Life is full of variety, with everyone harboring their own hidden motives. If one does not act for oneself, heaven will punish them. Some people knowingly go against the will of heaven, yet still act ruthlessly for their own selfish interests. While there are many good people in the world, human hearts are unpredictable and differ from one another.
Due to a fire at the Zoroastrian Temple, the nearby Kuzha Temple was also affected. At that time, the crowd was overwhelming, but fortunately, they were evacuated in time. Few were consumed by the flames, yet a stampede occurred during the commotion, resulting in a total of sixty-eight casualties, many of whom were elderly, weak, women, and children. This truly evokes deep sorrow and anger.
The Xu Zhen and Li Mingda disguised themselves as Tuguhun natives and walked through the streets. Although Kuzha Temple could not compare to Dazhao Temple or Xiao Zhao Temple, it was still fervently worshipped by its devotees. The precious items within were severely damaged in the fire, leading to significant losses. However, the monks did not leave the ruins of the Treasure Hall; instead, they sat around the still-smoking remains, softly chanting scriptures to guide the deceased to their next life.
People spontaneously joined in the chanting. The low and harmonious recitation sounded like weeping and lamentation, weighing heavily on one's heart. Everyone knew this was not a natural disaster but rather an act of arson; as long as the arsonist remained unpunished, the cycle of cause and effect could not be resolved. How could the souls find peace?
The Xu Zhen felt a tightness in her chest; this gloom transformed into anger. She signaled to Zuo An and Gem, who immediately blended into the crowd to gather information.
Both of them were quick-witted and had strong learning abilities; their linguistic talents were exceptional. They had become quite similar to the locals during their year and more with Tuguhun. Even if they stood up and claimed to be authentic Tang People, few would believe them.
Li Mingda was inherently kind-hearted and was affected by the atmosphere at the scene; he felt sorrowful as well. He sat down on the ground; although he did not understand the chanting, he silently mourned for the victims. The Xu Zhen sighed lightly and slowly sat down beside him.
As Sanskrit chanting filled the air, people's hearts settled. The Xu Zhen gradually found herself immersed in this environment; although she could not comprehend these scriptures, their rhythm and unique tones seemed to cleanse her soul.
Among the Red and Yellow Robed Monks were many lay devotees dressed in various attires, resembling a heavy tapestry embroidered with flowers and leaves in shades of red, green, blue, and black.
Qinsuo Luo soon arrived here but glanced around only to see heads everywhere—an overwhelming sea of faces. The sound of chanting did not soothe his restless heart filled with anger like thunderclouds; his resentment towards the Xu Zhen grew deeper.
He had brought five or six attendants with him. Not seeing any sign of the Xu Zhen, he waved his hand, prompting his attendants to disperse and begin searching for her whereabouts.
Qinsuo Luo did not expect that the Xu Zhen would disguise herself because she was a dignified envoy from Tang. Even if she acted discreetly, she could never be mistaken for a member of the Tubo People. He had not anticipated that she would have someone like Zhang Suling assisting her with her disguise.
While Qinsuo Luo was still searching for her whereabouts, his friend Anqiao had just gotten out of bed. His lean body was covered in red scratches and drenched in sweat as if he had just been pulled from water. On a sticky low couch lay a woman who was still panting contentedly.
She was Li Wushuang's maidservant; although she was slightly older, she had always taken care of Li Wushuang's daily needs and could be considered one of Li Wushuang's closest companions.
She was appointed by Qizong Nongsan and held Li Wushuang's trust deeply; she took care of Li Wushuang meticulously. Because of this trust, she caught Anqiao's attention. Unable to gain Li Wushuang's focus, Anqiao repeatedly treated this maidservant as if she were Li Wushuang herself, using extremely rough methods to vent his obsession with Li Wushuang on her in bed.
The maid was in the prime of her youth, yearning for the lean yet vigorous Anqiao. She always returned satisfied, and as a price, she leaked every move of Li Wushuang to Anqiao.
She was well aware of Anqiao's obsession with Li Wushuang, but it did not make her jealous. She understood her own position; the gap between her and Anqiao was too vast, and the difference between her and Li Wushuang was even greater. As a middle-aged woman trapped in the depths of the palace, being able to exchange some information for a night with such a man was enough to satisfy her.
Anqiao slowly opened his eyes, the illusion of Li Wushuang in his mind gradually replaced by the voluptuous maid, and his once fiery heart instantly turned cold.
"Are you saying that her Tang Dynasty maid secretly visited Ludongzan's residence?" Anqiao confirmed again.
The maid lazily turned over and shamelessly approached Anqiao, her jade arm wrapping around his waist, her lower body pressing against him. Then she whispered in his ear, "Absolutely true. Although she wears a veil every time, she can't escape my watchful eyes!"
Anqiao's eyes lit up as if he had caught valuable information, a sinister smile appearing on his lips as he continued to ask, "How often does she go? Do you know when the next time is?"
The maid seductively nibbled on Anqiao's ear and murmured, "In your heart, do you think I'm not even as good as one of her maids? We're both maids; why don't you show me that much concern?"
Anqiao sneered inwardly but held back his disdain. He gently parted his crimson lips and kissed the maid's neck. The lingering sensations made her body extremely sensitive, awakening her desire until Anqiao's mouth moved between her legs. Only then did she gaze at him with dazed eyes filled with longing and whisper, "She... she... will go tonight..."
Li Wushuang did not expect that her most trusted maid would betray her whereabouts. She continued with her original plan, having Zhang Suling disguise herself as her while she donned Zhang Suling's maid outfit and stealthily left the palace to head to Ludongzan's residence.
