Xu Zhen was calculating how to extract some information from He Gan Chengji when she was unexpectedly interrupted by Li Wushuang. With no other choice, she accompanied her to Light Residence Academy to select performances for the New Year and the New Year Banquet.
Upon arrival, about twenty Dancers came forward, showcasing vigorous and bold dances. However, Xu Zhen could tell from their postures that these individuals possessed martial skills.
Typically, Dancer performers from Brothels came from humble backgrounds; although their identities were not entirely pure, they were often fallen noblewomen who had become slaves. They had clear origins and connections. Yet, these twenty Dancers exhibited martial prowess, raising suspicions.
To avoid complications, Xu Zhen naturally could not include these Dancers in her selection. However, Li Wushuang, unable to discern the situation, was drawn to them. Accustomed to martial arts, she found their strong movements and athletic figures appealing, which piqued her interest.
Xu Zhen could not elaborate on the oddities of the situation. After a brief argument, a nearby attendant spoke up to mediate, explaining that these individuals had come to the capital with King Li Yuanchang and were temporarily settled in the Brothel. They trained daily to perform at the New Year Banquet as a tribute to the Current Sovereign.
Li Wushuang frequently visited the palace and had been close to the royal family since childhood. She shared a sisterly bond with Li Mingda but held deep admiration for her older brother Tubo. King Han Li Yuanchang was of similar age to the Crown Prince and spent his days in playful company without any familial constraints.
Among the many princes, King Wu Li Ke and King Wei Li Tai were the most capable, each excelling in their respective fields of literature and martial arts. Among the older feudal lords, King Han Li Yuanchang was known for his exceptional bravery and skill in various forms of combat.
After seeing him several times, Li Wushuang developed an extreme admiration for King Han. Having been close during her childhood, she had only seen him sporadically over nearly ten years. Hearing from the attendant that this was King Han's troupe made her happy, prompting her to request more performances.
Unable to argue further and feeling frustrated, Xu Zhen decided not to engage with this oblivious girl any longer. She wandered around the Brothel casually to stretch her limbs and ease her body.
In a place predominantly filled with women, there weren't many areas to roam freely. Xu Zhen didn't want to exert her influence too much; she merely stepped into the garden in the back courtyard for some fresh air. It was wintertime, and with flowers and plants wilted, there wasn't much beauty to behold. Just as she felt bored, a young boy rushed over as if he had seen a savior upon spotting Xu Zhen. He grabbed her sleeve and shouted.
"Thank heavens! I've finally found a kind person! My lady is in distress—she's foaming at the mouth and her eyes are rolling back! I don't know what to do! Please come quickly; if we delay even a moment longer, my lady may not survive!"
Hearing this, Xu Zhen felt anxious. Having learned scriptures from Moya and befriended Liu Shenwei, she understood some basic medical knowledge and realized that this girl must be having a seizure. She quickly followed the boy into the inner courtyard.
The boy appeared earnest; his delicate features gave him an ambiguous charm that made him endearing. If he grew up, he might possess the grace of Pan An or Song Yu. The only flaw was a small red birthmark on his hand. In his haste, he pulled Xu Zhen along without allowing her to refuse.
Upon entering the inner courtyard, the scenery changed dramatically; it was filled with feminine allure and fragrant aromas that stirred one's heart. Xu Zhen stopped abruptly; being a person of some renown himself, he knew many eyes were on him in court, all waiting for him to make a misstep.
The boy suddenly let go of her hand and exclaimed angrily, "Why are you hesitating when someone's life is at stake? Are you afraid that my Brothel will tarnish your reputation? Fine then! I won't dare sully your good name; I'll find someone else for help!"
With that said, he released Xu Zhen's hand in frustration and turned to leave. Initially hesitant, Xu Zhen felt ashamed after hearing his words; she hurriedly followed him while feeling conflicted until they reached a pink boudoir.
The boy reached the door and pushed Xu Zhen forward urgently, urging her on: "I need to inform my mistress! Please hurry inside to save her; if you delay any longer, it could be too late!"
Xu Zhen was still inquiring when that little rascal hurriedly left, disappearing after a few turns. Xu Zhenxin was anxious and disregarded etiquette, forcing himself to push the door open. To his surprise, the door was securely locked. Xu Zhen gritted her teeth and kicked the door, which swung open with a loud creak. However, instead of finding a dying person, she saw a middle-aged woman changing clothes, her bloated figure quite unappealing.
“Oh no! It’s a trap!”
Xu Zhen locked eyes with the old woman, who immediately began screaming like a slaughtered pig but did not bother to cover herself. Instead, she lunged at Xu Zhen, clawing and hitting her. The old woman's sharp nails made Xu Zhen hesitate to use any martial arts; she barely managed to escape, but not before receiving several claw marks on her face, making it look as if she had just encountered a wolf—how embarrassing!
With the bloodstains on her face exposed, Xu Zhen was not afraid of losing her official dignity. After some negotiation and compensation of a considerable sum, she managed to keep the old woman quiet. However, just thinking about the old woman's figure and face made her feel nauseous.
Fortunately, she had some hemostatic powder on her, which she used to treat her face and slightly improve her appearance. Knowing that the little rascal had intended to play tricks on her, she gritted her teeth in anger and decided to return to the main hall to inform the supervisor and punish that mischievous boy.
