Su Jin'er smiled at her, knowing that this nurse was the one taking care of Chu Feifan. But why did she have such hostility towards her? However, what caught her attention was the small nurse from earlier; she seemed very scared, hiding in the corner and trembling, her face pale despite her efforts to conceal it.
Captain Xing thought for a moment and said, "Alright then, there's nothing else. You all go ahead and get busy!" After saying this, he shook hands with the director.
At this point, it was already half past eleven, and Chu Feifan was about to eat.
"Captain Xing, where are you all going next?"
"Let's go eat! Everyone must be hungry! They came over without having breakfast this morning; by now, they should be starving. What about you?"
"I'm going to get some food with Zuo Yi to accompany Chu Feifan."
"Wow! How thoughtful! I'm so envious!" Jiang Jie teased.
Su Jin'er smiled shyly. She felt not only love for Chu Feifan but also gratitude, and more than that, guilt. Chu Feifan had always been by her side, yet she seemed oblivious to it. Officially, she was his girlfriend, but she hadn't truly acted like one; she even allowed other boys to pursue her. No matter how she looked at it, she wasn't a qualified girlfriend.
Captain Xing patted her shoulder and then left the hospital with Jiang Jie and the others. After taking a few steps out, he turned back and said, "There are still many things to investigate in the afternoon, so if you want to participate, come early!"
Su Jin'er looked at Captain Xing in surprise and nodded vigorously. She hoped to catch Killer herself. However, so far, Wang Fan's other arm and two legs had not appeared yet, which made her worry about when they might suddenly show up.
After Captain Xing left, Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi went to the cafeteria. This time they returned to the same place as last night because the uncle there seemed very kind.
"What do you want to eat?" Zuo Yi asked while looking at the menu above.
"Anything is fine." The cafeteria during the day was busier than at night, but most of the people were patients in hospital gowns; they were not students from a school but residents from nearby.
"I think this hospital would struggle to survive if it solely relied on treating illnesses!" Su Jin'er sighed.
"Yeah! So the main focus is research. I'm curious about what they're studying; I heard that only a few people know about their research topics," Zuo Yi said as he took his meal.
"I don't care what they're researching as long as it doesn't harm us."
Zuo Yi opened his mouth to say something but swallowed it back. He was right; they could only protect themselves and a small number of people around them. They were not gods and could not save everyone.
After preparing the meal, the two headed upstairs. On the way, they encountered the nurse who was taking care of Chu Feifan. She shot a fierce glare at Su Jin'er once again.
"Strange, what did I do to her? Why does she keep glaring at me? If looks could kill, I would have died countless times by now," Su Jin'er said sarcastically.
"Do you want to know why? I can tell you."
Su Jin'er tilted her head and looked at him.
"Last night when you fainted, Feifan went crazy and jumped off the bed, enduring the pain to carry you back. Then he ran out to call for a doctor. His wound tore open again, and it was worse than before. Here’s a secret! That nurse really likes Feifan!"
After Zuo Yi finished speaking, he smiled mysteriously.
Upon hearing this, Su Jin'er took a deep breath. Zuo Yi could clearly see the anger in her eyes, even though she was trying hard to hide it.
Zuo Yi shrugged and said, "I let it slip, but I just want you to know that Feifan really likes you, so please cherish that."
In truth, as he said this, his heart was bleeding; he liked her very much too!
The two walked back to the hospital bed in silence. Chu Feifan was boredly playing with a flower. When he saw them come in, his face lit up with surprise.
"You’re back? How did it go? Did you find any useful clues?"
"Yes! But it seems only Captain Xing knows. He seems to have quite a few leads," Zuo Yi replied while Su Jin'er glared at him fiercely.
Chu Feifan shrank his neck and looked innocently at Zuo Yi. Zuo Yi shrugged and quietly sat down to eat.
"Jin'er... heh heh, why do you have that expression?" Chu Feifan asked with a flattering look at Su Jin'er.
Suddenly, tears streamed down Su Jin'er's face: "Are you an idiot or a fool? I just fainted! Was it necessary for you to be so worried? You even tore your own wound! Are you stupid?"
She squatted down and began to cry.
Seeing her like this, Chu Feifan also panicked and hurriedly tried to get off the bed, but was stopped by Su Jin'er, who hugged him and cried.
"Why are you so worried and agitated about my matters? What am I supposed to do with you acting like this?"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Chu Feifan kept saying.
