"Hey! The exam is next week. How's your review going?" Chu Feifan said, looking at Zuo Yi's sad figure.
"Review?" Zuo Yi turned around, a hint of amusement in his eyes as he replied, "How's your review going?"
"Uh!" He was momentarily speechless. Although the counselor had mentioned the upcoming exam, that damn Killer had been relentless, committing crimes without pause. They probably hadn't studied properly at all! And what about Jin'er? She's still in custody; how is she going to handle the exam next week?
"I wonder how Jin'er will manage the exam next week," Chu Feifan sighed. "How could she have ended up in custody?"
"Didn't she tell you?" Zuo Yi asked, puzzled.
Chu Feifan shook his head.
He just hoped the Killer wouldn't kill again. With each murder, Su Jin'er's guilt would only grow. Would she eventually confess that she was the real Killer? In truth, she was the one who had suffered the most! But now, her classmates treated her like a Plague. Thankfully, she was at the police station and unaware of what was happening at school; otherwise, what would they do?
"Hey! Zuo Yi, why are we staying in the dorms? Why not go home?"
"Because someone leaked our address, so I think that place is probably surrounded by people now!"
Chu Feifan was confused; he didn't think he had that much charm! He hadn't seen many girls pursuing him before; why were they all coming now?
"Heh, you're puzzled, right? That's because you used to have Su Jin'er by your side! They all knew they couldn't compete with her, so they didn't dare pursue you. But now that they know Su Jin'er is in trouble, everyone wants to avoid her. Naturally, they assume you're the same, and that's how we ended up with this situation."
Chu Feifan felt overwhelmed; he really couldn't understand what those girls were thinking.
"Hey! Are you my friend? Why do you look so gleeful about this? I bet you're not doing any better! Listen to what those girls are shouting below."
As soon as Zuo Yi heard this, he frowned immediately.
"Alright!"
"In a few hours, it will be dark. I want to leave here before it gets dark and go back home. It's so annoying."
Zuo Yi spread his hands in agreement.
"Hey! Zhou Nian seems to have disappeared for a long time!"
"I think he should be in the library now! He is such a good student. Even with everything that happened in our dorm, it seems like he has nothing to do with it. His biggest wish is to become a good doctor who can save lives, so he studies hard to achieve that dream."
"Isn't it a good thing to study well?"
Chu Feifan glanced at Zhou Nian's neatly made bed. After they went out, only Zhou Nian was left in the dorm. They had invited him to join them, but he declined. Zhou Nian is a very honest person, looks quite nice with his fair complexion, and has a good personality. So the three of them get along well, but since Zhou Nian isn't very talkative, he doesn't have many friends.
The reason he is determined to become a doctor is that his father passed away from cancer when he was very young. This motivated him to study medicine and research cancer to help more cancer patients.
However, ideals are beautiful, but reality is always so cruel.
At ten o'clock in the evening.
Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi quietly went downstairs and walked toward the school gate. Everyone knew there was a murderer on campus, so no one came out at night, especially not to the small grove. Thus, the medical school at night seemed truly like a deserted "ghost academy."
The black wind rustled through the dark leaves, and the sky was pitch black without a single star; even the moon seemed to have hidden away for sleep.
It might rain today.
The oppressive wind blew a chilly sensation against the two of them. Even though they were two big guys walking through such a quiet campus, they couldn't help but feel uneasy inside.
With the wind blowing, they shivered even more.
The two of them unconsciously quickened their pace, hoping to leave this eerie place as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a White Shadow appeared ahead.
Both of them instinctively stopped in their tracks.
"Who would be here at this hour?"
"I don't know, but it definitely isn't a ghost. Let's go check it out."
They tried to tread lightly, feeling a chill run down their spines. However, the unknown was far more terrifying than knowing what it was; at least that would prepare them mentally.
Chu Feifan hoped that the figure was Killer, so he wouldn't have to worry about anyone else being killed. However, that was just a wishful thought, as Killer had always been so stealthy; it was unlikely he would foolishly appear in white clothing in a campus where anyone could show up at any moment.
As they slowly approached, they realized that the person was actually their roommate, Zhou Nian.
"Zhou Nian, what are you doing here?"
The sudden voice startled the white figure. He turned around and saw Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi, revealing a panicked expression. However, he quickly regained his composure and said, "It's nothing. I just came back from the library and stopped here for a moment."