However, halfway through the small courtyard, she encountered a tall and thin Father-in-law, presumably the Old Steward of this Brothel. He was trembling with rage, his white beard blowing in the wind as he muttered curses under his breath: “What a blind little rascal! How dare he offend an official! Just wait until I report this to my master; he’ll get a good beating!”
As the saying goes, family shame should not be aired in public. Although this Father-in-law was a polite man, upon seeing Xu Zhen ’s imposing presence as an outsider official, he dared not act recklessly. He bowed respectfully but did not say much more and lowered his head to continue on his way to report.
Xu Zhen, however, overheard his murmurs clearly and stopped him. With a pained expression, she said, “Father-in-law, please don’t be anxious. I am the unfortunate victim here; may I ask where that young man is?”
The Father-in-law was startled; his expression changed dramatically as his mouth twitched and the age spots on his cheeks nearly shook off. He hurriedly pleaded for that little rascal: “My lord, please do not be angry. That boy is mischievous by nature but has a good heart. If you inform my master and give him a beating, it will be enough; if you make it public, he will suffer greatly!”
Xu Zhen had never intended to punish that boy severely; she found him quite amusing and merely wanted to get acquainted with him. Hearing the Father-in-law’s plea for leniency, she waved her hand and said: “Father-in-law, please rest assured. I am not one to bully others; I simply find that young man’s cleverness charming and wish to meet him. I would never harm his livelihood.”
Upon hearing this from Xu Zhen, the Father-in-law felt somewhat reassured but still uneasy. However, with the victim right in front of him, he had no choice but to lead Xu Zhen toward the back courtyard's firewood room while chattering about that boy's good qualities to avoid truly provoking this official.
Xu Zhen responded sincerely as they arrived at the firewood room. The Father-in-law clasped his hands in greeting: “My lord is kind-hearted; that boy is mischievous but can be corrected with a few words or light punishment. Please enter the firewood room while I go prepare some tea for you.”
As he spoke and turned to leave, Xu Zhen suddenly grabbed his wrist and chuckled: “You are indeed courteous; however, please enter the firewood room first!”
Before he could respond, Xu Zhen twisted his arm behind his back without waiting for any argument and kicked him in the rear. The old man stumbled forward and crashed into the firewood room door. With a loud crash, a wooden basin tipped over, spilling foul-smelling foot-washing water everywhere!
The Father-in-law, caught off guard, suddenly seemed like a different person; he straightened up and sidestepped just in time to avoid getting drenched by the dirty water. Just as he steadied himself, Xu Zhen charged in from outside again and grabbed his shoulder bone. The Father-in-law, reacting quickly, attempted to strike up at Xu Zhen ’s chin with an upward palm strike. However, Xu Zhen tilted her head aside to evade it while using her left hand to grab hold of the Father-in-law’s beard!
“Indeed it’s you! You thought you could trick your young master again!” Xu Zhen sneered. From their first encounter with this old man, she had noticed the red mole on his hand; it had all been mere pretense until now. With a firm tug on his beard, she unexpectedly pulled off not just his beard but also part of his disguise!
The dough skin was made of an unknown material, thin as a cicada's wing, truly remarkable. Such a wonder existed during the Tang Dynasty, and it left me in awe of our magnificent Huaxia!
What shocked Xu Zhen even more was that when the dough skin was pulled away, the person's true face was revealed, which was not that of a young boy but rather a perfect mirror image of Xu Zhen herself, resembling a long-lost twin brother! It seemed that the young boy's appearance was merely a disguise made from the dough skin!
In her astonishment, Xu Zhen was caught off guard, and the young boy seized the opportunity. He drove a knee into her groin, causing her to let go. The boy then attempted to dash out of the woodshed, but how could Xu Zhen allow him to succeed? Gritting her teeth against the pain, she lunged forward to grab his waistband but fell just short, instead yanking down his short trousers, revealing two long, snow-white legs!
The boy, flustered and blushing, turned around and kicked at Xu Zhen's face. She stumbled sideways but managed to grab his ankle and pulled hard, bringing him crashing down to the ground and pinning him beneath her!
In the chaos, Xu Zhen could only press her hands against his chest, only to discover that his chest was soft and feminine. However, seeing his shallow Adam's apple made it difficult to discern whether he was male or female!
The boy's face turned crimson with embarrassment from Xu Zhen's boldness. He cursed her for being shameless and lashed out by twisting her wrists. The two of them rolled together in a chaotic struggle without any rules!
Their limbs intertwined like spiders in a ball or snakes coiling around each other. When they finally paused, they realized they were entangled with no space between them. The boy seemed truly feminine; his face flushed with shame as he prepared to scream. Xu Zhen, feeling cornered and ignited by competitive spirit, saw him about to shout and quickly pressed her mouth against his, effectively silencing him!
Their eyes locked together as if they were kissing their own reflections in a mirror—an extraordinarily bizarre scene reminiscent of the true Monkey King encountering the six-eared macaque, making it hard to distinguish reality from illusion!
Xu Zhenxin found himself momentarily stunned. The person beneath him took advantage of Xu Zhen's distraction and headbutted her, leaving her dazed and unguarded. With her grip loosening, the impostor slipped away like a snake and kicked Xu Zhenxin in the stomach before delivering another kick that knocked Xu Zhen unconscious!
