it flat on the table. The thick stack of textbooks in front of him served as a perfect cover. As he opened it, Zhang Qiu's interest was quickly piqued, and the previous drowsiness vanished. 0