The defenses of Tubo Palace were not as strict as those of Chang'an Imperial City. Zhang Suling and Caesar were sent by the Tang Dynasty to serve Princess Wencheng, thus possessing special passes that allowed them free entry into the palace unless there was an emergency. Of course, men like Zuo An could not freely enter the Inner Palace; this was also true for Tuguhun.
Anqiao was one of the incarnations of Qizong Nongsan and had participated in several major battles. To uphold the reputation of Qizong Nongsan, he had personally fought on the battlefield. Although his combat skills were not particularly remarkable, he had developed good agility for survival. At this moment, following behind Li Wushuang, he surprisingly went unnoticed!
Li Wushuang was also skilled in martial arts; under normal circumstances, how could she fail to notice being followed by Anqiao? However, today was her third visit in a month, and with her heart longing for that little darling, she naturally let down her guard.
Qiang Bang Se and Ludongzan were from opposing factions and had always been at odds. Yet Anqiao relied on his identity as an incarnation to deliver several edicts from Zanpu at Ludongzan's residence; thus he was familiar with the internal routes of the estate. He climbed over a large tree outside the residence to enter the courtyard but lost sight of Li Wushuang.
Ludongzan was a civil official who enjoyed great popularity among the people; therefore, security within his residence was quite lax. Only three or four guards stood at the main entrance symbolically, while there were no patrolling bodyguards inside. The level of defense could hardly be described as tight outside but loose inside.
Under the cover of twilight, Anqiao searched several courtyards but found no trace of Li Wushuang. Just as he was feeling anxious, he heard the sound of a baby crying. He turned his gaze and followed the sound.
In a secluded room in the backyard, low voices mingled with the baby's cries. He heightened his alertness, hiding behind a pillar and peeking out to observe.
The door was half-open, and an old nurse was holding a wailing baby. Meanwhile, Li Wushuang was speaking to Ludongzan. Hearing the baby cry intensely, Li Wushuang took the child from the nurse's arms, and surprisingly, the little one quieted down!
"I heard that Ger Qinlin had a pair of twins; could this be one of them? But why is there only one? Why would Wencheng Princess's maid from the Tang Dynasty secretly come to visit Ludongzan's grandson? Could it be that she has an affair with Ger Qinlin?" Anqiao wasn't foolish; from Li Wushuang's way of cradling the baby and Ludongzan's attitude towards her, he easily deduced her relationship with the child.
He had always thought that the woman holding the baby was Zhang Suling, a maid beside Wencheng Princess, but he never expected it to be Li Wushuang herself.
As Li Wushuang's veil brushed against the baby's cheek, fearing it might cause discomfort, she removed it. Although she had an agreement with Ludongzan and was familiar with the nurse, she still needed to maintain an air of mystery and not reveal her identity to avoid bringing disaster upon herself and Ludongzan.
However, tonight she inadvertently revealed her true self by taking off her veil, which allowed Anqiao, who had been following her, to see through her disguise!
"How could it be her! What... what is going on! Isn't she in the palace? Could this... be her and Qinlin's child? No! That can't be! She wouldn't fall for someone like Qinlin!"
Anqiao's eyes were fixed on Li Wushuang holding the baby in the candlelight; at that moment, his vision turned blood-red. His nails dug into his palms, drawing blood without him realizing it, and his body trembled uncontrollably!
"Damn Ludongzan! It's one thing for him to compete for my father's power; now he even wants to compete for his son! Why does the Bodhisattva favor those from the Ger family so much!"
Anqiao looked at the woman he had been infatuated with for three or four years, thinking about how she was involved with Qinlin and even had an illegitimate child living in Ludongzan's home. His reason was completely consumed by rage; he couldn't fathom that this baby's biological father was Xu Zhen!
Anqiao was Zanpu's substitute. Long ago during the Tuguhun when he assisted Murong Hanzhu and Princess Guanghua, he had seen Xu Zhen, who was then with Li Wushuang!
What began as a chance encounter seemed preordained. When Tang Dynasty's Wencheng Princess arrived at Tuguhun as an embodiment for a wedding procession alongside Anqiao, he immediately recognized Li Wushuang!
This was indeed the Tang woman who had appeared together with Xu Zhen!
Because of this, when all the substitutes felt there was no chance to gain the favor of Li Wushuang and began to give up and turn their attention to Princess Chizun, only he, Anqiao, still persisted!
He collected his thoughts and hid in the shadows. After Li Wushuang left the Great Discussion House, he quietly followed her.
If it weren't for her eagerness to see her child, Li Wushuang wouldn't have sneaked out under the cover of night. However, she had to return early to avoid raising suspicion. She kissed the little one's cheek and reluctantly left the Great Discussion House of Lu Dongzan.
She walked cautiously, taking a different route back than the one she came. Lhasa City was vastly different from Chang'an City; the palaces here were built against the mountains, with many secluded and uninhabited areas. Li Wushuang tried to choose paths with fewer people. With her martial skills, she wasn't worried about walking alone at night.
However, Anqiao was unaware of her martial prowess. After secretly following her for a while, he saw her arrive at a deserted spot and suddenly quickened his pace, intending to ambush Li Wushuang from behind.
Now that he had grasped Li Wushuang's secret, what was stopping him from doing as he pleased?
Thinking of that infant and his infatuation with Li Wushuang ignited a raging fire within him. He wanted to brutally violate this seemingly dignified woman who was actually depraved at heart, to relieve his pent-up hatred!
Not only that, but knowing this secret was like holding a key—a key that could unlock Li Wushuang's body at any time!
With this thought in mind, his eyes gleamed with wickedness as he rushed toward Li Wushuang's back like the wind, intending to cover her mouth from behind and subdue her, threatening her with words. In this deserted place, it was perfect for humiliating this woman for an entire night!