Then, his apologies were sealed behind his lips as Su Jin'er unexpectedly kissed him. He widened his eyes in disbelief, and then his gaze gradually softened. Just as he was about to enjoy the moment, Su Jin'er pulled away from his lips.
"Ah! It's over."
Su Jin'er's face instantly turned red. Chu Feifan pulled her into his arms and said, "No matter what danger you encounter, I will protect you, even if it costs me my life."
Zuo Yi turned to look out the window. He had never done anything wrong to anyone, but in this lifetime, the person he felt most sorry for was Linyuan. Until her death, she would never know that she had actually been deceived. A tear slid down the corner of Zuo Yi's eye as he looked at the sky and softly said, "Xiaoyuan, I love you."
After a while, Su Jin'er propped herself up and said, "Tonight, I'll stay here with Zuo Yi to keep you company. There's no point in going back, and I can't sleep anyway."
Chu Feifan nodded in agreement.
The hospital was actually quieter than other places; after all, there were fewer people here compared to the city hospitals where patients came in at all hours of the night, making it impossible to have peace.
In the afternoon, Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi went to find Captain Xing and then went to investigate a case together. However, this time they didn't make much progress. Later on, Gaya Ze called to say that the Autopsy Report was out, so they hurried back to the police station.
Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi returned to the ward and happened to see a nurse taking Chu Feifan's temperature. Although Chu Feifan's hand could move on its own, she insisted on doing it herself, which made Chu Feifan quite embarrassed.
After the nurse left, Zuo Yi said, "Did she take advantage of you again? What kind of nurse is that? You should tell the director to fire her."
"Who do you think you are? She's a nurse; it's her responsibility to take care of patients. The director won't listen to you!" Su Jin'er said without holding back.
By this time, it was already evening. After saying goodbye to Captain Xing, the two returned home briefly to bring their textbooks to school, as the exam was approaching and they couldn't afford to fall behind in their studies.
The three of them read quietly, not speaking to each other, until it was completely dark outside. They went to get dinner, and after eating, they played cards for a while before going to bed. Fortunately, the hospital room had two beds and a couch-like bed.
In the middle of the night, Su Jin'er heard a strange sound. Groggily opening her eyes, she realized it sounded like someone dragging something. The noise wasn't loud, but it was clear enough to reach her ears.
Who is dragging something at this hour?
She rubbed her eyes and got out of bed, opening the patient room door. As soon as she opened it, she was startled by the sight before her: there was a distinct bloodstain on the floor at the entrance of the room.
Is it happening again?
Holding her breath, she followed the bloodstain forward. It extended all the way to the bathroom. The bright red blood looked even more eerie under the white light. She closed her eyes for a moment and pushed open the bathroom door.
In an instant, she stood frozen at the doorway, fear overwhelming her. She struggled to breathe, but only a small amount of air entered her lungs; she felt like she was suffocating. Her legs went weak, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Tears streamed down her face.
Before her lay a corpse of a woman, her head facing outward with wide-open eyes staring fiercely at Su Jin'er. There was a thin cut on her neck, and blood had stained her entire body red. Even more horrifying was that a pale leg was lodged in her mouth.
She gasped for air as the smell of blood mixed with the stench of the bathroom filled her nostrils.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded behind her. Terrified, she turned around and saw a White Shadow flash past. She stood up and chased after it but saw that the white figure disappeared around the corner of the stairs.
Should she chase or not?
Every time that white shadow appeared, something bad happened. At that moment, she hesitated, unsure whether to pursue or not.
She admitted that after everything that had happened, she had become even more timid. With the White Shadow gone, she slumped down against the wall, tears continuing to fall.
Suddenly, she noticed a piece of paper on the floor. She crawled over and picked it up. It had a line typed on it: "Don't be afraid; the game has just begun. Chu Feifan is lucky to be alive, but remember this: you are mine; no one can disrespect you."
The words made Su Jin'er tremble even more.
"Jin'er, why are you sitting on the ground?"
Zuo Yi, who needed to use the restroom, got up and found that Su Jin'er was missing. He quickly came out to look for her, only to discover that she was sitting on the floor at the restroom door.
"Another one is dead."
She said with vacant eyes.
"Where?"
"There's so much blood on the ground, can't you see it?"
Zuo Yi looked suspiciously at the clean floor and saw no traces of blood.
"I don't see anything!"
