The lights in the Emergency Room were still on, and Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi sat anxiously on the waiting chairs in the corridor. Her body was still trembling; if she hadn't insisted on going to the small grove, none of this would have happened. It was all her fault; everything was because of her.
Tears fell down her cheeks.
"Alright, it's not your fault. You can only blame the Killer for being so cruel."
Su Jin'er shook her head. "No, it's all my fault. If I hadn't come back, if I hadn't killed... killed Hongmei, things wouldn't have escalated to this point. I am the real Killer."
"Can you calm down? We haven't figured out what happened yet. What about that head? He only had a head; how could it injure Chu Feifan? Don't you find that strange?"
Su Jin'er looked up at Zuo Yi. Everything that had just happened was too sudden for her to react. Chu Feifan had already fallen to the ground before she could think it through, and now her mind was completely occupied by the injured Chu Feifan.
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know; I just find it strange. When that head flew towards us, I didn't have time to react. By the time I did, Chu Feifan was already on the ground. I instinctively grabbed a branch nearby and swung it at it, but it felt like I hit something and got bounced back. It was a very strange feeling." Zuo Yi was still pondering everything that had just occurred; it happened so suddenly that there was no time to react, and that head moved too quickly.
Right, just a head couldn't possibly injure him. This meant that the head actually had a body—no, perhaps it had hands—they just hadn't seen them. But why? The Killer had once tried to steer this case towards supernatural events, but now, wouldn't that negate everything they had done before?
At that moment, the lights in the operating room went out, and Chu Feifan was wheeled out.
"Although the patient's wound is deep, fortunately, it didn't damage any internal organs and is not life-threatening. However, it seems like his wound has been poisoned. While it's not fatal, this poison is quite strange; it's similar to what a female classmate experienced last time. Oh, that girl was you! His poison is similar to yours," the doctor said in surprise as he looked at Su Jin'er.
Su Jin'er smiled shyly and then asked, "Can we go see him now?"
"Yes," the doctor replied before leaving.
Su Jin'er and Zuo Yi rushed to the ward where Chu Feifan lay unconscious on the bed.
"I think you should go back! It's already four in the morning. Let me take you home first! It wouldn't be good if someone found out you were out here; who knows what rumors might spread," Zuo Yi said.
"Good!"
Su Jin'er slowly wiped the sweat from Chu Feifan's forehead. He seemed to still be dreaming, his brows tightly furrowed.
On the way back while sending Su Jin'er home, neither of them spoke. The air in the car felt heavy and oppressive. Su Jin'er rolled down the window, and the black wind gently lifted her hair.
"Zuo Yi!"
"Yes!"
"I think all of this is because of me. From now on, you all should stop coming to see me and try to keep your distance. That way, you can ensure your safety. I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me."
There was an indescribable sadness in her voice that made Zuo Yi feel heartbroken.
"Why do you think it's because of you?"
"The day Hongmei died, Killer could have easily killed me, but he didn't. Do you know why?"
Zuo Yi didn't answer.
"I think Killer is torturing me!"
"Why?"
"I don't know the reason, but many times, death is also a form of relief."
Zuo Yi understood what Su Jin'er meant, but could they really stand by and watch? Or was she planning to end her own life to stop Killer from killing again?
Su Jin'er continued to gaze out the window. At that moment, her heart suddenly calmed down. Perhaps facing Killer directly was the best choice after all.
"You can't do anything foolish."
"If living alone means more people will die, then I'd rather die and let more people live."
As soon as she finished speaking, her phone immediately rang with a text message notification.
At this late hour, who would be texting her?
She opened the message, which contained only a short sentence: If you dare to commit suicide, I will kill everyone you care about, including those you love. Don't doubt my ability.
Upon reading the message, Su Jin'er gasped. This person was truly terrifying; they could even guess what she was thinking. Were they really not human?
She quickly typed a reply: What do you want?
However, her phone remained silent.
"Who sent it?"
"Killer!"
Zuo Yi frowned. "What did he say?"
Su Jin'er showed him the message.
"Call back and see."
But when she called back, a sweet voice came through: The number you dialed is not in service.
"It's a disconnected number!"
This was something she had anticipated, but the text message completely plunged her into despair. At that moment, her heart felt as if it were submerged in ice water, and her entire body turned cold. The other party knew everything about her, even being able to guess her thoughts. What a terrifying opponent this was; at this moment, she truly understood what it meant to wish for death.
When she returned to the psychiatric hospital, she merely knocked lightly on the door, which opened immediately. It seemed that Cheng Xiaoying had not slept all night.
