Zhuang Lingtian's father was in a car accident; how serious was it?
She unexpectedly began to worry about him.
Looking up, her eyes turned to the side of the stage where Chu Feifan stood quietly, his gaze piercing through the crowd as he silently watched Su Jin'er.
Su Jin'er smiled at him, and then she noticed Zhuang Lingtian standing behind Chu Feifan. He stood quietly beside the stage, enveloped in sadness, his eyes unfocused as he stared in Su Jin'er's direction. She couldn't tell if he was looking at her.
Chu Feifan noticed her gaze and slowly turned to look back. Su Jin'er saw his brow slightly furrowed before he turned and walked toward the backstage.
Su Jin'er felt a moment of panic.
"Jin'er, what's wrong?" Jiang Jie asked curiously as she noticed Su Jin'er staring blankly at one spot.
Su Jin'er snapped back to reality and realized that both Chu Feifan and Zhuang Lingtian had already left.
She awkwardly smiled and said, "It's nothing!"
Just as she sat down, that unsettling gaze returned.
She frowned. "It's happening again."
"Who?"
"The person watching me from behind."
Jiang Jie turned around to look but didn't spot anyone suspicious.
"I want to leave here." After saying that, she stood up and walked away without waiting for Jiang Jie to respond; that gaze made her really uncomfortable.
"Wait for me!"
Once outside the hall, her agitated heart gradually calmed down. Taking a deep breath and looking at the blue sky, she smiled lightly; the air outside was indeed much better.
Jiang Jie also came out from inside. "Why did you run so fast?"
"It was too stuffy inside, and that person's gaze made me particularly uncomfortable, so I just hurried out."
"Hey! Where's the captain?" Jiang Jie looked around.
"Well, I didn't see him when I came out."
At that moment, Zhuang Lingtian walked over from behind with a guitar on his back. He glanced at Su Jin'er, his eyes filled with sadness, making her feel as if she was about to be overwhelmed by his sorrow.
Zhuang Lingtian only looked at her for a moment before trying to walk past her.
"Wait a second."
Su Jin'er suddenly called out to him, but as soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted it. What was she going to say to him?
"Is there something?" Zhuang Lingtian turned back, still looking at her with those sorrowful eyes.
"Um, about your father..."
"I don't need your pity!"
After saying that, he turned and walked away, giving her no chance to respond.
Su Jin'er gasped.
"Does he really have to be so temperamental?" Jiang Jie said, glaring at his back.
"Forget it, he's really upset about losing his father."
"By the way, you mentioned someone was watching you inside. Could it be the same person?"
"I'm not sure if it's the same person, but that gaze was just too..." She struggled to find the right words to describe it.
"I'll call Captain Xing and see where they are."
Su Jin'er leaned against a nearby pillar, playing with her hair, but her eyes were focused on everyone walking out of the hall.
Since the competition was still ongoing, not many people were coming out, but quite a few were rushing in. They were probably students who had things to attend to and arrived late!
At that moment, a boy walking from behind caught her attention. He was wearing a yellow and green checkered shirt and was slowly making his way over while occasionally glancing at Su Jin'er.
Jiang Jie also noticed the boy. After hanging up the phone, she walked over to Su Jin'er and said, "Let's go! They're waiting for us over there!"
In fact, when she called earlier, Captain Xing didn't answer at all.
Su Jin'er nodded and then walked into the small grove with her.
The strange boy indeed followed them in. In fact, Su Jin'er was reluctant to enter the grove because the boy kept his hands behind his back and lowered his head, making it impossible to see his face. She was afraid he might suddenly attack her once they were inside, but Jiang Jie seemed quite confident.
As soon as they entered the grove, Su Jin'er separated from Jiang Jie, going left while Jiang Jie went right. They guessed that the boy would definitely follow Su Jin'er, allowing Jiang Jie to subdue him from behind.
Sure enough, the boy followed Su Jin'er. Jiang Jie carefully circled around to his back, and when she saw what he was holding, she was greatly surprised.
The boy rushed towards Su Jin'er, then suddenly knelt on one knee, raising the flower in his hand and saying passionately, "Hello, my name is Li Ji. Please go out with me."
Su Jin'er was startled and instinctively stepped back. However, upon seeing the flower in his hand, she sighed in relief. At that moment, she finally got a good look at his face—round and with eyes that were barely visible, resembling beans in size. His face was covered with acne and scars, which made her feel a wave of disgust.
Jiang Jie quickly approached them. Just as she was about to reach their side, the boy suddenly stood up and pulled out a dagger from the flowers, thrusting it fiercely towards Su Jin'er. Before she could react, she was violently pushed aside, her arm scraping against the ground as blood immediately flowed out.
