"By the way, don't tell anyone about this!"
After hanging up the phone, Su Jin'er sat dejectedly on the bed. Could it really be someone close to her who was the Killer? Who could it be?
Although she felt very sad, thinking about the Killer's brutal methods made her feel nauseous.
She stepped out of the room and leaned against Chu Feifan's door to listen. Hearing no sounds, she cautiously approached Zuo Yi's door and gently opened it.
This was her first time entering Zuo Yi's room. It was very clean, and even the bed was neatly made, unlike other boys' rooms that looked like pigsties. There was also a faint fragrance in the air, though she couldn't quite identify what it was; it had a somewhat strange scent.
As she looked around Zuo Yi's room, everything seemed to be arranged in an orderly manner, so she didn't dare to touch anything. Her heart raced as she wondered why Captain Xing wanted her to do such things! It made her feel very uneasy.
After circling the room, almost crawling on the floor to search, she noticed how tidy everything was and decided not to look for hair on the comb, knowing he wouldn't allow any of his hair to remain there. Just when she was about to give up, she suddenly spotted a hair at the edge of the bedside, swaying slightly and stuck to the sheets. She joyfully picked it up and carefully wrapped it in a tissue she had prepared earlier, writing "Left" on it.
Next was Chu Feifan. She wondered if he was awake yet. Quietly leaving Zuo Yi's room, she entered her own room. Just as she was closing the door, she heard Chu Feifan's voice behind her.
"Where did you just go?"
The sudden voice made Su Jin'er freeze instantly. She raised an eyebrow and stiffly turned around with a smile, saying, "I just went out for a bit. You're awake!"
Chu Feifan was brushing his teeth with a mouthful of toothpaste bubbles and mumbled indistinctly, "Yeah! I saw you weren't in the bedroom and thought you were in the bathroom!"
"Hehe!" Su Jin'er laughed awkwardly. "Alright, go finish brushing your teeth!"
Watching Chu Feifan leave, Su Jin'er let out a sigh of relief. She finally understood what it meant to feel guilty; she touched her forehead and realized she was sweating. It seemed she wasn't suited for this kind of thing.
However, she still carefully placed that hair away.
Now it was time for Chu Feifan. This time, she couldn't sneak around; she needed to ask him directly for a strand of his hair.
She walked into the bathroom with her hands behind her back, looking at Chu Feifan, who was brushing his teeth, moving from left to right and then from right to left.
Suddenly, she exclaimed, startling Chu Feifan, who was brushing his teeth.
"What are you doing? You're acting so strange today!"
"Don't move, you've actually got a white hair! Don't move, let me pull it out for you." Su Jin'er pressed down on his shoulder, forcing him to bend over, and then she pulled out one of his hairs with force.
Chu Feifan winced in pain and squinted one eye, asking, "Where is it? Let me see?"
Su Jin'er frowned and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I was mistaken. It's a black hair."
She tightly pinched the hair, afraid it would fall off if she wasn't careful.
"Are you messing with me?" Chu Feifan glared at her and then turned back to continue brushing his teeth. In truth, he was quite happy because Su Jin'er was joking with him.
"I'm really sorry! You keep washing up; I'll go prepare breakfast."
Watching him turn away, Su Jin'er quickly picked up the hair with a tissue and stuffed it into her pocket, feeling guilty as she stuck out her tongue. This was much better than that.
Was it just the two of them? But did he count?
Thinking of Zhuang Lingtian, who had become sad after losing his father, her heart tightened. That day on stage, he looked so sorrowful and helpless that it made her heart ache.
However, he hadn't appeared by her side for a long time now, so that shouldn't count anymore!
Just as she was about to go out to buy breakfast, Chu Feifan suddenly came out and said, "Don't go buy anything; let's go together later and bring something for Zuo Yi too."
"Okay!" Su Jin'er replied absentmindedly, then returned to her room and collapsed onto her bed, her thoughts in disarray.
Suddenly, she remembered that she was still wearing her pajamas, and she had just told Chu Feifan that she had gone out. How could she go out in her pajamas? But why didn't he call her out on it?
She rubbed her forehead, her suspicions growing stronger, even doubting Chu Feifan now! This was not a good sign! She could only hope that Captain Xing would find some clues about the Killer.
As she thought, she changed her clothes.
Knock, knock.
"Jin'er, are you ready?"
"Yes, I'll be ready soon. Just wait a moment." She looked outside; the sky was a dull gray-white. It seemed like it would be a cloudy day! However, the air felt stuffy, so it might rain!
After getting dressed, she opened the door and saw Chu Feifan leaning against the doorframe. For a moment, she thought he looked like an angel.
"Do you have any color other than white?" Chu Feifan frowned as he looked at her all in white.