"You’re back?" Cheng Xiaoying exclaimed with surprise. Upon seeing only the two of them, she frowned and asked, "Where’s Chu Feifan?"
Su Jin'er’s body trembled slightly before she replied, "Something happened; he can't come."
Seeing Su Jin'er’s pale face, Cheng Xiaoying didn’t dare to ask further. She glanced at Zuo Yi, who also looked unwell, and cautiously stood aside.
"I’ll head back first. Call me if you need anything."
Su Jin'er nodded and then collapsed onto the bed, pulling the blanket over her head and quietly sobbing.
Cheng Xiaoying looked at Zuo Yi, who remained silent but wore a sorrowful expression. Thinking something must have happened to Chu Feifan, she stood there frightened and didn’t dare to speak. Zuo Yi turned to leave and said to Cheng Xiaoying as he walked out, "Recently, neither Feifan nor I will be coming here. Please take good care of her."
Cheng Xiaoying didn’t know what had happened but didn’t dare to ask further after seeing their expressions. Once Zuo Yi left, she carefully closed the door and returned to her own bed, lying under the blanket while contemplating what might have occurred with Su Jin'er.
As dawn broke, Su Jin'er got up. In truth, she hadn’t slept at all; her eyes felt sore and were probably swollen.
She stared blankly out the window, trying hard to recall if she had offended anyone in nearly 20 years of life who would harbor such hatred towards her that they would resort to tormenting her in this way. She would rather they had just killed her outright.
However, after thinking for a long time, she couldn’t come up with anyone. Although she didn’t have many friends, she hadn’t wronged anyone; how could such a terrifying person exist?
Perhaps she had been thinking too long; it felt as if thousands of needles were stabbing into her brain. She rubbed her temples, but the sharp pain didn’t lessen at all.
Maybe it was due to lack of rest!
She lay down but couldn’t fall asleep no matter what. Her mind was filled with images of Chu Feifan’s back covered in torn flesh; it must have hurt terribly! What could have caused such injuries? His hands? That was impossible! Even someone with long nails couldn’t inflict such horrific wounds. Strangely enough, there were only three scratches; rather than being made by a human hand, they looked more like cat scratches. But a cat couldn’t possibly create such deep and wide gashes—so what could it be?
She thought of the white figure hidden behind the tree; it should be a woman, as she had long hair. Could it be the White-Clad Girl who had lured her out several times? But it didn't quite look like her.
Suddenly, her eyelids grew heavy. Just a moment ago, she had found it hard to fall asleep, yet now she felt an overwhelming urge to sleep.
Her consciousness seemed to slip out of her control, and she hazily lost awareness.
In this deep slumber, she did not dream at all.
When she finally woke up, it was already afternoon. The weather was gloomy, and it looked like it might rain. Despite having slept for so long, she still felt very tired.
"You're awake?" Cheng Xiaoying asked with concern.
"Yes, what time is it?"
"It's past four; you've been sleeping all day."
She propped herself up, but her head still throbbed with a dull pain.
"What's wrong? You look unwell. Are you sick?"
"I'm fine; just a bit of a headache."
Cheng Xiaoying brought over the food that had been on the bedside and said, "Eat something! You haven't eaten all day."
Su Jin'er waved her hand and replied, "Thank you, but I can't eat."
Cheng Xiaoying had no choice but to put the food down and asked, "What happened last night? Why did Zuo Yi say he won't be coming around for a while?"
Su Jin'er's body trembled uncontrollably. In truth, she was very scared—afraid of the person lurking in the corner watching her secretly. Perhaps that person was hiding in some dark corner right now, coldly laughing at her terrified expression.
“Xiaoying, I think it’s better for you to stay away from me in the future.”
Su Jin'er said weakly.
Cheng Xiaoying's expression changed, and she said with a hint of grievance, “Why? Do you hate me?”
“It’s not that. However, if thinking this way can keep you away from me, then you can believe that.”
Su Jin'er never turned to look at her. Her heart was bleeding; anyone who got close to her could become a target for the Killer. So it was better to face this alone! Perhaps this was the best outcome.
She heard Cheng Xiaoying sobbing behind her, but she didn’t turn around. Looking back would only bring disaster upon them.
She must be an ominous person!
She smiled bitterly, tears flowing into her mouth, tasting bitter!
Cheng Xiaoying returned to her bed, sitting in the corner and silently crying. She didn’t understand what she had done wrong to make Su Jin'er hate her so much.
