Liu Qingyan's small body suddenly lunged forward, hugging Wang's leg tightly and crying out, "Aunt, please don't hit my sister anymore. I'm sorry, I'll work hard and won't take advantage of you. Boohoo~~~" 0

In his heart, his sister was the only one who cared for him selflessly, always saving the good food for him. Aunt was the worst in the family, and with his tiny frame, he shielded Liu Qingxi. 0

The desperate cries made Liu Qingxi's tears flow uncontrollably. She lamented her unfortunate fate and was touched by Liu Qingyan's pure feelings, but she would not back down. 0

Having lost both parents at a young age and living with her grandmother, she often faced ridicule from classmates. At such a young age, she had seen the harsh realities of life, which shaped her stubborn and unyielding character. Her proud heart would not allow her to bow down to the woman before her. 0

Wang was infuriated by the sight of the siblings, especially Liu Qingxi lying weakly on the ground yet still refusing to beg for mercy. This deeply provoked her. 0

"Get away from me, you two little bastards! You eat my food and drink my water, yet you dare to defy me and steal? Just wait until I beat you to death today!" 0

With that, Wang kicked Liu Qingyan away from her leg and took turns kicking both siblings as if she wanted to vent all her anger on them. 0

Having encountered the weak Qin Family as her mother-in-law, Wang gradually developed a domineering and cruel personality that abused the other children in the household. 0

She was already someone who loved to nitpick, and now that Liu Qingxi was injured and lying in bed barely alive, not working for several days while still needing to be fed, her heart bled. Why should she feed these ungrateful little wolves? 0

Wang herself was malnourished, and after repeatedly kicking and hitting, she soon became breathless. 0

With each kick, Liu Qingxi grew increasingly desperate but still refused to plead for mercy. Slowly, her consciousness began to fade. 0

Before she passed out, she saw a tall figure approaching quickly. "Eldest Uncle's Wife, what are you doing? Why are you hitting the children?" It was her grandmother's voice from the Qin Family. 0

"Why did I hit them? I'm just trying to reason with them. Look, not only do they refuse to work, but they also steal food at home. We work ourselves to the bone just to support these two good-for-nothings!" Although Wang's tone had softened considerably, it was still very aggressive. 0

It was clear that Wang was not afraid of the old woman; after all, she had done her share of work and felt justified in her actions. 0

"You! This is for Girl. After lying down for so many days, she finally woke up, and I just wanted to give her something to eat, which is why I made this bowl of porridge. She didn't steal it." 0

Little did Qin Family know that their words would only provoke Wang further: "Oh, this is outrageous! Mother, you’re still protecting this Dead Girl. While we’re out there working ourselves to death, you’re at home giving them special treatment. How can we live like this? How can you be so biased?" 0

Wang looked as if she were about to collapse from despair, and now she had turned her anger toward Qin Family! 0

"Mother, I've never seen such favoritism! We haven't even eaten yet, and you're making such thick porridge for this worthless child. This is a whole day's worth of rations!" 0

Wang cried out in desperation. After exerting herself while hitting Liu Qingxi and Liu Qingyan, she was genuinely exhausted and finally stopped. 0

At that moment, the expressions of those present were quite dramatic, as if they feared the fire wouldn't burn bright enough. A short woman stepped forward and said softly, "Sister-in-law, don’t dwell on this too much. We should understand that Mother is being lenient with those two poor orphans." 0

Her words were meant to persuade Wang, but they only fueled Wang's anger further. Why should her children suffer just because these two had no parents? 0

Why should it be like this? They were merely burdens left behind by two short-lived souls. If she were kind-hearted, she might spare them a meal; otherwise, well, let them starve! 0

At that moment, Wang didn't even consider that Liu Laosan and Yun Clan had left so early precisely because of the mistreatment they endured from her as their sister-in-law during their escape from famine. Every time they ate, it was only the scraps left behind. 0

And both Liu Laosan and Yun Clan, who were naturally honest individuals, were not the type to steal food. Over time, their health deteriorated until both ultimately passed away. 0

"Th-this..." The Qin Family was at a loss for words after being scolded by Wang. 0

She had a gentle personality, and in front of the fierce Wang, she felt completely powerless. She desperately wanted to help her two poor grandchildren, but she couldn't outtalk Wang. 0

One person from the Qin Family stood aside, wiping away tears while thinking about the pitiful Third Son. She regretted it! 0

However, having been accustomed to being controlled by Wang, even though she had thoughts in her heart, she didn't dare to express them. 0

"Mother, just leave it be. I'm only teaching these two juniors a lesson," Wang's words carried an implicit threat, and then she whispered, "Hmph, an old woman still expects me to support her; what right does she have to speak?" 0

But everyone heard her words. The faces of the Qin Family turned red and pale, their expressions filled with embarrassment as they fidgeted awkwardly. 0

At this moment, Liu Qingxi felt somewhat desperate and couldn't help but resent the heavens. Why did she have to come to such a backward era and encounter such terrible family members? 0

Slowly closing her eyes, the usually stubborn Liu Qingxi suddenly felt like giving up! 0

As she fainted, she vaguely heard Wang's voice: "Since you two have eaten so much today, you won't eat at noon or in the evening!" 0

Then Liu Qingxi lost all consciousness! 0

She thought she had died again, but then she woke up once more. A small figure curled up beside her; she knew it was Liu Qingyan. 0

Suddenly, an indescribable pang of sorrow spread through her. The little boy in front of her, already weak, might not be able to hold on much longer because she hadn't eaten. 0

Opening her eyes, she realized it was already dark outside, and she could hear soft snoring nearby. 0

She attempted to turn over: "Hiss~~~" Pain shot through her body. 0

Her slight sound startled the little one beside her: "Sister, you’re awake?" the child asked softly. 0

"How long have I been asleep?" Liu Qingxi inquired. 0

"Sister, you’ve been asleep for half a day. Are you feeling better?" Liu Qingyan looked at Liu Qingxi with anticipation. 0

"Much better, I’m fine!" Liu Qingxi forced herself to suppress the pain throughout her body as she spoke to the little boy. 0

Waking up again, her thoughts were different from before her unconsciousness. No matter what, there was still a blood-related family member in this world who truly cared for her. Therefore, she could not give up; that was not her character. 0

"Help me sit up!" Liu Qingxi strained her body. After being beaten badly and not having eaten, she had no strength left. 0

However, she overestimated Liu Qingyan. A seven-year-old who hadn’t eaten all day would find it difficult to lift his thirteen-year-old sister. 0

"Ah!" Liu Qingxi exclaimed as she suddenly fell back onto the bed! 0

Here’s a small chapter for today. You can relax during your lunch break! 0