When she managed to lift her head despite the pain, she realized that it was Chu Feifan who had pushed her away. He was now lying on the ground with a dagger stabbed into his abdomen, bright red blood gushing out rapidly while the strange boy had already disappeared.
Tears streamed down her face as she rushed over to him and helped him lie on her lap.
"Feifan, hang in there. The ambulance will be here soon."
Chu Feifan's face was pale, but he managed a faint smile at the corner of his mouth. "I finally did something for you."
"Enough! Don't talk. You are my boyfriend; I won't allow anything to happen to you. You can't die on me! So just be quiet and conserve your strength. Where is the rescue team?" She frantically looked around. Where was Jiang Jie? Where had Jiang Jie gone?
A crowd of students had slowly gathered around them, all nervously watching but not a single one had called for an ambulance.
Su Jin'er took out her phone from her pocket and tried to dial, but her hands were shaking so much that she pressed the wrong numbers several times.
Zuo Yi suddenly squeezed through the crowd, asking, "What’s going on?"
"Zuo Yi, hurry and call an ambulance, please!" Su Jin'er's voice was choked with emotion, almost unable to speak.
At the hospital.
Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi sat quietly in the corridor.
"What exactly happened?" Zuo Yi suddenly asked.
Su Jin'er recounted everything that had happened in the lobby and what had just occurred.
"So, that guy planned this," Zuo Yi concluded.
"Yes, I think so," Su Jin'er replied.
Zuo Yi fell silent. After a moment, hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor; it was Jiang Jie.
"How is Chu Feifan?" she asked anxiously.
"He’s in surgery. Where did you go just now?" Su Jin'er questioned, a hint of anger in her tone.
"I... I went after that guy. I'm sorry," Jiang Jie said, lowering her head. It was indeed her responsibility for not protecting him.
"Forget it."
"Did you get a good look at that guy's appearance?" Zuo Yi asked.
"Yes, he has a round face, very small eyes, and a lot of acne and scars on his face. If I see him again, I will definitely recognize him," Su Jin'er replied confidently.
Then she looked at Jiang Jie and asked, "Where did Captain Xing go?"
"I don't know. He didn't answer when I called earlier."
The group fell silent, quietly waiting for Chu Feifan to come out.
About an hour later, Chu Feifan was pushed out. The doctor said that although he had undergone surgery, the vital areas were unharmed; he just needed to recover from excessive blood loss.
Su Jin'er finally felt relieved.
After confirming that Chu Feifan was really okay, Su Jin'er asked Jiang Jie, "Still no contact with Captain Xing?"
"Yes, his phone is off. Could something have happened to him?"
"Could it be a diversion?" Zuo Yi suggested.
"Uh-oh."
"Jin'er, you stay here and take care of Feifan. Officer Zhang and I will go find Captain Xing." Zuo Yi followed Jiang Jie out.
Before she knew it, Su Jin'er had fallen asleep by the bedside, and the sky gradually darkened.
When she woke up, it was completely dark outside. She rubbed her eyes and looked at Chu Feifan on the bed.
"You’re awake? Are you still tired?"
Su Jin'er was surprised to see that Chu Feifan was already awake. "When did you wake up? Why didn't you call me?"
"I saw you were really tired, so I didn’t wake you. Look, I'm fine, right?"
"Why are you so silly? Why did you save me?"
"You’re my girlfriend, of course I have to save you. Is there even a question about that?" He moved slightly, seemingly pulling at his wound, furrowing his brow for a moment before relaxing again.
"Did they catch that person? Was he the Killer?" Chu Feifan asked.
"I don't know, but I don't think he is the Killer. This person clearly wanted to kill me, but that person just wanted to torment me; he didn't seem to have any intention of killing me. So I think this person's appearance might be an accident."
"An accident? How do you figure that?"
"The Killer is very smart; he wouldn't recklessly kill me on campus. If he really wanted to kill me, he wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble to create all these incidents. He could have killed me that night when he first lured me out. But there are still many things I don’t understand. Did he really just want to scare me?"
"So what are your thoughts?"
"I don't know, it feels chaotic, like things aren't that simple."
"Alright, if you can't figure it out, then don't think about it. What about Zuo Yi?"
"Oh! He went to find Officer Zhang and Captain Xing. They haven't returned yet."
"Could something have happened to them?"
"I don't know. You must be hungry! I'll go get you some food."
"Okay, just be careful."
She nodded.
The corridor outside was very quiet, and the white light made the white walls look even paler. This reminded her of many terrifying things about hospitals; they say the Morgue is a passage to hell, and hospitals are places where ghosts often appear. Thinking of this, a sudden gust of wind blew through, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
She understood that often, fear comes from within. She didn't believe in ghosts, but still felt scared, so she couldn't help but quicken her pace.