"Aren't you the same? So far, what other colors do you have besides your white shirt?"
"I'm different from you." Chu Feifan's face flushed red and pale; it was just that she looked great in white, making his feelings even harder to resist.
In the hospital, Zuo Yi was still asleep. Due to excessive blood loss and having stayed up too late last night, he had a slight fever today. When they arrived, the nurse was giving him an IV. Surprisingly, Captain Xing and Jiang Jie were sitting in the ward while Zuo Yi continued to sleep.
"What happened?" Chu Feifan asked worriedly.
"Yesterday his wound reopened and he has a slight fever, but it's not serious. You all need to be careful."
Zuo Yi furrowed his brows tightly, seemingly lost in a dream, with sweat dripping down his forehead.
"It seems like he's dreaming. Why don't we wake him up?" Su Jin'er said as she wiped the sweat from his forehead with a tissue.
"Okay!" Chu Feifan and Su Jin'er shook him and called out, finally managing to wake him up.
"Did you have a nightmare?"
Su Jin'er asked with concern.
Zuo Yi wiped the sweat from his forehead and replied, "Yeah, I'm fine."
He seemed still trapped in the nightmare, his face pale and breathing rapid.
"I need to go to the bathroom."
"I'll go with you."
Chu Feifan supported Zuo Yi as they walked toward the door.
Watching them leave, Captain Xing asked, "Have you taken care of everything?"
"Yes." Then she took out the two pieces of hair wrapped in tissue and handed them to him.
"Thank you for your hard work."
"What clues have you found? Is the Killer really someone close to me?"
"Well, we can't be sure yet; we'll have to wait for the test results to know."
"Then why are you here so early?"
"Oh! Last night we discovered..."
Captain Xing's words were interrupted as Chu Feifan entered, supporting Zuo Yi.
Su Jin'er waited for Captain Xing to continue, but seeing his expression, it seemed he had no intention of elaborating. A sense of unease began to creep into her heart. Could it be that the Killer was truly between the two of them?
It couldn't be; it absolutely couldn't!
She looked at Captain Xing, disbelief written all over her face.
"I have other matters to attend to; I'll be leaving now. Please take good care of him here." With that, Captain Xing stood up and left.
Su Jin'er felt even more anxious. She had never felt this way before. Since meeting Captain Xing, she had never seen him so serious. So who could the Killer be?
She watched as Chu Feifan tucked Zuo Yi in with a blanket. It couldn't be; Zuo Yi had been stabbed by the Killer, and Chu Feifan had also been injured before. They definitely weren't the Killer; Captain Xing must have made a mistake—there was no other explanation.
"Jin'er, what's wrong? You look so distracted," Chu Feifan said as he came over and took Su Jin'er's hand. "Your hand is so cold; are you feeling unwell?"
He reached out to check her forehead, but she dodged away, leaving Chu Feifan's hand awkwardly suspended in the air.
"I'm fine; I might just be a little chilly. A bit of rest will do me good."
Chu Feifan withdrew his hand and smiled awkwardly. "If you're sick, don't push yourself too hard. We're in a hospital after all; let the doctor take a look at you."
"I said it's nothing," Su Jin'er shouted.
Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi stared at her in shock; this was the first time she had gotten so angry!
Before they could say anything, Su Jin'er rushed out of the hospital room. Chu Feifan wanted to follow, but she told him not to come.
She dashed out of the hospital room, took the stairs down to the first floor, and then left the hospital. She didn't understand why she was so angry; her heart was in turmoil. One by one, her friends were dying, and the reason for their deaths was all because of her. No one could understand that feeling, and now that twisted killer might be her two closest friends. How could she believe it? How could she accept it? Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi were friends who had gone through life and death with her.
But why? Why was all of this happening?
She ran out of the school and into an open space behind it. Tears blurred her vision, and she didn't see the stones underfoot, tripping and falling to the ground.
She didn't get up; she just sat there and cried.
She didn't know how long she cried. Eventually, exhausted from crying, she sat on the ground blankly looking around. Flowers bloomed and withered, people experienced joy and sorrow. Not long ago, she had lamented that if a person lost their joys and sorrows, they would no longer be human. But at this moment, she wished she had no joys or sorrows, no grief or happiness. The pain in her heart felt like it would kill her; if she was going to die anyway, it would be better to just die for real.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. Terrified, she stood up. Behind her, a Black Shadow reached out and struck heavily at her neck. A sharp pain shot through her, and then everything went black.
The person behind her caught her. What kind of face was that! The head looked like a barren wasteland with no grass growing, and the face resembled a landscape scarred by countless battles—every inch of skin on the head was damaged beyond recognition.