At that moment, Chu Feifan noticed there was another person behind him, but because they were wearing black clothing, it was hard to see clearly.
"Who's behind you—"
The figure trembled slightly and then turned to run away.
Zuo Yi started to chase after them but was stopped by Zhou Nian.
He awkwardly said, "Don't chase after her; she's just a little girl who likes me but is too shy to say anything. Today she finally mustered up the courage but ended up running into you guys."
"Ah..."
Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi were momentarily stunned; it turned out their sudden appearance had ruined a good situation!
"Um, I'm really sorry! We didn't see her earlier because she was wearing black."
"It's fine, I didn't know how to reject her either!"
"Reject? Why?"
Zhou Nian awkwardly chuckled a couple of times and said, "Right now, I just want to focus on my studies. Dating would only waste my time, and women can be quite troublesome. By the way, are you guys going out to stay somewhere?"
"Yeah, with so many girls coming over every day, it's exhausting."
"Alright then, you should head back! I need to leave too; I have classes tomorrow!"
After saying that, he left as if he were escaping for his life, as if Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi were some kind of plague!
"Hehe, it seems even our roommate doesn't welcome us," Zuo Yi said with a smile.
"Forget it, let's go!"
Once they exited the campus, their hearts finally calmed down. They had always thought of the campus as a pure land, but unexpectedly, even here could harbor such a serial killer. So where in this world could truly be a safe haven?
After pondering for a while, Chu Feifan suddenly said, "Don't you think that figure just now looked familiar?"
"Are you talking about that girl? She did seem somewhat familiar. Who do you think she is?"
"It's Qin Yu."
"Impossible! Qin Yu is taller than her!"
"I don't know, it just feels strange. But what Zhou Nian said earlier makes me even more curious."
"What did he say?"
"He said women are troublesome. Didn't he have a girlfriend before? How does he know that women are troublesome?"
"Right! Why didn't I think of that? You don't suspect Zhou Nian is Killer, do you?"
"I don't know, it just feels odd. Maybe I'm overthinking it!"
The next day, when they woke up, they found it was pouring rain outside. It seemed like it had been raining all night, and the sky was dark and heavy, as if it could collapse at any moment.
"It's raining outside. Are we still going to school?" Zuo Yi asked while brushing his teeth, with white toothpaste foam at the corners of his mouth.
"Forget it, I can read at home too."
He began to worry about Su Jin'er's situation. He heard that when it rains, the detention center becomes very humid. Would she get sick? Her health had always been poor; what would happen if she fell ill? Looking out the window, his brows were tightly furrowed.
The wound started to itch again, but he couldn't scratch it. The piercing itch was driving him crazy. The doctor had said that when new tissue forms, the wound would itch, but he mustn't scratch it; otherwise, recovery would be difficult.
"Are you worried about Jin'er?"
"Yeah."
"How about I go see her?"
Chu Feifan thought for a moment and said, "That could work, but I'm afraid she won't see you because she said no one should visit her when she left."
"But she needs to study! I can bring her some books! She must be really bored in there, and she's not a criminal; reading should be fine!"
Chu Feifan thought for a moment and said, "Alright, you go ahead! But it's raining heavily right now! Wait until it lightens up a bit before you go!"
"Okay, then I'll go buy breakfast. You can read for a while! Also, here’s your medicine from the doctor. If your wound itches, just apply some."
"Why didn't you say so earlier? I've been sweating so much already."
He snatched the medicine from his hand and started applying it.
The rain was pouring down heavily, as if the sky were about to collapse. Water on the ground gathered into small rivers, winding and flowing.
The street was empty, with only a few people hurriedly passing by under umbrellas, their figures quickly disappearing into the downpour.
Zuo Yi hurriedly bought breakfast on the street before returning to his place.
Meanwhile, Su Jin'er was sitting on the bed in the detention center, watching the rain that had been falling all night outside the window. Recently, she had been unable to sleep, suffering from insomnia night after night, which was very painful for her.
Exams were coming up next week; did she really have to hide here forever? She admitted that she was scared, which was why she came here. She wasn't afraid that the Killer would kill her; she was afraid of the innocent people who might die because of her. If hiding could make the Killer stop, then she would hide forever.
